Preview JN109: VS Kibana! Battle for Masters Eight!!

I think that Ash will loose to Raihan here based on his dejected state in the preview.
What’s ironic is that the episode before will be Lucario training with Greninja... Greninja teaching Lucario how to job in the biggest moments.
Ash: Why’d I loose... oh. I trained Lucario with Greninja... (and he transferred his choking powers to me once against)
If this is how they are treating Greninja as teaching Lucario to loose then that is disrespectful and seems very suspect. I swear the anime hates Greninja.

Good. I was hoping this battle was before the one against Paul. It’s a chance to have Lucario struggle to master its own power-up, whatever it is, in this battle and lose.
And, God knows that is needed - Ash losing. He’s had a fairly easy road, and none of Ash’s power-ups were really challenged, especially Mega Evoltuion, mastering it like it’s nothing.

And what better way to test Ash’s determination, and right to challenge the best, than to battle Paul. Plus, if Ash was to obtain classification into the Master Eight against Raihan, and Paul beat him, that would be incredibly deflating, even if it’s a friendly.

Can't wait to see babies wrecking dragons for the third time! And it happening just a month after the previous one doesn't make it more tiring!

I hope Raihan crushes Ash

I know he won't tho because that would make the training in the Greninja episode (which comes right before this) pointless

Agree, through we are also clueless on how Paul will be involved so there's still hope...

Through If Paul's battle is an unofficial one and coincidentially is the only one Ash loses until facing Leon...I'm done.

This is the third Dragon type specialist Ash has battled in JN.

And if he battles Lance, that'll be four. And then there's Cynthia having Garchomp and Kommo-o, and Leon having Dragapult, possibly Haxorus, and of course, Charizard (not a Dragon type, but still a dragon all the same)

What rumors?

This was released a week ago with unconfirmed episode titles but if it turns out to be true Ash will lose to Raihan then go to Paul for help. The battle with Garchomp vs Dragonite is the training battle with Paul.

I don't see how any pokemon are considered babies, no more than Torracat beating Incineroar in the same region. Once pokemon evolve the writers treat them as adults. Look at how Noviern was battling Zapdos despite hatching from an egg only like 30 eps prior.

I also hope Dragonite is in this since it hasn't been in a PWC battle since Iris.

I wouldn't mind Ash losing but there's probably not much time left

It's fucking boring to see a protagonist who wins all the time

There's literally no stakes raised
Which is a cliche that the protagonists of many popular anime/manga like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Naruto like to do. And when they encounter opponents who are actually stronger than them, they gain Deus ex Machina power-ups that, true to the trope's nature, come out of nowhere and can feel incredibly forced. Pokémon relies on this trope much more rarely than many other anime, which I like.

Because he's got it so easy, and unbelievable.
I find it 100% believable, actually; the show clearly showed in the past that there is a massive difference in power between Gym Leaders and E4/Champions.
Ash is E4/Champion tier as of the end of XY, where he just barely lost to someone who defeated an Elite Four. He doesn't lose to Gym Leaders if he's not severely handicapping himself somehow, like using NFE, one who whom is newly hatched.

There's also the Leon thing; if Ash is losing half his battles like people are asking for it's completely unbelievable he'd last against Leon.

I find it 100% believable
I won't think that anything this team does is believable or feels deserved until the writers fix the 'out of focus' and development issues.
And dropping the 'tank everything until somehow pulling it off' overused tactic is mandatory too.

Though; it is so late for that, anyways.
