Probably just the result of going on so long; after a while you end up reusing story ideas.
Frankly it's surprising that I think we've only gotten one human to Pokémon transformation.

I remain optimistic about Ash catching Latias here. And since I'm definitely a bit of a dreamer, if Latias can't be caught because of Latios being here, maybe he'll end up catching both of them? I'm just saying, the only distinctions Ash has left to accomplish are officially catching a Legendary Pokemon, and a female-only species, and Latias is both at once! It'll be a big tease, I think, if Ash doesn't catch her by the end of all this.

Oh yeah, I heard a rumor on Twitter that Swellow might be showing up in this episode. Anybody got any further information on that? Oh, and does anyone else think we might get something like this happening in this episode?
