Re: Kami Trio receiving new formes in upcoming games: CoroCoro cover reveals possible

I still feel like the only one who likes the Kami Trio due to their interesting aesthetic. It's like, my favorite Legendary Pokemon Trio. Now they're possibly(not confirmed yet) going to be even more badass than they already are to me and they're still not well-received by the fandom :(.

You're not the only one. The Kamis are awesome, they really deserve more love. :< Everyone complains about them being "palette swaps with changes here and there", while ignoring that description also fits the Bird Trio and the Lake Trio. Or even [email protected], who are more palette swap then the Kamis. D8

Cheren is a Gym Leader though? Where did Serebii get that info? oAo

Re: Kami Trio receiving new formes in upcoming games: CoroCoro cover reveals possible

I have my doubts about this theory that the Kami Trio's new formes represent those beasts in Chinese legend. For one thing, the bird is a phoenix, and regardless of whether Tornadus was originally red or not, it would never have become a phoenix, and being one would be completely unrelated to its elemental association.

Here's what I had to say in another thread regarding this:
So regarding this whole debate I see of Thundurus being a tiger or dragon--I honestly don't see where people are getting tiger from.

Also, Raijin is supposed to be a god of thunder, lightning, and storms. Japanese dragons are usually water deities associated with rain fall, and given it's appearance, I'd say its a dragon. There's really nothing to suggest Thundurus as a tiger.

Tornadus becoming a bird is pretty obvious given its a wind spirit.

Now, Tornadus as a turtle/tortoise makes sense when you look at their depictions in mythology: "It personifies Water, Moon, Mother Earth, Time, Immortality, and Fertility"

If anything, any seen correlation between those four beasts are just that, a correlation. However, it seems more likely that the animals these Kami turn into are directly related to the powers they hold: a bird for a wind spirit, a dragon for a thunder spirit, and a tortoise for a fertility spirit.

Even if you think three out of four makes sense, you can't reconcile phoenix and wind bird.

The bird trio are palette swaps? Really now? That's the first time I've heard anyone say that.

I have seen many making references to the Shijin of Chinese and Japanese mythology. The thing is though that there are four spirits, one for each compass direction, and there are only three members of the Kami Trio (hence the term trio). Unless Game Freak is making a fourth member it may just be a redesign, possibly to fit that belief. I did notice an odd shape to Thundurus' right however. Could that be a fourth member? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Legendary birds were palette swaps? Thats new.

The Lake Trio were sort of Palete Swaps but at least their sprites were different unlike the Kami Trio where its the same damn pose. Atleast they are interesting to look at now.

What, you mean this thing?

Since it's outlined in red rather than some other color, my guess is that's Thundurus's tail.

Actually, his lower arms are cloaked in clouds. That's his other arm. And I say 'he' because unlike when people calling Kyurem 'he', Thundurus is actually a male.

No matter what Landorus is, he apparently has a very thin neck. Not very appealing.

I agree with Dark Deox. That looks like a cloudy arm to me.

About Tornadus... does it looks like it has three legs to anyone else? I know it's blocked by Landorus's head, but what is visible of Tornadus's lower body seems a bit confusing.

Margins are my worst enemy. I can't help with that question, but I'm happy someone has explicitly agreed with me on any of these kinds of threads.

Landorus' head... Is all I can see of it/him unless that really is a shell.

Landorus = Turtle

Only it has a beak of some sorts and no shell. That rock thing is not part of its body, otherwise it would be lined with green.

Another interesting thing to note is that the green outline extends to below Thundurus' chin, suggesting Landorus may be standing upright.

Correction: no visible shell. It might have a shell, but we can't see it.

It may also be driving a car and we can't see it. Let's not conclude it has a shell until there is more evidence toward it. Right now, a mustache-turned beak can mean a lot of things.

I did say might. I never said I was sure it had an out-of-sight shell, I just said it it was possible. I didn't 'conclude' anything.

I did say might. I never said I was sure it had an out-of-sight shell, I just said it it was possible. I didn't 'conclude' anything.

And I also said it may be driving a car. There's really no evidence toward that possibility other than the assumption that it was a turtle/tortoise. If we are going to let our prior assumptions influence the possibilities with no concrete evidence toward it, then we might as well be saying its driving a car as well. There's a lot of things that aren't visible there, and unless you have some sort of evidence that it may be obscured, then you can't go with the line "correction: no visible shell" as if it was more valid than what was said. Give me evidence to suggest one might exist first before saying that.

Besides, closer examination of the cover reveals that the green outline extends below Thundurus' chin. That suggests either really long legs, or that Tornadus may be standing up.

I presume you mean Landorus?

Is it just me, or does Landorus have a paw/hand/whatever on the rock? So... if it is standing up, would that mean its head is turned 180 degrees?

Alternate theory: it could be a lizard clinging onto the rock, with its head at 180, and the extended green outline could be its tail hanging down.
