Niantic has announced details regarding Pokémon GO's upcoming August 2022 monthly update, along with several events that will be running starting from August 1st, at 1:00pm PDT (GMT −7), through to August 31st, at 1:00pm PDT (GMT −7). Also announced are changes to how Niantic will be enforcing the player guidelines and terms of service.

Language selection
Soon, Trainers will be able to change their language settings in Pokémon GO to play in their language of choice, regardless of the language used on their device. The following languages will be available when this setting launches:
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese (Brazilian)
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Thai
  • Turkish
  • Traditional Chinese
Trainers will need to close and reopen Pokémon GO for any language changes to take effect.

New anti-cheat measures
New enforcement of player guidelines and terms of service is coming to all Niantic games, including Pokémon GO. Moving forward, Niantic will now detect and punish Pokémon GO players who infringe the guidelines and terms of service on a consistent and ongoing basis, rather than in waves as done previously. A number of accounts, who were found to be in violation of their terms of service or player guidelines during recent in-game events in Pokémon GO, have already had action taken against them.

Research Breakthrough encounters
When seven days of Field Research tasks are completed, Trainers will be able to encounter Galarian Stunfisk. Galarian Stunfisk's Shiny variant may also be encountered rarely.
