"So the father headed on home. But as he rode his horse through the woods, he got lost in a terrible thunderstorm. Suddenly, he came-up a great wrought-iron gate. The father banged upon it, pleading for entrance and shelter, or-else he would die in the storm. And then the gates slowly creeked open, though there was no-one there."

"Like the slidey doors at Kroger." I commented cheerfully.

"Slightly less ominous than I was aiming for, but I suppose-so. The father rode his horse through the gates and found himself before a gigantic castle. Once-again, the huge oak doors swung open by themselves, and he entered. Torches along the walls lit themselves as he went and led him to an expansive dining-hall. When the father entered the room, a warm, cozy fire blazed to life in the fireplace, and golden dishes appeared on the table, each laden with the most delicious food the father had ever seen.

When he was done eating, more torches lit down the hall to a luxurious bedroom. Quite weary, the father collapsed onto the large, soft bed and fell instantly into a dreamless sleep."

"Quiet you, I'm getting to the good part. The next morning, the father had breakfast in the empty dining-hall and left the castle. As he made his way to the gates, he noticed a large garden blooming with hundreds of bushes, each containing dozens of perfect red roses. 'Well,' He said to himself, 'Althought I cannot bring my other daughters the gifts they desire, I can at-least bring my Belle her rose.'"

"Oh, that'll go-over well. 'Hey guys, we're still poor as shit, but at-least I got the prettiest one her flower! Ain't that great?'"

"However, no-sooner than the father plucked a single rose from a bush, an enormous, horrible beast appeared before him, snarling ferociously." Kathrin continued, trying to sound snarly, but sounding more like she had a bad cold. "The Beast grabbed the father by the collar, lifted him into the air, and shook him. 'I have given you safety, food and warmth,' He roared, 'And this is how you pay me? Bystealing from me?'"

"But its just one rose," I protested, "And he's got, like, mullions."

"Ah yes, but the Beast was very selfish, and he insisted that he was going to kill the father for his treachery. The father begged for his life, pleading that he had three daughters with no-one in the world but he to care for them, and this gave the Beast pause."

"Yay, maybe Beasty has a heart in him after-all."

I spotted Kathrin's eyes flicker breifly towards Jericho.

"My point exactly, J. Now, the Beast put the father down and said he was allowing him to return home."

"Yay!"

"But," Kathi went-on, "The Beast led him to the stables and shied him a magnificent white horse. 'When you sit upon this steed, you will be taken home in the blink of an eye. After that, you have until sundown. If you can convince one of your daughters to return in your stead to be my prisoner, I shall let you live. If none do, you must swear to return and face your death. If the horse comes-back riderless, I will come and kill you myself.'"

"Not yay."

"Very not yay." Kathrin agreed, "But the Beast sat the father upon the horse and he instantly found himself at home. He told his daughters about the boat. While Belle was disappointed, her sisters harshly scolded their father and wailed in misery, thinking only of themselves."

"Greedy little bitches."

"Ellie!" Kathi exclaimed, surprised, "Then he told them about the castle, and the rose, and the Beast. The sisters blamed Belle for this, and berated her, calling her nasty names. The father told them this was foolish, and that he had only til sunset to arrange affairs for them before he must return to the Beast and face his punishment. It never occurred to him to try to let one if his children replace him.

However, Belle felt horrible about the state of affairs her wish for a rose had caused, and her sisters' words made it wven-worse. She looked out the window and saw the magic horse. 'I wonder,' She thought, 'If I sit upon the horse, will it take me to the Beast in my father's place?' So Velle went outside and climbed onto the horse. Thus, she was whisked-away to the Beast's castle just as the sun set."

"I heard that." I said primly, deliberately not looking at him.

"The Beast met Belle at the castle and greeted her. He was much kinder to her than he was to her father. 'You are very welcome here,' He said to her, 'And all that I have is yours. You may wander my lands freely and explore the castle as you wish. My only request is that you join me each night for supper.'"

"Well, that's nice of him."

"'However,' He continued, 'You must be my prisoner and never leave these grounds for as long as you live.'l

"Oh. Not so nice, then."

"The Beast then led Belle to the grandest, prettiest bedroom-suite in the castle, told her the time she would be expected for dinner, and left her to get used to her new lodgings. As soon as the door shut behind him, Belle flung herself upon the bed and began to weep. She missed her family terribly alrwady, and the knowledge that she would never see them again was almost too much to bear."

I bit my lip.

I gave Ellie a hug. Her real family wasn't going anywhere any time soon.

I leaned into his chest, thinking of Dawson and Andre despite myself. I didn't think I would ever stop missing them.

Kathrin quickly continued the story, obviously trying to distract me. "At the appointed time, Belle met the Beast in the dining-hall. His table-manners were absolutely atrocious. He ripped every bit of his food to shreds and made a horrible mess everywhere. Belle suffered through the dinner as best she could, eating very little and trying not to stare at the Beast. When the meal was over, the dishes disappeared," and the Beast asked Belle to marry him."

I stared at her in shock. "You're kidding."

"Nope."

"That's the most insane thing I've ever heard! You don't just kidnap a girl, jail her in your house, eat like a pig in front of her, then pipe-up with 'Hey! Wanna be my missus?'"

"I remember Jake eating like that at Thanksgiving once. He didn't propose to anyone, but yep he did that."

"Who?" Seph asked.

"Right you guys are new." I mumbled.

((just an inside joke to how much these two miss))

I giggled.

"Unsurprisingly, Belle turned him down. Things went-on like this for many months. Each day, Belle would fins a lovely new dress laid-out for her in her room. Then she would wander through the garden, or explore the castle. Every day, some new amusement would present itself. Once she found a little puppet-show, with silly marionettes that made her laugh. Another time, she found a room that was full of instruments that played by themselves as Belle danced to their tunes and sang-along."

My eyes lit-up at the instruments with no players. "That is so cool."

"But the strangest part was that Belle began to have odd dreams. Every night, she would dream of a mysterious prince. In her dreams, he stood before her, locked behind iron bars, and he would say to her, 'Oh, dear Belle, do not let your eyes deceive you. Set me free.'" Kathrin narrated, trying to lower her alto into an appropriately-seductive tone.

I giggled, and Kathi gave us both a Look, mumbling something to Seph about "If they weren't so cute....."

"So the Beast was keeping the prince prisoner?"

"That's what Belle thought, and she searched the castle for him. However, the rooms changed constantly, and she could never find the same thing twice. She did find traces of him, though. She found a locket with a picture of him inside, and, remebering that the Beast said that all he had was hers, she put it around her neck.

Another time, she found a huge portrait of him-"

"Bit egotistical of 'ol Princey, innit?"

"-But it has been slashed to ribbons by what looked like the Beast's claws."

"That's creepy."

"Each night, Belle would dream of the prince, and he would sigh and say sadly that he feared he may be a prisoner forever unless she could free him."

"Poor Prince."

"This went-on for several months, each day following the same pattern. Slowly, Belle began to realize that the Beast did not intend to harm her, and she even became quite fond of him. But she was still unhappy. Finally, one night when they were at the dinner-table, Belle began to cry."

"Well, duh. It couldn't be a very happy dining-experience with Beasty splattering food all-over the place."

((Bringing another character in within the next few posts))

"Okay, so Belle started crying. So the Beast stopped ripping his food to bits and said, 'What is wrong, dearest Belle?'-"

"'Well,'" I said, deliberately making my voice trill more than usual, "'You keep me locked in a castle with you, I'll never see my dad or bitchy sisters again, I'm dreaming about a hot piece of prince-ass I can't find, and your table-manners are disgusting. Other than that, I'm just peachy!'"

((fine by me))

"So this prince has a hot ass apparently? Don't remember that in the original texts." Seph joked.
