LT's Brainstorming Blog

I think maybe China just because of the mythological creatures that can be found there. There are a lot one could make into interesting bosses and/or regular monsters. Like, Jiangshi which is a hopping Zombie. Could work as a regular enemy. Could possibly work as a boss.

@prog rocker

A Mexico region would be fun--lore wise and cultural wise

Keep in mind this is for a fantasy story, so I'd be drawing from mythology for ideas (and real world ideas to turn into fantasy places)

@Greninjaman

China would also be a good idea, since there is a whole genre of fantastic RPG-esque stories with martial arts thrown in over there.

if I don't get any more ideas, I'll flip a coin.

About Pokemon: Hearts of Pearls (preliminary RPG-esque idea)

After flipping a coin, @Greninjaman's suggestion of a Poke-China setting won--keep in mind this idea is VERY preliminary, and may change.

Reichou, the land of crystal Beautiflies...in this world far beyond the Pokemon world we know, jewels and precious minerals are as common as rocks, and wondrous creatures rub shoulders with Pokemon. A common legend in this land says that if one gathers a thousand pearls, and makes a wish, it will surely come true.

But lately, the Journey of a Thousand Pearls has been getting harder to make, thanks to monsters running rampant. So when a girl named Liko set off on the legendary journey in hopes of finding the truth about a green crystal heart pendant she received when she came of age, many evil sects of martial arts began taken an interest in the green crystal heart--and her companion Roy wasn't going to be enough, even though his own martial arts were powerful.

Imagine Liko and Roy's surprise when they were rescued by the legendary Six Spirits!

Ruby Phoenix remembered the local seer foretelling that "The Six Spirits will become eight--a Braviary's noble heart, and a Mightyena's fist." So Liko took the title of Amethyst Braviary, and Roy took the title of Garnet Mightyena--and with six legendary bodyguards to protect them, they embark on the long quest, all while staying one step ahead of evil sects and monsters...

The Next Few Stops on the Road to Vermilion City

Tomorrow: Unnamed town (based on this real location)--when Brock tells Ash and Misty the tale "The Lucky Tea Kettle" (since the town is supposedly where it happened), Team Rocket tries (and fails) to take advantage of the story to bilk the people! (would "The Trouble with Tanookis!" or "Not Our Cup of Tea!" be a good title?)

Next Week: Feather Town (based on this real location)--home to one of Kanto's largest costume making industries--since it was historically known for indigo dye production as well as costumes, this is why the Indigo League got its name.

Then: Unnamed town (based on this real location)--the town is famous for the Rokom (my Poke-parody of Wacom) art tablet company--so the group takes a tour of the digital art museum, where the public can create their own artwork and see what others have created using Rokom products.

The Elite Eight as Minstrels Idea (rework of a very old idea inspired by Sword/Shield and The Legend of Zelda)

In the fantastic Pokeworld of Maragaid, the minstrel is higher than even the royal family. As keepers of history and legend, teachers to the children, and entertainers to the children at heart, a traveling minstrel, a group of minstrels, or even the resident minstrels in a castle, are a welcome sight to see anywhere in Maragaid. They are immediately recognizable in their colorful (and often flamboyant costumes--even when training as an apprentice, a minstrel will have their own unique costume

But what no one in Maragaid knows is that the way of the minstrel allows them to tap into an ancient magic in their song--a magic more powerful than the mightiest archsage can cast. Those minstrels that use their magical song for good are often rewarded with magical jewels--and each one's name is a clue as to what elemental of magic they can learn from it. Minstrels are often attuned to anywhere from one to three elements, but a minstrel being attuned to more than three elements is not entirely unheard of--those that can tap into all the elements are considered gifted, and these Diamond Singers are immediately welcomed into any town, city, manor, and castle.

Our story concerns a band of best friends as they journey across Maragaid, performing and using their magical song to keep the peace in the land:

Ash of Whitebury, who longs to be known as a great hero like the ones he sings about.

Misty of Riverstown, who traded a knight's armor for a minstrel's garb.

Brock of Rockshire, a Diamond Singer who is seeking out clues to the strongest song of all.

Serena of Whitebury, who trained as a minstrel in the far off city of Croquis before returning to Maragaid.

May of Albanova, who willingly gave up her noble title in her homeland to follow the way of the minstrel.

Dawn of Deuxvert, who left her homeland in hopes of surpassing her mother, a great minstrel herself.

Liko of Meseta, who came to Maragaid in hopes of finding out the truth about a heart pendant that granted her her magic.

Roy of Meseta, whose song of thunder can hit as hard as his fists.

What wonders and terrors await this merry band of minstrels? Can they find out the truth about Liko's pendant, and its connection to treachery in the royal city of Ardamore?

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Zeldalike Idea (inspired by The Legend of Zelda, the indie Zeldalike Tunic, and SV)

In a magical Pokemon world far from the one we know, many ruins dot the land, with treasures untold just waiting for the taking. While these ruins are often explored by explorer's guilds, this is not to say that Pokemon haven't ventured off into the ruins by themselves.

A brave Sprigatito named Menta was one of these Pokemon.

Ever since she was a kitten, Menta's mother--who once adventured across the world as a noble rogue before hanging up her bow and settling down--had often told of the Celestial Jewels--large gems that were the pure essence of an element--earth, fire, wind, water, ice, thunder, nature, the sun, the moon, and spirit. If these ten jewels were united when the world needed it most, Menta's mother said, amazing things would happen.

With her mother's wisdom and blessings, her father's sword and blessings, and a bow of her own, Menta ventured forth into the world to find out if that bedtime story of yore was true.

The next question was finding out just where the Celestial Jewels were.

The wise Delphox archsage of the local adventurer's guild in Flora Town told Menta that the way to find the Celestial Jewels would be long and full of danger, but worth her while. She also promised Menta she would do what she could to help her on her adventure.

What wonders and terrors await Menta on her journey? Will she ever find out if the legend of the Celestial Jewels is true?

Classic Final Fantasy Pokemonized and Expanded (introducing my new fantasyverse; inspired by the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 14's main questline)

In the fantastic Pokemon world of Aurea, a legend is told that when the world needs it most, a band of heroes will journey across the land, and awaken the Great Crystals--the purest distillation of the elements. When all the Great Crystals are awakened, a ninth Crystal will be born--the Great Rainbow Crystal, and with it, its guardian Iris, who rides on the phoenix Ho'oh.

For a long time, many thought the legend of the crystals was just a bedtime story--but when a treacherous duke with his eyes on the throne of Springminister began plotting to awaken a primal dragon, a band of eight heroes seeking their fortune arrived to offer their services to the king:

--red mage Ash and runeblade Serena, of the town of Whitemore
--Blue Dragon magic knight Dame Misty, of the seaside city of Riverburgh
--High Minstrel Brock, of the mountain town of Silvermount
--ranger May of the town of Lakeglen
--astralist Dawn, of the eternally starlit city of Starwatch
--dancer Liko, from the mountain village of Winter's Peak
--fighter Roy, who settled in the town of Stormacre after traveling from a land far to the east

When rumors at court began to fly about a plot, this group of heroes volunteered to investigate, and if necessary, awaken the crystals.

Little did Ash realize that Duke Rose's plot to awaken the primal dragon Eternatus was real--as was the prophecy of the crystals and the goddess Iris.

What wonders and terrors await our heroes on their journey? Can they fulfill the prophecy before the world is engulfed in eternal darkness?

Modern Cultural Treasures Idea (based on Roy's character profile, and Pokemonizing real Japan)

In a Pokeworld of long ago, it was--and is--not unheard of for Wakunese temples and shrines to have a sacred jewel in its innermost sanctum. There are many stories about how a temple or a shrine got its sacred jewel, but the most common plot has a Legendary grant the priest or miko that built the temple the jewel as thanks for building them a shrine or temple, but the stories about the jewels are as varied and diverse as Wakunese culture itself.

Many of these shrines and temples still stand today, and people from all across the Pokeworld flock to see them all--and even walk the winding road across Waku to see them all, which is long been known as the Divine Treasure Road.

While most tourists are happy with a picture of the jewel, most Wakunese recommend stopping to get a souvenir book to hold the coins you can get at each stop on the long route. This way, you have the memory of the experience, and a little information about each temple and shrine on the route. Sometimes, travelers may be lucky enough to stumble upon a traditional Wakunese festival!

Since his return to Waku, Roy has yearned to show Liko these treasures of Wakunese culture--and take Ash and the gang along for the ride. Liko was surprisingly receptive to the long walk, but Roy assured Liko there would be plenty more to see on the way besides the shrines and temples.

What wonders and surprises await the group across Waku? Will Liko find seeing all the sacred jewels worth the trip, or will it be at least a few months of torture?

Fantasy Treasure Hunting Idea (based on Roy's character profile, SV lore, and Dragon Quest Treasures)

Among the many treasure hunting guilds and clans in a fantasy Pokeworld, the Crystalsong clan is considered one of the best in the business. Rather than seeking out treasure for their own gain, they seek out treasure for study, research, and preserving culture.

While the band of ragtag best friends may have some eclectic abilities, they have a bond stronger than diamonds. Led by the brave battlemage Ash, the clan scours the fantastic Pokeworld for lost treasure, in hopes of learning about the ancient civilizations that created them. So when their latest expedition takes them to the far off land of Criania, they are caught up in a race between other clans and guilds for ten very special treasures--the Celestial Pearls--and how they could be key to preventing four gods of ruin from being reborn in the present day.

What wonders and terrors await the clan on their expedition across Criania? Can they keep the Celestial Pearls from falling into evil hands, and the four evil gods sealed?

How I Believe Ash Has Aged (or, how I tweaked a fan theory to fit my work)

According to this, Ash would be 15 by the time his story ended, assuming each episode was one day. Here's how I imagine that to work in my remixed animeverse:

--celebrated a birthday in Johto (since the Orange Islands took place offscreen in the remixed animeverse)
--celebrated another birthday in Shinou
--celebrated another birthday in Kalos
--celebrated another birthday in Galar+Sword Shield DLC
--Will turn 15 this year. during SV and its DLC (since Ash is still adventuring in my fan universes, including the remixed animeverse)

About A Thousand Days of Wandering Together (inspired by D&D: Honor Among Thieves, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and The Legend of Zelda)

One of the highlights of the group's week is the weekly "Heroes of the Jade Era" game with Taran, Ash's father, in the DM's chair. So after the previous campaign ended, the group decided to start anew with a seemingly simple adventure--collect eight elemental jewels, and race to the imperial capital before an evil prime minister can set his plot to take over Waku in motion at the height of a martial arts tournament.

But like any memorable tabletop campaign, the most memorable moments happen off the beaten path.

The group was awed at the vast incarnation of Waku that Taran created, and the more the group explored, the more he created, with just as many treasures and elemental sets of items to find--but he would always gently remind them to get back on track if they got too far off track. The group's imaginations were just as active finding ways to work things from other genres into an ancient Wakunese world--and sometimes events in the real world spill over into the fantasy.

What wonders and terrors await Ash and the gang as they journey across this vast incarnation of Waku, and Taran's very active imagination? No matter what happens, and no matter how long it goes, this will be a campaign to remember!

Hundred Year Journey Idea (inspired by Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest)

In ancient Waku, history tells us that for a period of about 300 years, Waku reeled from chaos as warlords vied for control of Waku. But while history says that this period ended with the defeat of Nobunaga, and Emperor Divine Dragon--Lance's distant ancestor--those who follow the way of martial arts point to a different reason--the culmination of the Eight Spirits' long hundred year journey to gather many different Harmony Pearls.

Exactly how many Harmony Pearls the Eight Spirits gathered is not known, but it is agreed that it took a hundred years to gather enough to defeat Nobunaga, purge evil sects and schools from Waku, and restore harmony to the superregion.

History may brush off the story as myth, legend, martial lore, and literature, but if you ask any practicing martial artist, theater actor, writer, painter, or musician in Waku, the story is very real--and Ash and the gang are only the latest to portray the Eight Spirits in a stage adaptation of the epic tale, which in turn was adapted from a novel.

This is the tale immortalized in novel, and then in stage and screen format--the tale of the Eight Spirits' hundred year journey of harmony that restored peace to Waku, and paved the way for the Waku we know today.
