I believe I bought my 3DS specifically to replace my DSi (whose shoulder buttons are borked), actually. Got Ocarina of Time 3D as one of my first games.

I have the OR/AS one it came with. Though I don't really see the point of using it since I prefer my regular 3DS.

Well, I guess it was the DSi to the Nintendo DS was, maybe slightly less and more in certain aspects. With that said, I'd recommend it only for two reasons:
1. Extra buttons/stick by default, helpful for the Monster Hunters among other things
2. The original's out of production now, so it's hard to find the original.
With that said, do what you will if you need them for specific purposes, like a capture card or something.
