News Mallow in the Anime [Spoilers - Leaked Information]

So today we learned of a new NPC who will be appearing in Pokemon Sun and Moon named Mallow, a Trial Captain who specializes in Grass-type Pokemon and is described as being somewhat of an unorthodox cook...

This is not the first time we've seen Mallow, however, as she's been in front of us the entire time on the leaked concept art of the Alola Starter Final Forms that were up to this point unconfirmed but due to her presence in the artwork of Litten 3, cooking using its belt as a stove, she confirmed the art as being legit. Well, for the skeptical out there you might still not believe it, but the design is a perfect match even down to getting the cooking element right so I can't see that as a coincidence.

More importantly in terms of the anime it seems rather likely that her inclusion alongside Ash and Pikachu points to her being one of Ash's new traveling companions in the Sun and Moon anime. With that being said how do you feel about this? What do you expect from her character, since she seems to be a twist on Brock and Cilan by being a rather offbeat cook, and what Pokemon do you expect she might have? It's worth noting one of the Trial Captains are confirmed to have a Marowak, hinting at them using a Kanto Pokemon as their signature, so Mallow might follow through on that. Will she have a classic Pokemon re-typed as an Alolan Grass-type Pokemon? Or might she have one of the many new Grass-type Pokemon we've seen like Fomantis or Bounsweet?

She may have an Alolan Exeggutor, as she's a Grass specialist. I do wonder how the writers will set her apart from Misty and Iris.

That's what I was thinking but it seems like they'd probably wanna go with something else for her main that's a bit more compact and easier to put into more scenes. I mean Brock had Onix, but nowadays it seems they wanna make sure everyone has a cute dude to use they can put in any scene.

Personally I'd love if they went with Exeggute instead, it's easier to do that with and I've always wanted to see more of it in the show.

Judging by her description she's basically gender-flipped Cilan.

I seriously hope that is fake because we'd be getting yet another Fire/Fighting...

A Grass-version of Misty+Iris sounds pretty horrible on paper. But I guess I'll have to wait and see what she's really like.

Dear God, I hope we get another Iris for two reasons:

1) It makes me happy.
2) It makes the haters miserable.

You can be happy about a potential other Iris because you like her, but wanting to make haters miserable is going too far. Calm down and this goes for everyone too. I don't want this thread to get out of control because of another Iris debate.

Anyway, Mallow being in that image does make it more possible for her to be a traveling companion, but I don't know if it guarantees it completely either. Maybe it's because I'd rather see them bring in the playable female lead, if only for my hopes of Contests or some side quest being available in the game to come true, and also because another Gym Leader based character does not appeal to me. I don't think Misty or Iris worked out that well at all for different reasons, so another female Gym Leader based character, or the closest to Gym Leaders that the games might have, doesn't sound too appealing. I will say that Mallow probably has the best design out of the new characters revealed today.

I want her to be the Brock-type of character, the one who explains stuff and is slightly older.

Sophocles should be the male companion pls and he should get Togedemaru instead of a girl always getting the Pika clone.

How can you say her personality seems to be similar? We've barely seen anything of her in the games and she could be different in the show too. Not to mention there is no guarantee that she's in the main cast yet, even with this leak in mind.

Her official art? It's not like Pokemon's renders are boring and stiff, they actually tell about the character. Sure the anime could make her different but they could have chosen Lillie, who seems totally different to the other girls, more than Mallow does.
