just realized this

look at caterpie, see the V/Y shape on his head?

look at metapod, see the V/Y shape to his head?

look at VENOMOTH, see the V/Y shape on his head?

look at venonat, see the antennae, mouth shape, hand shape?

look at BUTTERFREE, see the antennae, mouth shape, hand shape?

caterpie was originally supposed to evolve into venomoth, and venonat was going to evolve into butterfree!

Lots of people know Venonat was supposed to evolve into Butterfree.

Saw that infraction coming. Anyway, it's the designs:

Spr_1b_011.png
Spr_1b_049.png

Similar, it's the eyes.

Similar, it's the face

Okay, I don't have one-hundred percent evidece to support this but Butterfree was probably made right after Caterpie and Metapod while Venonat and Venomoth were made before they were.

Yeah, they are probably were supposed to. But in the end they didn't.
Comparing Caterpie to Venomoth: Both have insect legs, they have the antenna, the eyes, and venomoth has the tailed wings. Also I think Venomoth used to have the yellow circles in its back.
Perhaps that's nowhere enough, but remember the thing just went through metamorphosys. Compare Beedrill with Weedle.
Venonat and Butterfree? Butterfree is a Venonat made of two circles and with wings.

Though their sprites don't show Venomoth looking much like a butterfly nor Butterfree like a moth.

But either way this is old news.

well i feel dumb for just noticing it lol:thumbd:

Stop stating your casual observations as facts.

That thing on Venomoth's head isn't even remotely close to a V or a Y shape. It's more like a W, and even then, not even close since the middle spoke is larger.

Metapod has no V/Y pattern either.

This is as ridiculous as people trying to explain that Trapinch is Charizard's original pre-evolution based on its jaw and colour, just because they couldn't conceive how an antlion turns into a dragon.

color coded similarities for ya

im not grasping at straws here.....butterfree is basically venonat with wings and clown shoes

No, clearly grasping at straws as that V-shaped pattern isn't even V or Y shaped, and saying its on Metapod's head, when its basically a cocoon with eyes is just ridiculous. Where does one define its head? Even if we were to consider that region its head, it clearly not what you're trying to make it out to be if you look at any of its other sprites and artwork.

Again, the similarities are just vague connections. Suddenly, anything with three prongs on its head are related? Not even that, something that goes from a clearly two-pronged Y-shaped antenna, to a cocoon who's three pointy bits are no where near the same position to indicate it being an antenna, must be related to a moth with three horns that look nothing like a Y or a V.

It's also amazing how similar insect features are suddenly being brought up to prove relation between Pokemon.
The thing with people clinging at straws in this fandom is, that they don't know they're doing it.

If we're going with something so vaguely related to make our point, Pikachu and Weedle are related. Its the eyes.

ok, lets just say we forget the venomoth caterpie thing

are you going to honestly say venonat and butterfree aren't EXTREMELY similar?

like....their eyes, hands, mouth, antennas, their eye color and body color, as well as arrangement of all of these features?

This is pretty old, and the theory is quite flawed. Just because a pokemon look like each other doesn't give it enough reasoning to evolve into it. Plus, how excatly do you Metapod was supposed to evolve to Venamoth? Venanot into Butterfree?

I'm pretty sure this is true, I heard it on another site or something. But the thing I don't get is why Venomoth is purple, and Caterpie and Metapod are green (but Butterfree is also purple)? Also, why is it Venonat and Venomoth?

065 Venonat
119 Venomoth
123 Caterpie
124 Metapod
125 Butterfree

Order they were created in.

You know, like Luvdisc and Mamanbo.

those numbers do not mean that they created one before the other, only that they were put into the game in that order...
