Serving as the appetizer to the major Pokémon game announcements, The Pokémon Company shared more information on new game systems in New Pokémon Snap during the Pokémon Presents videos earlier today.

In New Pokémon Snap, players will trek across different biomes in the Lental Region, researching and taking pictures of native Pokémon in their natural habitat. Jungle, desert, and undersea biomes were highlighted, each with Pokémon interacting with the environment in unique ways rarely seen. Also showcased were, Lental Region Expert and Pokémon Professor Mirror and his assistants Rita and Phil, who will be there to guide the player during their adventures across the region.

During the gameplay trailer, several mechanics to help researchers get pictures of Pokémon were shown. From throwing Fluffruit to playing melodies, these are tools at the player's disposal to help fill up their Photodex. Another highlighted item is an Illumia Orb, of Prof. Mirror's creation, used to make Pokémon in the region and their attacks glow. This is showcased by a Scorbunny kicking red fire, but once the Illumia Orb is applied, Scorbunny gains some glowing effect and fiery red kicks turn the same glowing blue. All of these tools can be used to get engaging and rare Photodex shots to be rated by Prof. Mirror.

These photo entries can further be customized in the new photo mode. Players can use stickers and frames to add their personal flair to acquired photos. These photos can then be uploaded for fellow players to see and rate in a gamified version of social media within New Pokémon Snap. Popular photos even have a chance of being highlighted for further attention, though how exactly this highlighting will function is currently unclear.

With a release date of April 30th, 2021, we'll all be researching soon enough.
