Most Useless Game Feature?

That's a no brainer, in my opinion: the Rotroll Pokédex advice of US/UM which infinitely tortures you to death, of course. Everytime Kukui makes his appearence in the game I can't help but think: "Please, can you take back your freaking Pokédex...?".
Same. I rarely use Rotom powers, so I don't even need that many of em, and though I initially like Rotom Dex (and still like him as a concept), I'd have preferred for him to have a mute button...

Also, the withdraw/deposit options, I'm glad they finally removed those

That? It was all with the best of intentions so I personally can't get mad at Rotodex myself. Maybe just shake my head with a begrudging grin when it tells me about weather or terrain effects for the fiftieth time but never mad.

This will probably be controversial to many, but my recent replay of HeartGold reminded me of a mechanic I hate: the Berry Pots. I get that there are no places to plant berries in Johto, and I know that having berries on the go is helpful to many, but not to me. I'd rather have a certain location (like the Berry Master's fields, for example) where I can get a VISUAL aid of how my berries are doing. I hate needing to constantly check the Berry Pots in my bag, as I can forget about them oh so easily. I really need visual aids when it comes to such things, as it's easier for me to keep track of things when I can just look at what's in front of me and not require extra steps to do so. Plus the yields are so low, which is annoying, meaning you have to do multiple plantings just to get the amount you want. So I don't like the limited nature and lack of visual reminders that the Berry Pots have. So, simply put, I don't like the Berry Pots.

I actually feel the opposite XD Berry Pots aren't perfect, but at least they're always accessible. I mean, the Berry Master's garden is a good place too, but tons of berry patches are also kinda out of the way. At least the Poketch berry app would notify you want they were ready. At least with the berry pots it's easy to check up on your berries

Talking about HG/SS... Those games feature a lot of cool things but there also is that atrocity I hate a lot: the Voltorb flip, simply one of the worst things ever.
That minigame is divisive, isn't it? Sure, it was a little disappointing not having the traditional casino venue, but I quite enjoyed Voltorb Flip (partly because I'm already good at logic-based games like Minesweeper and Picross). It took WAY less time to win that Porygon in HGSS than any other game (heck, in other games I often avoided the casino games entirely and just purchased the game coins outright).

I love Voltorb Flip. Once you give the thing a chance, you realize it's addictive.
Yeah, I don't really understand why people get upset over it replacing the game corner. Is just pressing a button 3 times that much more fun than an actual game? Or is it the fact that people didn't like having to use their brains a little? Either way, it didn't matter to me.the games were good and having nothing in place of the game corner wouldnt have changed that.

I don't really mind Voltorb Flip that much either, but I just wish I had the usual option of skipping the minigame through buying tons of coins. Things are gonna feel worse when they're forced.

Walking pokémon.

Don't get me wrong, it's cute but it's kind of gimmicky and there's no real reason for it.

Honestly, I think critical capture didn't add as much to the games as it was supposed to. It seemed cool in theory, and the different sound effects made me certain I did something really cool, but most of the time, catch rates aren't so hard as to even need it in the first place, especially when you probably already had the Pokemon weakened for a regular capture. (There's something funny about it being added in Gen 5, too-I know it didn't introduce False Swipe, but with Juniper giving it to you, it certainly made it more accessible) I think there's hope for it to become useful, though, especially since LGPE uses GO catching mechanics-maybe they'll be combined and weakening a Pokemon+aiming a critical capture could feel like an achievement?

Changing backgrounds in PC boxes. As a kid I was like aw ya cool designs but now it seems like a waste of time to change them when you can label them by name

I'm not sure if it's a "game feature", but being taught how to catch a Pokemon generation after generation becomes exceptionally annoying.

I would call that neither a feature (there’s nothing you can do with it; it’s a static tutorial sequence that only occurs once in the entire game) nor useless (as there are likely plenty of younger or newer players who would find it helpful). It’s more of an obligatory (but consistently poorly managed) element of game design.

So, I didn't finish Ultra Moon when it came out, and have only just got back to it. And just, Rotom in this game. I didn't realize how much I disliked him before. In Sun and Moon he was really cute. But it feels like if you don't interact with him for like 2 minutes he'll get all sad eyed, and it's just so distracting. And every time you do tap him, it's time to roll the lotto machine, and if you don't do that, his eyes keep flashing. It's seriously annoying sometimes.

Amen. I wish he was just a happy bunny all the time and he only spoke to ask me philosophical questions or tell me how great I am.

It's not useless, per se, but it's very irritating: character customisation. I find it sapped a lot of my time because I didn't want to pursue the main story until my outfit looked great and my hair style was in harmony with it all and... I never moved a step. I was never happy because the choices weren't extensive enough and the colouration could be sort of unsightly at times. That's why I loved the older games - character designs were already so brilliant that I had no desire to change them.

I think that's mostly it. But yes, Rotom has gotten pretty annoying. Though the benefits to be reaped from his lottery are pretty good, actually. They've saved me more than once, but I could do without the flashing, depressed face in my lower screen. Oh well. I still dig him.

Shinies. The colors just don't look right when you're used to the standard colors. And they don't really do much different from the regular Pokémon other than sparkle, so is it really worth shiny hunting? It's bad enough that a lot of Pokémon are rare, but to hunt for an even rarer off-color version of those Pokémon. And people use GameSharks and ActionReplay to get an all-shiny team, so it can often make you look like a cheater for having them. I prefer the classic colors, thank you. And besides, there's a shiny Gyarados given in the Johto games.
