TINA's Nuzlocke Series

I guess i should return to Nagasaki to stop Maxie from stealing the submarine. I head down Mt. Pyre and then down route 123, where i stole a Gyaradosite from a Poochyena. When i arrive in Mauville, i remember that i can just use an HM slave to fly between cities, so i do that. I head to the docks for the grand unveiling of the submarine. Captain Stern had just finished an interview when i arrive, and he then picks me out of the crowd to tell me how his sub can be used to find the super-ancient pokemon on route 128. We then hear a voice from inside the shipyard, claiming that team magma is stealing the submarine. Inside, we see Homura and Maxie steal the ship, claiming they're bringing it to their base in Lilycove. A few magma grunts battle me so i can't immediately give chase, but i dispatch them with ease.

Stern gives me a lift in his boat to the Lilycove harbor, so i guess i should now search this city for the magma base. As i walk up the stairs to the northern part of the city, Brendan approaches me; he had apparently been doing shopping in the department store here. He challenges me a battle, which i totally have time for. He leads with Swellow and i lead with Kaboom. One discharge takes him out, so next is Swampert. I switch to Zangief and take him out with three slashes. Next is Breloom, so i switch to Benekiptus. I mega evolve and take it out with a blaze kick, though i do end up poisoned. Last is Magcargo, so i send Sashimi out and one-shot it. After this battle, Brendan concludes that he's just not cut out to be a trainer, and says he'll return to Littleroot Town to help his dad with research.

with that out of the way, i continue my search for the base. Along the way, i fish up Rommel the Tentacool. I end up finding a big cave just off the coast, so i go in to investigate. I also catch Dory the Magikarp while i'm here. Yup, this looks like the base. This place has a bunch of teleporter pads similar to the Silph Co building in Kanto. I find a Master Ball while exploring this base, which will be very useful later on. I eventually make it through to Magma Admin Kagari, who is guarding the sub. She sends out her Camerupt and i send out Sashimi. I mega evolve and OHKO, but not in time to prevent the submarine from getting away. I guess i'll now have to search for Maxie in the vast sea beyond Lilycove. Blegh, too much water. 7.8/10.

So i head out into the great sea. I catch Poseidon the Tentacruel on route 124. I then hit land in Mossedeep City, where a guy gives me his Super Rod. I immediately use it to fish up a Wailmer, which i name Werner. It is at this point that i remember a cave i hadn't yet explored on route 120. So i head to the Scorched Slab and fish up Edo Jishin the Barboach. To anyone who knows me, it should come as no surprise that i let it onto my team immediately. Sorry Zangief, you performed admirably, but Edo Jishin gives ground coverage and evolves into my favorite pokemon.

I think i'll call it a day for now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Boe (Banette) lv 41
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 42
Edo Jishin (Barboach) lv 35
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 41
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 42
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 42

i thought i'd only get one or two megas at most throughout the game, but now i have 3 in my active party. crazy how these things turn out.

I head to the move deleter in Lilycove to have Sashimi forget Surf and teach it to Edo Jishin instead. I then head back to Mossedeep. There's a gym here, but i'm not sure i should be wasting time on the gym challenge with team magma at large. So instead, i go look for them up north on route 125, where i catch Pearl the Wailmer. While i'm here, Edo Jishin evolves into the most adorable little Whiscash ever. i love this thing. I just want to hug it and cuddle it and keep it safe. But unfortunately we have ecoterrorists to find, so i don't have much time to gush over this cutie. Anyway, i come across a place called Shoal Cave. While searching this place for magma grunts, i encounter a Golbat, which i name Batman.

After clearing out the cave and finding no hints of the ecoterrorists, i remember that the boat team magma stole was in fact a submarine, so i'll likely have to search for them underwater. To go underwater, you need to use dive, for which you need the mossedeep badge, so i guess i'll be challenging the gym. Before i do so though, i need to train my darling Edo Jishin up a bit. When i'm done training, i head back to Mossedeep and challenge the gym. This is a psychic gym, so Benekiptus and Sumo will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'll be bringing Sou the Wynaut and Squidward the Tentacool, as death fodder.

The gym puzzle involves floating across a room along paths determined by switches. I eventually navigate my way to the gym leaders, a pair of twins called Tate and Liza who do double battles. I challenge them to a battle, and they send out their Solrock and Lunatone while i lead with Sashimi and Boe. After getting the intimidate off, i mega evolve Sashimi and have my mons double up on the Solrock, though Sashimi's crunch OHKOs it, which means Boe's shadow ball hits Lunatone instead, leaving it with a sliver as it goes for Hypnosis and misses. Tate & Liza go for a full restore, allowing me to kill the lunatone and grab the win without taking any damage.

When i step outside, there's a giant earthquake and a beam of light emitting from route 128. Steven then comes up to me and congratulates me on defeating the gym leaders, then takes me to his house. He informs me that route 128 is the resting place of the ancient pokemon he was studying back in Granite Cave, and that he suspects this beam of light is related to it. This mon could seriously upset the world's weather patterns, which seems to be in line with what the ecoterrorists want. He then gives me the HM for Dive so that i can access the underwater, as well as scuba gear so as to not drown, allowing me to reach the super-ancient pokemon.

I think i'll call it a day for now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 44
Boe (Banette) lv 44
Edo Jishin (Whiscash) lv 43
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 42
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 43
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 43

I head south onto route 127 and catch a Tentacruel, which i name Inky. I then realise i haven't yet taught dive to any of my party members, so i teach it to Sashimi. Nothing of note on the seafloor here though, so i head on to route 128, where i fish up ♥ the Luvdisc. I dive underwater here and catch Seth the Chinchou. Diving here in Kyushu's seas is really beautiful by the way; if you're a fan of diving, you should defs check out this underwater scenery. I come across a giant cavern here where i see Team Magma's stolen submarine being stationed. this must be where they're at. I catch a golbat and name it Akari, then i plough my way through a bunch of magma grunts while navigating this maze of a cavern. Eventually, i make my way through to the room where the legendary pokemon Groudon rests. There, i witness a discussion between Maxie and Aqua leader Archie. Archie seems to have failed to stop Maxie, and does one final attempt to sway him not to enact his disastrous plan.

I guess it once again falls to me to stop the ecoterrorists. I run up to Maxie, and we do battle after he goes on a bit of a villain rant. He sends out Mightyena and i lead with Benekiptus. One double kick takes him out, despite his intimidate. Next is Weezing, so i switch to Boe. Boe mega evolves and takes it out in two hits. Crobat comes next, so i send out Kaboom and two-shot it with discharge. Last is Camerupt, so i send out Edo Jishin. Camerupt mega evolves, but that doesn't stop me from one-shotting with surf. The results of our battle don't actually seem to matter to maxie though. He continues to rant about how he'll awaken Groudon, when we're interrupted by admin Homura who tells Maxie that this is a very bad idea, considering what he learned at the weather institute. Maxie ignores him though, and awakens Groudon with the orb he stole from Mt. Pyre.

Maxie gloats in his victory, but then gets a call from outside that the weather is far worse than team magma had anticipated and that everyone is now in danger. Archie then scolds Maxie for underestimating the power of the super-ancient pokemon. Shut up Archie, you'd be just as bad if the roles were reversed and you know it. Anyway, we all head outside and see that the sky is literally on fire from Groudon's power. Maxie seems to regret his actions, but it's a bit too late for that; the damage has been done. Archie remarks that Groudon seems to be headed for Sootopolis City, so we should be heading in that direction. The teams then leave in that direction, and Steven comes soaring in on his Latias. He remarks how this extreme sun could destroy the whole earth, and asks me to go fix the problem.

I think i'll call it a day for now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 45
Boe (Banette) lv 45
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 45
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 45
Edo Jishin (Whiscash) lv 45
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 45

I thus head to Route 126 where i catch Moby Dick the Wailmer. There's no entrance to Sootopolis on the water's surface, so i dive and find a hidden cavern, which can be used to access the city. Is this really the only way into the city? how do they get food or other basic necessities in here? must be terribly inconvenient to live here. it's a beautiful city though, with the houses hewn out of the sides of a caldera. I wish i had time to appreciate it, but there's a giant lava monster at large. So i catch Ponyo the Magikarp and explore the city. I meet Steven here, who is talking to the gym leader. Gym leader Wallace sees that i hold the Blue Orb, so he takes me to the entrance of the Cave of Origin, where Archie, Maxie and Homura are waiting. Team Magma and the Devon Corporation have apparently crafted a suit that can withstand Groudon's magma, which Homura gives to me. Everyone then gives me words of encouragement, including Brendan who shows up for some reason, and the gym leader grants me access to the cave, where Groudon resides.

Inside the cave, i catch a Golbat and name it Nori. I then proceed deeper and deeper as the earth trembles under my feet. I finally reach a pool of magma, so i put on my magma suit and let the blue orb shine, and Groudon comes out. I then get a call from Maxie through the suit. He tells me to ride Groudon, so i do that. Groudon takes me to a battlefield, where he reverses to his primal form and we face off. I fling my Master Ball its way, and it's over. I've caught the legendary pokemon Groudon. But it's ugly so i release it immediately. The cave then starts to collapse around me, so i flee. When i get outside, i see that the sun has cleared up and the weather is back to normal. the day is saved. Team magma also seems to regret their actions and won't repeat them. Maxie even gives me the red orb he stole. I still think they belong in jail for what they've done, but i don't call the shots.

The teams leave, and Steven gives me a flute to call my old friend Latios and soar through the sky with him. I hope Latios isn't pissed ad me for releasing him because he's ugly. I immediately take to the skies to try it out. You get a great view over all of Kyushu from up here. This is truly amazing. I know few others will get to experience flight the way i'm experiencing it now, but if you ever get the opportunity, grab it. I run into a flock of wingull up here, catch one and name it Hyoi. I land on route 128 and decide to further explore the seas from here. Under the waterfall to Ever Grande, i catch Ugh the Luvdisc. On route 129, i catch Hugo the Wailmer.

I think i'll call it a day for now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 46
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 46
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 46
Edo Jishin (Whiscash) lv 46
Boe (Shuppet) lv 47
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 46

Maybe i should have saved my master ball for Rayquaza, but eh, whatever.

Also, why does this game feel the need to have Brendan show up everywhere? he adds nothing.

I head west onto route 130, where i catch QWERTY the Wailmer. On route 131, i catch a Horsea, which i name Umi-Epona. There's a cave on this route that seems to lead to a big tower in the distance, but some girl is blocking my access. eh, probs unimportant. I then stumble upon a town called pacifidlog, which is entirely built on floating logs atop a Corsola population. pretty damn awesome, though i do wonder how they keep any sort of economy running out here. fisheries must be big, i guess. Anyway, i fish up a Wailmer and name it Blob.

After a short stop, i head further west and get swept away by an incredibly strong current. I manage to catch another Wailmer here and name it Blauw, but i seriously hope that i won't get swept so far from the shore that i can't return. I get swept onto route 133 where i catch Kasumi the Horsea before the current whisks me away again to route 134. Here, i happen to land at a place where i can dive, so i head underwater and find a chamber with a bunch of braille. The braille on the wall mentions i need both a Wailord and a Relicanth to proceed, but since i have neither, i just fish up Benito the Wailmer and head above the water again. As soon as i hit the surface, the current takes me away again, to Nagasaki. So happy to have solid land under my feet again. i'll tell you, that was scary.

I think it's now time to fly back to Sootopolis and challenge the last gym in the region. This is a water gym, so Benekiptus will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'll take Sou the Wynaut, as death fodder. The gym puzzle here involves walking across icy floors in such a pattern that every tile will crack. i'm pretty good at this; i only break through once. I reach Wallace without too much effort and challenge him to a battle. He leads with Luvdisc and i lead with Boe. He uses attract, forcing me to switch to Sumo. Sumo gets hit by a lovely kiss, so i switch again, this time to Kaboom. Discharge takes him out, and wallace sends out his Whiscash. I switch to Edo Jishin for a standoff between two of the most adorable pokemon ever. It breaks my heart to have to take Wallace's whiscash out, but i need the badge, so i take it out with two earthquakes. Milotic is up next, so i switch to Kaboom. Two discharges take it out, but Kaboom is now badly damaged. Wallace sends out Sealeo, so i send out Sumo and take it out. Last is Seaking, for which i switch to Sashimi. I mega evolve and take him out with one crunch, getting me the win.

Wallace gives me the last badge, as well as HM05 Waterfall, which i will need to access Ever Grande City, where the pokemon league is. I teach it to Sashimi immediately, then i decide to call it a day for now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Boe (Banette) lv 48
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 47
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 48
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 48
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 48
Edo Jishin (Whiscash) lv 48

didn't plan to go to the braille chamber; got there through pure coincidence. i had already decided to just skip it since it's a lot of effort to get to and it yields no pokemon i want.

also, didn't Waterfall used to be HM07?

It's time to head for the league. I climb the waterfall east of route 128 to reach Ever Grande City. How is this a city? it's a single pokemon center in the middle of nowhere, next to a cave. Anyway, i enter the victory road and catch a Golbat, which i name Batass. I then proceed through the cave. To my surprise, when i reach the end, i encounter my old friend Wally, who is an honest-to-goodness trainer now. He thanks me for everything i've done for him, then he challenges me to a battle to show how strong he has become. He leads with Altaria and i lead with Kaboom. We exchange weak hits, but i end up on top. Next is Roselia, so i switch to Benekiptus and take it down with a blaze kick. Magneton is up next, so i send out Edo Jishin. One earthquake isn't enough due to sturdy, so i kill it with a second earthquake while taking pitiful damage from flash cannon. Then comes Delcatty, which is Sumo's job. I fake it out and then OHKO with close combat. Last is his ace, Gallade. I switch to Boe and mega evolve while to my surprise Wally also mega evolves. He swords dances and then uses psycho cut, taking me out while i did half damage. I send out Sashimi to finish him off with Waterfall.

We won, but we've lost Boe. You were a great friend for the time you were with us. You may have already been dead, being a ghost-type and all, but i still hope you rest in peace.

Zangief the Zangoose is back on the team. it's time for a big training session though; nobody's ready yet to face the champion. After training for some time, i decide to call it a day for now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current team:
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 50
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 50
Edo Jishin (Whiscash) lv 50
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 50
Zangief (Zangoose) lv 50
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 51

forgot that the speed change from mega evolution isn't applied immediately in this gen; thought i outsped the gallade.

After a lot of training, it's finally time to challenge the league. Up first is Sydney, who leads with a Mightyena. I send out Sumo and OHKO with close combat after faking it out. Shiftry is next, so i send out Zangief and take it down with X-Scissor. Then comes Sharpedo, so i switch to Kaboom who kills it with Discharge. Absol is next, so i send out Benekiptus who mega evolves and takes it out with double kick. Last is Cacturne, so i send Zangief back out and OHKO with X-Scissor. one down. i don't expect things to stay this easy though.

Elite Four Phoebe is up next. She leads with Dusclops and i lead with Sashimi. I mega evolve immediately and crunch it down. Up next is Dusknoir, so i stay in and once again take it down with a single crunch. She then sends out Sableye, so i switch to Edo Jishin and earthquake it down. She does waste several hyper potions on this mon, but that can't stop me. Shuppet is up next, so i send Sashimi back out and one-shot it with crunch. Last is her final Shuppet, which goes down just as easily as the first. two down.

Third is Glacia, the ice-type specialist. She leads with Glalie and i lead with Benekiptus. I mega evolve and take it out with a blaze kick. She then sends out her Walrein, so i send out Kaboom. I take it out with two discharges as it misses with blizzard. Her Froslass is up next, so i send out Sashimi and crunch it to death. Her other Froslass comes in immediately after and gets the same treatment. It survives my crunch though and sets up hail. Glacia goes for a full restore, but my second crunch kills it; apparently it was a range. Last is her second Glalie, so i send Benekiptus back out and kill it with a blaze kick. three down.

Up fourth is Drake. He leads with Altaria and i lead with Sashimi. I mega evolve and kill it with Ice Fang. Flygon then comes out and also dies to a single ice fang. Then comes Salamence, who gets an intimidate off, then tanks an ice fang while going for Dragon Rush. Drake then wastes a few full restores as i repeatedly ice fang his salamence to a sliver, until i land a crit and kill it. His second flygon is up now, which goes down as easily as the first. Last is Kingdra, a job i give to Sumo. I fake it out, then kill it with close combat as it goes for Yawn. four down. only the champion remains. i wonder who it could be.

To my surprise, when i step into the champion's room, the person i see there is Steven Stone. He congratulates me on everything i've done on my journey, then we do battle. He leads with Skarmory and i lead with Kaboom. He uses spikes while my discharge paralyzes and brings it down to a sliver. Steven wastes a full restore here, but i take it out regardless. Next is Aggron, so i switch to Benekiptus. Double Kick does not one-shot, and i take serious damage from earthquake. the second double kick does ko, but Benekiptus won't be doing much for the rest of the battle. Anyway, he sends out Claydol so i send out Zangief. X-Scissor does decent damage but he sets up a reflect, which is bad. He also heals with a full restore after i use another x-scissor. I'm eventually forced to switch to Edo Jishin, who takes it out with Surf. Then comes Cradily, so i switch to Sumo, who takes it out with a heavy slam. Armaldo then comes out, so i switch back to Edo Jishin, but Surf doesn't kill and he does kill with X-Scissor in return. I once again failed to protect my cute little Whiscash from harm. Kaboom then comes in and takes its revenge on the bastard Armaldo. Last is Metagross, so i switch to Sashimi. After i get an intimidate off, we both mega evolve and i two-shot with crunch as he goes for a Zen Headbutt i'm immune to, as well as a giga impact that does over half.

Losing Edo Jishin sucks, but we got the win. rest in peace, my little earthquake catfish. your sacrifice is what made this possible. Anyway, Steven and i then hold a little chat about everything that's happened, and he reminds me how back in Meteor Falls, he said that i might one day be champion material. Well, that day has come. It's come two times before this, in Britain and Kanto, but we're just ignoring that. I am now the champion of Kyushu. Brendan then comes barging in to give me advice for beating the champion. little late there, my friend. Birch then also comes and congratulates me. Steven and i then enter the Hall of Fame, where me and my pokemon are registered for eternity.

Me and Brendan then head back home together, to Littleroot. There, on route 103, Brendan challenges me to another battle, like the one we've had at the beginning of this journey. He leads with Swellow and i lead with Kaboom. One discharge and he's down, so next is his Magcargo. I send out Sashimi and kill it with Waterfall. Then comes Raichu, so i switch to Zangief and take it down with strength. Breloom is up next, so i send out Benekiptus and kill it with a blaze kick. Last is his Swampert, for which i'm gonna use Sumo. He mega evolves, but i fake him out and then bring him to a sliver with close combat. a strength then finishes him off. We then go for a walk and see a bunch of shooting stars.

later that day, while i'm in my room, i overhear my mom and dad talk about tickets for something they can't go to because of dad's job. I think i'll call it a day for now.

Zangief (Zangoose) lv 56
Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 56
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 56
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 58

The next morning, i head downstairs where i'm greeted by my parents. They give me a pair of tickets to go see a meteor shower in Mossedeep. they had intended to go together, but couldn't due to dad's job, so they're letting me go there with a friend. Dad suggests i go with Brendan, which seems a good idea as he's a good friend. i should probs tell him i'm gay though; don't want him to get the wrong impression. However, as i step outside, a strange girl greets me and introduces herself as Higana. She seems to have an interest in mega evolution, but i don't really care. I enter Brendan's home, but something bad seems to have happened. it seems the girl from earlier has stolen his mega bracelet, and is headed for Petalburg.

Before i give chase to petalburg, it's time to pick a replacement for Edo Jishin. I pick Kumohane the Swablu and train it up because, y'know, i have time for that. Halfway through this training, i stop by my home again to pick up some things i'd forgotten, but when i leave the house again, i hear Birch call for help from route 101. I quickly grab a poke ball from his bag that contained a Totodile, but it turned out the shrromish that was chasing him wasn't hostile. He lets me keep the totodile, and i name it Toto. Anyway, time to continue my training. During this training, Kumohane evolves into Altaria. Later, as i pass through Lilycove city, some guy notices i have an altaria and decides to give me his Altarianite, so i can now mega evolve.

When i'm done training, i head to Petalburg and see magma admin Kagari harrass Wally for his keystone. didn't i already deal with team magma? why's this bitch still out doing evil? anyway, Wally's keystone has apparently also been stolen. Kagari doesn't believe Wally, so i have to step in to help. Kagari sends out her Camerupt and i lead with Kumohane. I immediately switch to Sashimi and take it out with a waterfall. After i'm done protecting wally, i get a call from Steven who asks me to come to Devon Corporation in Rustboro.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

My current team:
Kumohane (Altaria) lv 56

Benekiptus (Blaziken) lv 59
Sumo (Hariyama) lv 59
Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 60
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 59

now we arrive at the part of the game where i essentially have no idea what's gonna happen. i know that Higana person's important, that i'm gonna ride rayquaza and battle deoxys and that the game will reference another hoenn and thus set up the lore for the ultra wormholes, but other than that, i have no idea what goes on.

I head to Rustboro and meet up with Steven at the Devon building. We head upstairs, where the president tells me about a war that happened in France - sorry, "Kalos" - 3000 years ago. whatever, i'm no history buff. anyway, the devon corp intents to use the same kind of energy that was used in a weapon way back then to build a spaceship for the mossedeep space station. For this project, they ask me to collect meteors from the granite cave in Dewford. When i arrive there, i see Higana examining the murals. When she spots me, she talks a bit about the legends depicted here, and then challenges me to a battle. She leads with Tyrantrum and i lead with Kumohane. I mega evolve immediately and OHKO it with a moonblast. Up next is her own altaria, so i keep Kumohane in and once again kill with moonblast. Last is Salamence, which also goes down in a single moonblast. Higana then gives me a meteorite for winning. When i add it to my bag, the meteorite i picked up way back when at Mt. Chimney starts glowing. probably nothing though.

Steven then calls and tells me to come to the mossedeep space station. So i head over there, and they explain to me how the energy produced by Devon is being put into a rocket and used to drag a comet that's heading this way into another dimension. As we are discussing this, Higana barges in and demands that we cease this project. She rants a bit about how unethical it all is, and then leaves. The professor continues talking about the plan to destroy the meteorite, which apparently requires a second meteorite, from the meteor falls this time. So i head there and look for the other meteor. in the back, i meet up with steven again, who's talking to some old lady. She's apparently the keeper of the lore surrounding a legendary pokemon called Rayquaza. She tells us a story of how Rayquaza saved the world long ago, but i'm not really paying attention. She also mentions that Higana is her granddaughter, and that she's a good person at heart. Anyway, we have what we want, so let's get out of here.

Steven and i head back to Devon, but just as i'm about to enter, a researcher comes storming out and knocks me over. He was apparently fleing team Magma, who are attacking the corporation again. I defeat the magma grunts attacking this poor man, and they mention working for Kagari. I know Maxie learned his lesson after the ordeal with Groudon, so i suspect Kagari's gone rogue. After i beat the grunts, the scientist tells me that the control panel for the rocket mission was stolen. I head for the space station to check if everyone there is safe, but i see Kagari and a bunch of her grunts assemble in front of the station planning an assault. I head into the station after them and fight my way upstairs, where Steven is confronting Kagari. Kagari has gone full crazy; she wants to use the rocket to destroy the world because Maxie has gone soft. So me and Steven team up to take out Kagari and her grunt. I lead with Kumohane, Steven leads with Skarmory and the enemies lead with Mightyena and Camerupt. I mega evolve immediately, as toes Kagari with her camerupt. Mightyena goes out in a single moonblast while steven sets up spikes, but Camerupt's eruption deals serious damage to me and brings skarmory down to sturdy. the grunt sends out Weezing, so i opt to switch for Sashimi. Weezing blows itself up immediately, taking Skarmory down with it. Steven then sends out Aggron; it's a two-on-one now. It only takes one waterfall to take out the camerupt though.

Just as we beat them, Higana's whismur shows up and nicks the control panel, giving it to her trainer. She apparently thinks that if we use it to dispose of the meteorite, it could reappear in a world where mega evolution doesn't exist and destroy Kyushu. that's silly, there are no other versions of Kyushu, and if there were, there'd be a version of this comet in those worlds too. I guess my objections don't matter to her though; she breaks the control panel and with it our only hope of survival. well done girl, you've killed us all. Higana talks about how she's going to save us all, but that seems impossible. She then nicks Kagari's keystone and mentions that she's heading for Lilycove, to the magma base.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 60
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 59

I give chase to lilycove and into the magma base, where all the grunts are hostile to me again. aren't these guys aware that their leader no longer hates me? Things went awfully wrong here though. I wasn't paying attention, so i hadn't noticed a weezing had used destiny bond. as such, when Benekiptus took it down with a blaze kick, it took Benekiptus down with it. my starter is dead. I've lost other mons in the past, but starters hit differently. This guy has been with me from the start, and has held his own in countless challenges. to have him lose his life because of my stupidity, well, it sucks.

I decide that before i'll replace Benekiptus, i'll first clear the rest of this base. Eventually, i catch up with Higana, who is confronting Maxie and Homura. Higana snags Maxie's keystone, and tells me to come to the Sky Pillar after i report to Steven. Homura then gives me a cameruptite. if only Fuji was still alive. I then get a call from Steven where he asks me to return to the space station. Before i head there however, i should replace Benekiptus. I go with Susan the Gloom. After training it up a bit, i use a Sun Stone to evolve it into Bellossom.

When i'm done training, i decide to call it a day for now.

Sashimi (Gyarados) lv 63
Kaboom (Electrode) lv 63
Kumohane (Altaria) lv 63

wanted to do the rest of the postgame today, but then things went wrong

I head back to Mossedeep to speak with Steven. Steven informs me that not just anyone can go into the Sky Pillar, and that i should speak to Sootopolis's gym leader Wallace for permission to access it. So i head over to Sootopolis to speak with the guy. He's not in his gym, but i find him by the entrance to the Cave of Origin. Apparently Steven has already informed him of what's going on, so he agrees to let me into the tower to find Rayquaza and deal with the meteor. He tells me to head to route 131, where the tower is.

I head there and to the tower i couldn't access before. However, before he lets me in, Wallace challenges me to a battle to see whether i'm truly ready to enter the pillar. He leads with Wailord and i lead with Susan. He goes down in a single petal blizzard, so Milotic is up next. I switch to Kaboom and take it out with two discharges. Then comes wallace's cute little Whiscash, but i'm afraid Susan's gonna have to take it down with a giga drain. i'm sorry Whiscash, but it has to be this way. Tentacruel is next, and i switch to Zangief to take it out with two strengths. Gyarados comes out then, so i switch back to Kaboom and Discharge it into oblivion. Last is Ludicolo, so i send out Kumohane and take it out with Fly.

I head inside and catch a Claydol, which i name Senme. I then run into Higana. We climb the tower together while she tells me about the meaning of the murals here. apparently they depict rayquaza using mega evolution to save the people from a calamity. Eventually we reach the peak, far above the clouds. the view of the night sky here is amazing. Rayquaza doesn't seem to be showing though. Higana then knocks me out for some reason; when i wake up, it's daytime. Rayquaza still isn't here though. looks like we're doomed. Higana tries praying to it, which makes her keystones shine and the ground tremor. The prayer worked. Rayquaza is here. It doesn't seem to care much for Higana's keystones though. However, at that point, the meteorite i picked up on mt. Chimney starts glowing. Turns out it's actually Rayquaza's mega stone. Rayquaza eats it and then demands me to battle it to see if i'm worthy.

This is it. I've got one chance to catch this thing and prevent the apocalypse. I lead with Susan and attempt to land a stun spore, but he uses fly. I switch to Sashimi to take the hit and get an intimidate off. It then kills Sashimi and i send out Kumohane. I mega evolve and hit it with a dragon pulse to weaken it. Then i toss an ultra ball its way and catch it. Sashimi gave his life to save the world, but we got it. I'll nickname this Rayquaza Ray. It's entering the party in place of the now deceased Sashimi. Higana then teaches Ray Dragon Ascent, so that it can mega evolve.

Higana then challenges me to a battle to see if i've truly mastered Rayquaza's abilities, before i head into space with it. She leads with Goodra and i lead with Ray. I mega evolve immediately and set up a dragon dance due to a missclick, then i take it down with dragonbreath. Tyrantrum is next and also dies to dragon breath. then comes Altaria, which dies to one dragonbreath too. Noivern comes out and dies. lastly, Salamence comes out and mega evolves, but it also dies in just one move. damn, this thing is OP. Anyway, it's time. I don the magma suit i used when taking down groudon as a makeshift space suit, then i ride Ray into space to take out the asteroid. However, after Ray destroys the asteroid, a strange being appears. Deoxys, i name it. it's hostile, so I send out Ray and take it down with a dragon ascent. the day is saved.

The next day, me and Brendan go to Mossedeep and have a field day at the space station. That night, it's time for the meteor shower. As we watch the meteors, i take some time to think about all the pokemon that lost their life throughout my journey through Kyushu.

Boet the Zigzagoon. Valiantly gave his life so that i could beat the first gym leader. RIP.

Ziggy the Zigzagoon. Your sand-attacks were pivotal in taking down Roxanne. Lost his life to a Voltorb i failed to flee from. RIP.

Zappa the Zigzagoon. You came in to replace Ziggy, but then you were felled by Brendan's Marshtomp. RIP.

Hongi the Gulpin. Was to be my 6th team member, but his life was tragically cut short by a Trapinch's Arena Trap. RIP.

Nanachan the cosplaying Pikachu. Joined us in Nagasaki and took part in many important battles, but then lost her life in a double battle. RIP.

Fuji the Camerupt. Joined on the slopes of Mt. Chimney and was pivotal in many battles, most notably against Flannery. Lost his life in that horrible battle against Winona and her Altaria. RIP.

Nogeen the Tentacool. You were one of many, but you still valiantly gave your life to give us the win over Winona. RIP.

Peeko the Pelipper. You played a pivotal role in all of the gym battles you were in. My victories against Roxanne, Brawly, Flannery and Norman are all on you. Lost his life against Winona and her cursed Altaria. RIP.

Abcde the Tentacool. was never gonna be worth much, but i still appreciate you sacrificing yourself to get the win on Winona. RIP.

Kojirou the Weezing. Came in to replace Hongi, but he never played a pivotal role until his death at the hands of Winona's blasted Altaria. RIP.

Anne the Anorith. Joined the team after the battle with Winona, but didn't last long. RIP.

Pop the Shuppet. Came in to replace Anne, but died in training. RIP.

Boe the Banette. Came in to replace Pop, and proceeded to play a critical role in several battles, most notably Tate & Liza and the final fight with Maxie. Lost his live to Wally's Mega Gallade. RIP.

Edo Jishin the sweet little Whiscash. joined my team when i got the super rod, and played a role in many battles. I'm sorry i couldn't protect you against Steven's Armaldo.

Benekiptus the Blaziken. My starter, you were with us from the beginning. You didn't do much in the final part of the game, due to all the water, but you were still an invaluable teammate. Lost his life due to my stupidity. RIP.

Sashimi the Gyarados. Came in after the battle with Winona, and played an important role in many of the battles that followed, most notably Tate & Liza, Elite Four Phoebe and Drake and the many fights against team Magma. Gave his life trying to catch Rayquaza to save the world. RIP

Special shoutout to Blargh, the little Dustox that could. I did not foresee an early route Bug becoming a key player, but you proved your worth in many of the early-game battles. too bad i had to replace you.

Chapter 4: X will start soon

Chapter 4: X

Rules for this game will be as follows:
  1. The challenge is complete once i've finished the Looker Missions
  2. If my first encounter in an area is a horde encounter, i may choose which of the mons to catch
  3. The Exp Share will not be used
  4. I will not use O-powers
  5. I don't have to fight sky trainers
This is not my favorite pokemon game (from what i hear, it's not really anyone's favorite) so i haven't replayed it much since gen 7 came out. as such, some of the rival fights might catch me off guard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the events at the Sky Pillar, i decide to study up on mega evolution, considering how important it was in saving the day. My studies bring me in contact with a certain Professor Sycamore in France - sorry, "Kalos" - who specializes in the topic. He invites me to come over to France to aid him in his studies. My mom decides to tag along, to relive her glory days as a Rhyhorn racer. Dad unfortunately has to stay in Kyushu for his gym leader duties. So i leave my pokemon behind and hop on a plane back to Europe. Unfortunately, i accidentally leave my keystone at home, so i guess i'll have to find a new one. We rent a nice little home in a place called Vaniville.

The next morning, my mom's pikipek brutally wakes me up. piss off, i have a jetlag, let me sleep. Ah well, i'm awake now, so i might as well get dressed and head downstairs. When i head outside, the neighboring kids are there to greet me; a guy named Calem and a girl named Sana. They take me through Route 1 to the next town over, where i meet two additional new friends, Trevor and Tierno. Tierno seems to be obsessed with dancing and Trever seems like a bit of a nerd. They decide that i need a nickname. Whatever. I'll let them call me Ashirin. Anyway, Tierno then pulls out a gift our group got from the professor; three pokemon to start our journeys with. Trevor and Tierno already have pokemon, so they don't need these. I get to pick first and i go with the cutie Fennekin, which i nickname Rin. Sana picks the Chespin and Calem picks Froakie. Trevor then gives me the pokedex that the professor also included with the gift.

I should probs head home to tell mom i'm going on another journey. As i head south, Sana decides to challenge me to a battle with our new mons. A few of Rin's embers take out her Chespin though. After that, i head home to tell mom i'm heading out. She gives me a map of the region so that i don't get lost. Eh, i explored all of Kanto without ever getting a map, so i'd probs have managed here too, but it's still nice to have. I head out, say goodbye to mom's Rhyhorn and head onto route 102, where i catch Kyne the Pidgey. a bit further on the route, Calem decides to show me how to catch a pokemon. Not only am i already the champion of 3 regions, i just fucking caught one on this route, but whatever, i'll let him have his moment.

I head on into the forest, where Sana catches up to me, and we decide to traverse the area together. I catch a Pikipek here and name it Honootori. I decide to level up Kyne a bit in this forest, then i proceed on. Eventually, me and my new friends reach the end of the forest and the entrance to Route 3. I catch Mamoru the Burmy here and then make my way through to Hakudan City. I decide to head for the gym, but before i can enter, some girl challenges me to a battle and offers me her rollerskates if i win. So i kick her ass to oblivion and back. Yay, i have rollerskates now. I love these things.

Anyway, gym time. This is a bug gym, but i only have 4 pokemon so it would be nonsensical to have someone sit this one out. The puzzle involves navigating a giant spider web. I eventually make my way through and challenge the gym leader Viola. She leads with Surskit and i lead with Kyne. We both resort to healing items, but i end up on top. Her other pokemon is Vivillon, so i switch to Rin. A few embers later and i've got my first French gym badge.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

decided to rename the thread. It's also no longer closed, so others can now comment. I can't guarantee i'll respond to those comments though.

I decide to go explore to the east, on route 22. Here, i catch a Psyduck, which i name Donald. The road ahead's blocked though. apparently, i'm not strong enough to handle what lies ahead. i singlehandedly stopped chairman rose, disbanded team rocket, calmed groudon, destroyed a meteor and became the champion of three regions, but sure, i'm not strong enough. whatever, i'll just go somewhere else. As i head north from Hakudan City, some lady gives me an EXP share. though just like in Kyushu, my mons won't hold it so i just throw it out. I then head onto route 4, a well-tended garden with flowers everywhere. I catch a Budew here and name it Buddy.

Just as i reach the entrance to Paris - sorry, "Lumiose City" - i run into two people looking for Flabébé. I've seen it, but i haven't caught one. They explain to me that it's a fairy type, the most recent type to be discovered. anyway, their names are Dexio and Sina, and they work for the professor. They offer to take me to the professor's lab; i'll finally get to meet professor Sycamore in person. that's not the only exciting thing though; i'm in Paris. the city of lights. the city of love. unfortunately though, there seems to be a blackout so i cannot currently visit the Eiffel Tower, so i just head for Sycamore's lab immediately.

I tell Sycamore all about my experiences with mega evolution and how it helped prevent disaster. He doesn't have as much hands-on experience, but still knows quite a bit about this subject and how it works. It's unfortunate that i don't have my keystone anymore, otherwise i'd give him a demonstration. At this point, Sana and Calem arrive, and the professor decides to challenge me to a battle to see how skilled i really am at pokemon and whether i can help him in his research. He leads with Bulbasaur and i lead with Rin. He goes down in two embers, and sends out his Squirtle next. I switch to Kyne and we exchange weak hits, but i take it out. Last is Charmander, for which i send out Donald. Two water guns later and victory is mine. He offers me one of the pokemon he used. I pick Bulbasaur and name it Fushi. The professor also gives me a Venusaurite, which i can use to mega evolve it once i evolve it into Venusaur and i find a new keystone. Trevor and Tierno then show up, and the professor asks all of us to help in his research on mega evolution. He sends us to Koboku Town to the southwest, to see if the people in the ancient castle there have any information.

When i head downstairs, i see a red-haired man have a discussion with Sina. He introduces himself as Lysandre, and rants a bit about how awful the world is. guy gives off serious Chairman Rose energy, but i guess i'll just ignore him. we all leave, but Calem says he wishes to talk to me at the Cafe Soleil, here in Paris. So i head over there, and we spot Lysandre talking to some lady. Calem tells me that Lysandre is the inventor of the Holocaster (a phone-like device) and this lady is Diantha, who's a famous actress. Lysandre seems to think that Diantha would hate that she's aging, but Diantha seems cool with it as it allows her to play different roles. After they leave Calem proposes to become my rival. sure, cool.

I leave the cafe and prepare to leave the city, but just as i do, i get a call from Tierno on my holo caster that he's on route 5, where i was heading anyway. in the gate leading there, some guy comes up to me and talks about something called o-powers, but i don't care. Outside the gate, a Lucario comes up to me; the owner says it likes my aura or something. she then introduces herself as Korrina, the gym leader of Shalour city. whatever. I catch a Skiddo here and name it Goht.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

As i progress through the route, Rin evolves into Braixen. This powerup will come in handy. She's also bipedal now for some reason. I then run into Trevor and Tierno. Tierno challenges me to a battle; he sends out Corphish and i lead with Fushi. He goes down in two vine whips though, granting me the victory. Trevor then gives me some honey for winning. i'll see whether i ever find a use for that. anyway, i'd best get on my way. Eventually, i get through the route and into the next town, where i get a call on my holo caster about how awesome its inventor Lysandre is. whatever.

I head into the castle here, where i run into Sana again. The castle seems to have fallen on hard times, and most of its belongings have been sold to the rich guy living up north. We learn nothing about mega evolution here though. Our tour then gets interrupted by a guy who tells us that there's a Snorlax blocking Route 7. We head there, but our friend from the castle recently sold his poke flute to the rich guy in the mansion north of route 6. Route 6 is a scenic route, with a well-maintained central path surrounded by unkempt wilderness on both sides. Along the way, Fushi evolves into Ivysaur. In the wilderness on this route, i catch an Espurr, which i name Maiq. This'll be my fifth party member. Kyne also evolves into Pidgeotto while i'm on this route.

Sana and I arrive at the big mansion, but the guy at the gates tells us we need to pay 1000 yen before we can enter. Sana gets outraged at having to pay that much. I'll agree that it's a bit steep, but i understand why this rich guy wouldn't just let anyone wander around his property for free. anyway, we pay the money and are let in. We find the owner in a room with a bunch of gold statues. This guy's wealth truly is obscene. He seems to be looking for his Furfrou, which has gotten lost. We decide to go look for it in his huge-ass garden, where eventually I run into it. It keeps running away, but eventually Sana and i trap it. The owner decides to throw a fireworks show in our honour.

I search the garden a bit and end up finding HM01 Cut, which i teach to Maiq. Then i head up to the balcony, where me and Sana share a lesbian moment looking at the pretty lights in the sky. Moments like this make all the journeying worthwhile. The place's owner then comes up to us to ask if we liked it, which of course we did. We then remember why we initially came here; to get the poke flute and move Snorlax from its place. The butler goes to get it for us. The butler can also tell us more about mega evolution; apparently it requires a strong bond between a trainer and their pokemon. not sure if my bond with Rayquaza was all that strong, but whatever. he also tells us you need a specific stone, which of course i already know.

We head back to where snorlax was and hand the poke flute to the guy from the castle, who plays it to wake up Snorlax. Snorlax becomes aggressive and attacks me, but i manage to catch it and name it Kabisha. I now have a full team of six. The rich guy then shows up and says the castle guy can keep the poke flute, as it's meant to be played rather than stuffed in a display case forever.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

As i proceed through Route 7, Trevor and Tierno catch up to me. They take me into a building on the route; a daycare for pokemon or something. Whatever, i don't care. I proceed a bit further and Trevor and i come across the Battle Chateau. I check it out and come across gym leader Viola. Apparently, this is a place where France's nobility gather. didn't know France still had a nobility; i thought they ditched that concept during their revolution, back around 1800. I hang around a bit and kick these stuck-up nobles' asses in pokemon battles, then i head on my way. Apparently i'm a viscountess now. whatever, like that title means anything. Liberté Égalité Fraternité, all that jazz.

At the end of the route, i meet up with my friends Calem, Trevor and Tierno. We decide to do a big pokemon battle where me and calem team up against trevor and tierno. I lead with Kabisha, Calem leads with Fletchling and our opponents lead with Pikachu and Corphish. I deal some good damage to the corphish but then i have to switch to Fushi. Fushi takes out Corphish, taking Tierno out of the battle. Pikachu then takes out Fletchling while i bring it to a sliver. Calem sends out Frogadier and we take out the Pikachu. Last is Flabebe, which goes down with no real trouble. we've won. time to head on.

I head on into the connecting cave, where i catch Batman the Zubat. On the other side, i find myself on Route 8, where i run into Dexio and Sina. They upgrade my pokedex with the coastal region, cause that apparently wasn't in there by default. Anyway, i catch a Drifloon here and name it 99. This place has a great view over the town below and the sea in the distance; i'd recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in France. There's also a ton of ledges here for some reason. I do a bit of training here, then i proceed through the route. Eventually, i make my way to Koujin Town, a cliffside beach town with a nice, big aquarium. Calem comes running up behind me, and talks about how we should talk to the people in the fossil research lab about mega evolution and mega stones. However, when we get there, we find that the lead researcher is out and about, collecting fossils in the Glittering Cave.

I head south onto Route 9, a rugged route that you can only traverse on the back of a Rhyhorn. Good thing my mom taught me how to ride these things. I catch a Helioptile here and name it KB.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

As i reach the end of the route, i leave my Rhyhorn behind and proceed into the glittering cave. I catch an Onix here, which i name Takeshi. This cave is a complex maze; i won't pretend i didn't lose my way. When i finally do reach the innermost part of the cave, i encounter some weird guys dressed in orange, calling themselves Team Flair. whatever, guess i'll dispose of these losers. Calem catches up to me just as i'm about to dispose of the last two, and we decide to do it together. A bit further, we run into the researcher, who doesn't even seem to have noticed the presence of team flare. He decides to offer us the two fossils he found. I go with the Jaw Fossil and Calem goes for the Sail Fossil.

I head back to town and revive my fossil into a Tyrunt, which i name Arlo. well, i will name it that once i get easy access to the name rater; there was no opportunity to name it when i got it. Anyway, we learned nothing about mega evolition here, so on to the next town. I head through the lower part of Route 8 and to Cyllage City. Before i tackle the gym here, i decide to check out route 10 to the north. There's a ton of interesting rock formations here, kinda similar to Stonehenge back home in Britain, which i unfortunately didn't get to visit on my travels. I catch Boris the Hawlucha while i'm here. I make my way through all the way to geosenge town, but the road ahead from there is blocked, so i decide to do some training for te cyllage gym.

When i'm done training, i head up the path to the gym and some guy approaches me. he talks about how he just won a bicycle race and got HM04 strength. He gives me this HM, which i can't use outside of battle until i beat the gym here. He then mentions that he's the gym leader here, and invites me to challenge him. so i go do just that. This is a rock gym, so Rin and Kyne will be sitting this one out. Instead i'll bring Mamoru the Burmy and Goht the Skiddo, as death fodder. The gym puzzle involves climbing along a central spire to reach the top. for someone like me who has a fear of falling, this is absolute hell. I end up having to sacrifice Mamoru against a gym trainer, so i replace him with KB the Helioptile. Eventually i make my way to the gym leader, Grant. He leads with Amaura and i lead with Donald. I get him to use his healing item while he paralyzes me and brings me to half health. the first water pulse after he heals confuses him, which is good. He hits himself, allowing me to finish him off. Grant's other pokemon is Tyrunt, for which i switch to Fushi. I set up a leech seed while he brings me to a sliver with rock slide. I switch to Kabisha and we exchange weak hits while i'm sapping his health. After a while though, i have to switch again. I send out KB, who dies to a crunch, after which i send out Maiq and fake him out, killing him.

It took two sacrifices to get here, but we have the second badge. I think i'll call it a day for now.

I head back north toward Geosenge, but along the way, i run into one of those team flair grunts. He talks about something that happened here 3000 years ago, but i don't have a clue what he's talking about. He then challenges me to a battle out of revenge for what happened at the glittering cave, so i kick his ass. he then tells me he got a different mission, and he fucks off. there's more grunts in the area though, so i dispose of them. In Geosenge, i also spot one of these grunts, so i give pursuit. Calem also shows up, and we pursue the grunt together. However, it seems he has gotten away. Since i'm here anyway, i might as well make a picture of myself with the town's iconic menhirs, but after that, i decide to go on my way.

As i head east out of town, Korrina and her two Lucario show up. Her lucario apparently want to fight me, so i accept. She sends out the first Lucario and i lead with Rin. Lucario heavily damages me, but i take it out with my fire moves. He leaves Rin with too little health to contribute against the other Lucario, so i switch to Fushi. I set up a leech seed while he sets up a power-up punch. He then goes for a swords dance while i miss with sleep powder. We both miss the turn thereafter, but a third sleep powder hits as he hits me with metal sound. I switch to Maiq and bring him to a sliver while he wakes up and hits me with another metal sound. i decide to switch to Kyne as the leech seed finishes him off. victory is mine. Korrina invites me to proceed on to Shalour City and challenge her at the gym, then she leaves in that direction.

I head onto route 11, where Maiq evolves into Meowstic. Nice; he was kinda lagging behind in terms of power, but i guess that's over now. I also catch a Sawk here, which i name Dashiro. I decide that this is a good place for some training, so i do just that. After my training, i head on and receive a call from professor Sycamore that he wishes to meet me in Shalour City. Said city is apparently connected to mega evolution. However, as i proceed through the route, something bad happens. In a sky battle, the opponent pulled out a fucking Emolga and killed Kyne with its supereffective moves. seriously, electric types should be banned from these battles. Rest in peace, Kyne. We'll miss you.

Taking Kyne's place on my team will be 99 the Drifloon. After i'm finished training 99 up, i head into the Reflection Cave, a beautiful cave with walls like mirrors, shiny enough that you can indeed see your own reflection in them. I run into a group of Mime Jr here. I catch one of them and name it Pipo.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

I think i'm updating my rules regarding sky battles. They only allow a specific subsection of pokemon in the battle, so if i have to fight all of them like the other trainers, that could mean that they'll form a roadblock if i have no flying mons left even if i do have other mons left that can still be used. for this reason, they will be excluded from my rule against skipping trainers. The chapter rules have been updated. and to those of you who think that this is just an elaborate excuse to not have to fight that emolga again, well, congratulations on being correct.

As i'm making my way through the cave, i run into Tierno, who gives me TM70 Flash. probs won't use it though. garbage move. anyway, 99 evolves into a Drifblim while i'm heading through the cave. which is great; some much-needed firepower. Eventually, i make my way to the other side and find myself in Shalour City. Here, Trevor and Tierno meet up with me again, and Trevor compares how many pokemon we've both seen in coastal France. I've apparently seen more. whatever. We then go look for the mega evolution guru that apparently calls this town home. I decide to go look on route 12, where i catch Tamago the Exeggcute. Nope, not here.

I decide to go check the big tower on the north end of town, when Tierno walks up to me. He found a pretty stone that he wishes to show me. I head into the tower, which houses a huge-ass Lucario statue. In the tower, i meet Korrina and the mega evolution guru, who is apparently her granddad. Trevor and Tierno arrive after me, and the old man takes notice of the stone Tierno gave me; seems it's a keystone. Sana and Calem then arrive at the door, so everyone's now complete. The oldtimer then explains to us how mega evolution works; it's akin to regular evolution, except it's only possible for certain pokemon that are already fully evolved. Unlike regular evolution, mega evolution is temporary and the pokemon reverts to its normal form after the battle. He then explains about mega stones and keystones, but i already know that from my adventures in Kyushu.

Unfortunately, we only have one keystone, so we'll have to do battle to decide who gets it. Trevor, Tierno and Sana opt out because they're shitty at battling anyway, so it looks like i'm battling Calem for this trinket. He leads with Meowstic and i lead with 99. I get the omniboost from ominous wind, which allows me to two-shot. Absol's up next, so i switch to Kabisha. Kabisha takes over half HP damage from a critical hit bite and also flinches, so i have to switch to Rin. Rin also takes over half damage, so i switch again, to Fushi this time. Fushi takes over half from a crit Slash, but instead of switching again i opt to use a super potion, then i set up leech seed. I put him to sleep with sleep powder, then i switch to Donald. A few water pulses later and he's down. Last is Frogadier, for which i'm switching to Maiq. I end up confused from a water pulse, so i have to send Donald back out. I manage to confuse him with confusion, but then i have to switch again, to 99. Frogadier kills itself in confusion, granting me the win and the keystone.

Korrina then tells me to come fight her at the gym, and everyone leaves the tower. Guess i'll go do the gym then. This is a fighting type gym, so Kabisha will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'll bring Takeshi the Onix, as death fodder. The gym puzzle here revolves around defeating all the gym trainers to clear a path to rollerskate to the gym leader. I eventually make my way to Korrina and challenge her. I lead with 99 and she leads with Mienfoo. She literally cannot hurt me, so i steamroll her with gust. Next is machoke, for which i send out Maiq and two-shot with Psyshock. Last is Hawlucha, so i switch back to 99. This one cannot hurt 99 either, so victory is mine after i bombard it with gusts. I know gym leaders like to focus on certain types, but Korrina literally only has one move on her whole team that can hurt ghosts. c'mon girl, don't let yourself get shut down completely by one type.

After the battle, Korrina asks me to come to the top of the tower of mastery, which is what the tower here in town is called. She wants to do a battle between trainers who can mega evolve. i don't currently have a pokemon that can mega evolve, but sure, i'll show up. On the balcony, i meet Korrina and her two Lucario. She gives me the mega bracelet to hold my keystone, and one of her Lucario comes to my side; it wants to join me. We decide to make it a 1v1 with just the lucarios, as they're the pokemon that'll mega evolve. As the battle starts, we both mega evolve our lucarios immediately and we both go for power-up punch. I outspeed and go for a second power-up punch, which wins me the battle. Korrina asks me to take this Lucario with me on my further travels; i accept and nickname it Aura. It will be taking Kabisha's place on my team; Kabisha has kinda disappointed so far.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

Rin (Braixen) lv 29
Fushi (Ivysaur) lv 30
Maiq (Meowstic) lv 30
Donald (Psyduck) lv 29
Aura (Lucario) lv 32

as i head east out of town, Calem runs up to me and gives me HM03 Surf, which I will need to traverse the next route. I immediately teach it to Donald and head on. On route 12, some guy decides to give me his Lapras, which i name Boot. Anyway, i proceed over the water. There's a Skiddo farm here, and they even let you ride them. This is so cool. I wish i could stay here all day and just play around with these little goats. But unfortunately, i have to get on my way toward the next town. As i explore the waters around route 12, i find myself in the Azure Bay. Here, i catch a Mantyke, which i name Ty. While i'm exploring here, Fushi evolves into Venusaur, letting me use its mega form. A guy here also gives me an Ampharosite, which i guess will be useful if i ever get an Ampharos. There's a cave here called the sea spirit's den, but i guess the sea spirit isn't home right now.

When i'm done in the Azure Bay, i make my way through route 12 to Coumarine City, a nice coastal port town. Upon arriving, i get a call from Calem saying that he wants to battle me. He's waiting for me in front of the town's gym. Before i get there though, a guy gives me the Good Rod. I discover that this city in fact has two parts, connected by a monorail. In the monorail station, i run into professor Sycamore and Diantha. The professor congratulates me on everything i've discovered about mega evolution. Diantha then suggests that mega evolution might be tied to France's legendary pokemon, which gets the professor thinking. The professor then hands me HM02 Fly, and he and Diantha leave.

I head up to the gym and Calem comes running up to me, challenging me to a battle. He leads with Meowstic and i lead with 99. He immediately sets up a light screen, so my ominous winds don't do a lot anymore. He barely does anything in return though, so i take him out. Next is Absol, for which i switch to Aura. Two Power-Up Punches and he's down. Last is his Frogadier, for which i send out Fushi. I mega evolve, but he confuses me with water pulse and i repeatedly hit myself in confusion, so i have to switch to Maiq, who takes him out with two psyshocks. Time for the gym.

This is a grass gym, so Donald will be sitting this one out. Instead, i'm bringing Takeshi the Onix, as death fodder. The gym puzzle involves climbing and swinging on ropes like some kind of Tarzan. I eventually make my way to the gym leader Ramos, and i challenge him to a battle. He leads with Jumpluff and i lead with Rin. He misses his first acrobatics and i get a crit on the second turn, taking him out. Next is Gogoat, for which i switch to 99. His only move that can hurt me is grass knot, which does next to nothing, so i eventually take him out while he wastes both his super potions. 99 is in no condition to keep fighting though, so for his last pokemon, Weepinbell, i switch to Maiq, who takes it out in one psyshock. the fourth gym badge is mine.

I think i'll call it a day for now.

As i head south out of town, i get a call from Lysandre, where he congratulates me on my discoveries surrounding mega evolution and tells me to use this to craft a better world. whatever. As i head south onto the route, Dexio and Sina come up to me. There's apparently trouble at the power plant on route 13. they're also updating my pokedex with data on the pokemon in eastern France, which is nice i guess. I head onto route 13, which is one giant wasteland. I catch a Dugtrio here, which i name John.

As i approach the power plant, i'm stopped by one of those Team Flare weirdoes. apparently they're up to their shenanigans here. After i beat him, he runs off but then shouts about how he's lost his entry pass to the power plant. I look around a bit and find it. you're not getting this back, buddy. time to go explore the plant. I discover that Team Flare has taken over the plant and is siphoning the energy away for something, causing the blackout in Paris. Donald evolves into Golduck while i'm taking care of these idiots. which is good; Donald was lagging behind quite far in power, now it'll be pulling its weight again. I eventually make my way through to the admin, a lady named Akebi, and challenge her to a battle. She sends out her mightyena and i lead with Aura. I mega evolve immediately and two-shot him with power-up punch, granting me the victory.

After i win, team flare leaves. Dexio and Sina then show up in dumb superhero suits, claiming they came to save the day. they thank me for taking care of everything and heal my pokemon. whatever. I'll just head back to Paris now through route 13. At the entrance to Paris, i come across a very big man saying something about a flower pokemon. doesn't really concern me though, so i guess i won't poke my nose where it doesn't belong. Anyway, the moment i set foot in Paris again, Sana comes up to me and tells me that we should head for the Eiffel Tower in the center of town. That does seem like a fine plan, so we head there. We spot the gym leader there, along with his little sister. Sana is apparently friends with the sister, so gym leader Clemont throws a special light show for us. Sana and i share another lesbian moment enjoying the beautiful view of this tower of light. This is so beautiful. if you ever find yourself in Paris, check out the Eiffel Tower, it's worth it.

I think i'll call it a day for now.
