Name the Odd One Out!

Qwilfish doesn't have sturdy as one of its abilities (also skarmory is the only one not in SV rip)

Wyrdeer
Sneasler
Overqwil
Annihilape

Annihilape is the only non-Hisui Pokémon and also is the only 3-stage evolution

Wyrdeer
Purugly
Tauros
Kangaskhan

Wyrdeer because it’s not Pure Normal type

Togepi
Jirachi
Golduck
Sobble

Jirachi is the only dual type here; Togepi has had its type changed

Qwilfish doesn't have sturdy as one of its abilities (also skarmory is the only one not in SV rip)
True. I was thinking Skarmory, because it is the only one that did not learn Spikes in GSC. (It wouldn't get Spikes until ADV.) I also considered adding Cloyster to the list but decided against it because, I don't remember why actually.

Poison

My original thinking was Purugly because it is not a ride Pokémon but you are still technically correct.

Cleffa
Seedot
Salamence
Porygon-Z

Salamence is the only dual type.

Power-Up Punch
Rage Fist
Sucker Punch
Meteor Mash
Sky Uppercut
Thunder Punch

Marowak's regional form does not share a type with its original form.

Rowlet
Piplup
Torchic
Quaxly

rowlet is a dual-type from the very start

jumpluff
delphox
skeledirge
shiftry

Jumpluff is also a dual type from the very start.

That is true. But me being me, I was thinking either Water or Ghost, for related reasons.

Water is the only type here to never have its relationships to other pre-existing types altered.
  • Bug and Poison used to be super effective against each other in RBY, but in GSC, their relationship was changed to what it is now (Poison resisting Bug and Bug being neutral against Poison).
  • Fire did not resist Ice in RBY. This was changed in GSC.
  • Prior to XY, Steel resisted Dark and Ghost. It now takes neutral damage from both types.
Ghost is the only type to have had its relationship with other pre-existing types altered twice. There's the aforementioned Steel nerf, but also, in RBY, Psychic was actually immune to Ghost. Evidence from the games and anime suggest this was an error, and this was rectified in GSC to make Ghost strong against Psychic. (Given that the only source of Ghost damage in RBY was the Lick, with its pitiful power and low distribution, I can see how this slipped through the cracks in development. Because of how set damage moves ignored the type chart in RBY, Night Shade still damaged Psychic types, for the same reason it damaged Normal types or the same reason Seismic Toss damaged Ghost types. Confuse Ray, as a status move, is similarly exempt from the type chart, even to this day.)

Whirlpool
Infestation
Drain Punch
Rock Smash
Mega Drain
Rock Tomb

Infestation is the only one that has never changed TM/HM numbers.

Smog
Thunder Wave
Focus Blast

Thunder Wave; it is the only status move here, the only move that does not have 70 accuracy, and the only move to have had its accuracy changed (from 100 to 90 in SM). I suppose Focus Blast is also an outlier in that it is the only move here that cannot inflict a status condition.

Drifblim
Wailord
Breloom
Lumineon
Swalot

Lumineon is the only one that doesn't have the fluctuating experience rate.

Dragonair
Pupitar
Clawitzer
Mimikyu
Drakloak

Mimikyu is the only one here to not have the Slow growth rate, instead being having Medium Fast.

Leaf Blade
Muddy Water
High Jump Kick
Mystical Fire
Volt Tackle
Crabhammer

Mystical Fire is the only one to be introduced in an even-numbered generation

Spore
Extreme Speed
Soft-Boiled
Waterfall
Megahorn

Mimikyu is the only one here to not have the Slow growth rate, instead being having Medium Fast.
damn this is even better than what I was going for: Drakloak being the only one not to have the serpentine body type

Mystical Fire is the only one to be introduced in an even-numbered generation
I didn't even think about that lol. I was thinking Volt Tackle, because it is the only one of these moves to still be a signature move, still being exclusive to the Pikachu family. Leaf Blade was once exclusive to the Sceptile line, Muddy Water to the Swampert line, High Jump Kick to Hitmonlee, Mystical Fire to the Delphox line, and Crabhammer to the Kingler line.

I had to look up the body shape thing. Pupitar, Mimikyu, and Clawitzer being classified as serpentine sure is a choice. (Clawitzer especially; you would think that the serpentine body shape class would be about not having limbs, but Clawitzer sure has limbs; in fact, you could say that one of its limbs is its defining feature. Why did it not get classified as insectoid like Clauncher?)

Oh, I guess I should actually answer the question you pose. All of these are different from the others in some way:
  • Spore is the only move here that can inflict a non-volatile status condition
  • Extreme Speed is the only move here with altered priority
  • Softboiled is the only move here that targets the user and the only one with a healing effect
  • Waterfall is the only HM move here - though not the only field move since Softboiled was useable as a field move until SM
  • Megahorn is the only move here that with less than 100 accuracy (Softboiled, like all moves that target the user, has perfect accuracy which is greater than 100)

Pinsir
Snorlax
Primarina
Drednaw
Glalie

Pinsir ?
It doesn't have a preevolution and it can't learn ice moves

Sylveon
Fennekin
Chespin
Froakie
Pikachu
Gabite
Skitty
Palkia
Bunnelby
Helioptile
Mewtwo
Crobat
Chandelure

Chandelure is the only one without a Bulbapedia article for a specific individual of its species in the anime. (there is no way this is the correct answer lol)

Fire
Ice
Ghost
Psychic
Dark
Bug

There's the obvious, Dark was the only type here not introduced in Gen 1.

Ghost is the only type with 2 immunities.

But I feel like you're looking for something a bit more obscure. Maybe Bug being the only type to have no TM's of its type in Gen III or something?

Possibly Ice, since Ice-types are consistently only found later in the game until around Gen VIII?

I also can't help but be amused that all of these types have had their relationships to preexisting types changed; Fire not resisting Ice in Gen I then gaining that resistance in Gen II, Psychic being immune to Ghost in Gen I (presumably erroneously) then made to be weak to Ghost in Gen II, Ghost and Dark being resisted by Steel until Gen VI, and Bug being both strong against and weak to Poison in Gen I. Ghost is the only type here to have had these relationships changed twice.

Or maybe it's about type matchups? Fire is the only type here to be strong against Steel and the only one to have never been resisted by Steel. Ice is the only type here strong against Ground or Flying. It's also the only type here with only one resistance. Meanwhile, Ghost is the only type here to be strong agaisnt itself, and Bug is the only type here to be neutral to itself.

There's also the fun trivia fact of Psychic not having had any of its pre-existing damaging moves change damage type with Gen IV's Physical/Special split, with all damaging Psychic moves that existed in Gen III remaining Special. (The only other type that shares this distinction is Fighting, with all damaging Fighting moves that existed in Gen III remaining Physical)

Pinsir ?
It doesn't have a preevolution and it can't learn ice moves
I was looking for Snorlax; it's the only one to have received more than one unique form of a generation's gimmick, having received both a signature Z-Move (Pulverizing Pancake) and a Gigantamax form. Pinsir and Glalie got Mega forms, Primarina got a signature Z-Move in Oceanic Operetta, and Drednaw got a Gigantamax form.
