POPULAR: Need a Name Thread

Let's bring this back! and not because I have a personal need for it right now *shifty eyes*

I'm looking for a new title for my Star Trek series. I used "The Expanse" as a placeholder because I was out of ideas and wanted to post it, but I never got around to thinking of something new. So far I've done very little expanding of the universe or exploration of expanses of star cluster. :p

I'm thinking of just naming it "Star Trek: 2392" to name it after the year it takes place, but it'll eventually move onto 2393 and 2394 (hopefully!), so I'm not sure if that's the best title. I'm not even sure which direction I'll be taking it; I'm not sure if I'm going to start some massive, pitched war, or bring about peaceful alliances or just delve into exploration of new areas.

I think the yearly-naming theme sounds good. Then you can just rebrand the story when the years go by, kinda like what Zekurom did with his (planned) fics.

In other news, I'm trying to think up a few names for some characters. I have three that I need names for.

The first is the main character. I haven't laid out a whole lot of the details of his personality yet, but I'll update you guys when I do. All I know is that he is a young adult male, who is intelligent and curious and seeks knowledge. He's frustrated with the intellectual stagnation of the post-apocalyptic (collectivist, or maybe dictatorial) state he lives in.

The second is the leader of a small resistance cell. He's rather distant and can be very strict, but he generally means well. He has a complicated (as in, brother who he betrayed type of thing) relationship with a government-employed security officer. He is also in an odd relationship with his first lieutenant, an acrobatic stealth fighter named Astrid. He acts as sort of a vigilante, undermining several of the government's operations in the name of justice and peace and whatever.

The third is the final male member of this five-man crew. He's physically unimposing, but shouldn't be underestimated in a fight. He knows how to take advantage of his height (or lack thereof :p). Despite this, he usually operates behind-the-scenes, having originally worked as a government-employed computer... uh... guy. He is also the one who is best qualified to operate heavy machinery and transport vehicles. He is also in a relationship with the very physically imposing Lena, who acts as a sort of weapons specialist for the group.

@Prof. Lugion;

Main character: What about Noel? It sounds similar as "know".

The resistance leader: Would Jack be a good enough name (sorry that I couldn't think of anything else)?

The 3rd character: "Little" John would be an idea (guess where I got it).

Anyway I'm need of another name. This time, I'm looking for a surname related to flowers, preferably a French one to a female character. Personality-wise, she's a sweet individual, but doesn't have any interest in any sort of activity related to Pokémon, though circumstances forces her to travel with the main character on a journey.

Thank you so much! I've had a sort of "creative vision" today concerning the main character, and your suggestion of "Noel"... Well, I think I'm gonna go with "Noah". Similar, but appropriate for what might happen.

For the resistance leader, I'm going to go with Peter, because it means "rock". I think it goes well with his unyielding nature.

"Little" John I'm not so sure about, but that's definitely something I'll take into consideration.

As for yours, my go-to feminine French name is "Marie". :p

Alright, good to hear you found some names. And thanks for the suggestion with "Marie".

I think this sounds like a good idea too lol! But you could also come up with another form of the title and still add the year on the end so that people understand the order and idea that the story is progressing forward and the manner in which it is.

The expanse is good, but maybe you could come up with a few things along the lines of Purity... ?

Maybe (now this is just off the top of my head but as a basis for thinking)

'Star Trek: Pure Exploration' (or any other sort of pun with the pure...?)

'Star Trek: Purity's Re-Birth' (punning on the ship and the rebirth of peace of pure relationships - or so it seems - after a ridden struck war) ?

For Poké Wars: Downfall of a Champion, I'm trying to come up with a name for a vehicle.

The vehicle itself is an APC-type vehicle that Volkner and his workers cobbled together from a 6x6 truck and spare structural materials.

Yes, it is armored; no, it does not carry weapons. It's basically a super-bulldozer designed to gain access to places where normal trucks can't get to; it's for repairing power lines, substations and other such infrastructure. It's equipped with two powerful manipulator claws and an arm equipped with a metal and rock cutting blade.

It's an amphibious 6x6 wheeled vehicle that weighs about twenty tons and also equipped with a wedge shaped hull that can be used as an ad-hoc battering ram.

Finally, it's electrically powered and capable of shunting electrical attacks into its internal battery.

I considered calling it the "Shieldon" heavy cargo truck, but honestly, after the modifications, it's more like an APC than a cargo truck...

The future version made by Dr. Kaminko is a straight-out, purpose built infantry fighting vehicle with heavier armor, 30 mm autocannon, 2x .50 caliber coaxial MGs, and a grenade launcher. Still has the 6x6 configuration, electrical drive system and power sapping capabilities. I'm considering calling it the M1512 Bastiodon infantry fighting vehicle. But Bastiodon's a primarily a defensive pokémon and this vehicle's a mix of offense and defense...

Maybe Torterra? Shieldon still works well in my opinion.

I've been having trouble with this fic that I'm planning, the fic is based on an idea that I've had for years now, but this is the first time I've actually decided on persuing it. The thing is that while I originally had the main character's name planned out I've been having second thoughts. The character is a take on characters with multiple personalities, he has two personalities, the basic good one and bad one personality. I wanted both of their personalities to have their own names though I wanted the names to be similar to each other in a way.

If I get far enough, it'll begin to be clear why I didn't choose these titles. :p

The thing is, I want to avoid something "dark" and edgy, because honestly that's not what the franchise is about (Are you listening, JJ Abrams?). I'll be dealing with that kinda tone a bit, much like DS9 did, but I still want to aim for something lighthearted as well. Choosing "Purity" as the ship's name pretty much barred me from using the usual Trek naming conventions, and anything else tends to sound silly. But I admit that I haven't tried everything.

Hmm interesting! I look forward to finding out myself then. It sounds like a really interesting idea you have, and so I'm interested to see here you'll go with the naming and also the reasons why you didn't go for anything with Purity as well lol :p

(And hopefully Abrams felt his ears burn lol)

Did you want them to rhyme? Like Red and Ted?

Or we're you looking to go a bit deeper than that?

You could have a normal name for the good personality, and then just have an edgy name for the bad one like: Dred, Shake, Dagger, Spike, Crank, etc.

Smeagol and Deagol? XD

Umm... Rob and Bob? Nick and Dick? (Okay maybe not lol)

I actually like the "edgy" name idea Akari came up with.

I think you could pull it off, but the rhyming name thing might be too cliche for a story about multiple personalities, no? Either way, Im sure it will be awesome.

Thanks!

I'll call the base truck the "Turtwig" heavy cargo truck, the modified version the "Grotle" off road cargo truck, the military version will be known as the "M1512 Torterra IFV".

If the personalities are opposites of one another, or at least very different, why not have a name that is another name spelt backwards? Like Kim and Mick. Can't think of any good such names though.
