New Gym Leaders and Elite 4?

What if they introduce new Pokemon in these versions?
Why would they want to ruin the remakes like that? Besides, this has nothing to do with this thread.

Why does adding new Pokemon automatically 'ruin' the remakes? If they were completely identical to the original games they'd be crap remakes. I'd encourage new Pokemon in the remakes, it'd increase buying incentive and if it was mostly Pokemon relating to previous Gens it'd make a lot of sense and would show GF was somewhat addressing the problem in D/P/Pt where half of the new Pokemon were prevos and evos of the past.

I don't like the idea of changing the leaders too much, but this thread gave an idea which may just be stupid.

Throughout the generations they've introduced a lot of battle styles. Currently, Hoenn is the only region with a non-single battle, that being Tate and Liza. What if more style were incorporated into other gym leaders? Someone mentioned Winona in a sky battle, that could be possible. Then I was thinking that another one could have a triple, someone else could go the rotation route, heck, am inverse gym battle could even be super cool. Not that if know who to get which style, but it could work... Or not, idk.

And for the record, Tate and Liza were treated as one trainer in gen 3, making it a double battle. I hope that in these games it's 2 desperate trainers, making it a multi battle. I could definitely see Tate with Solrock and gallade and Liza with lunatone and gardevoir.

And maybe Wallace and Juan could also do a multi battle, leaving Steven as the champion? Eh, idk.

I say it's likely all the Gym Leaders and Elite Four will stay the same. I hope Steven is the Champion while the Sootopolis Gym does an Opelucid in which you fight Wallace in one version and Juan in the other version. I honestly have no idea why Wallace was even made the Champion in Emerald at all, but it should stay Steven in OR/AS regardless.

Oh yeah - why haven't I thought of this? Wallace in Ruby and Juan in Sapphire maybe, and since both of them are contest masters, they'd be in contest halls in the version where they're not gym leaders :D

And I definitely want Steven to stay champion in ORAS. Maybe give him some new pokemon so he'd have an all-Steel team.

I would prefer for the gym leaders to stay, as I love the Hoenn ones! They're just so diverse. So much NOSALGIA!

I think all of the Elite Four should stay. The mechanics of the game have changed a lot since Gen III. It would great to see the original members there with updated teams (they ran a lot of multiples of the same Pokemon on their teams) within the updated mechanics. If I had to choose somebody I would opt for Wallace. I think he could go back and dedicate all of his time to contests. I would love to see Wally become the new champion.

I could see some changes in the Gym Leaders though. I've never cared for Roxanne, so she could go and be replaced with either a past rival like it was with Cheren. Wally should definitely have a higher position though, as that would be really nice.

The only thing about Gym Leaders and Elite Four I would like to see are their new fashion choices. The updates made for Gold and Silver's leaders are great, and some of them even appear a lot different than before (Sabrina). Some I could see with minimal changes like Roxanne and Flannery, but there could be some with a radical change like Sidney (I think he looks more like a Fire specialist than a Dark). Even in HeartGold and SoulSilver, fashion choices that didn't make sense (Pryce's tropical getup) make sense now (he wears warmer clothing now).

The thing I am most looking forward to is the leaders incorporating not only Generation 5 Pokemon like in World Tournament, but the Generation 6 one as well. So we could see Chandelure on either Flannery or Phoebe, or Noivern on Winona. It might only be done in rematches, though.

Thanks for reading.

I'm also expecting changes in outfits like HGSS. Phoebe should have different clothing too. I understand the warm climate, but a hula dancer being a Ghost specialist doesn't match ^^;

Are you referring to her HGSS redesign? Because I've always felt that was a reference to her arc in the anime where she normalized after meeting Haunter.

They're 99% gonna keep the same if it's a remake. If it's a sequel I can see a few changes with maybe you fighting the older ones later on in a normal battle.

What if the order is redone? And if Winona's Gym is a Sky Battle?

That would be horrible.

I'd like to see a few Gym Leaders bumped off, but hopefully appear as mini bosses or in a World Tournament type of deal.

So going with the idea of a re-imagined RS or a sequel (since its the only way I see a massive roster change), I'd like to see the current Elite 4 replaced or at least play some other role outside their positions since they were so boring.

Phobebe
Her grand parents are guardians of Mt. Pyre--I can see her being the guardian there instead of her grandparents. In a sequel, she replaces them due to old age and to better guard the Red and Blue orbs.

Drake
Remove him from Elite 4 and give him a pirate ship that explores Hoenn's seas, and the location of his ship changes randomly. Its not like RS wasn't bad with non-permanent locations with Mirage Island. Maybe make it so that Drake is looking for this island, and create a side quest that guarantees at least one free visit?

Brendan
If sequels, becomes Birch's official child, and a new gym leader--still upset that May's better than him. His side occupation is also being a researcher, and takes Birch's place as the one who gives you starters, with the story that Birch is going on an expedition in a faraway region (stronger hint to be the 'new region' mentioned by the Backpacker in Kalos) so he's taking care of the lab. You don't know he's a gym leader at first either.

May
If sequels, Norman's official child (they have similarly themed names in Japanese) and Champion. Let's not bother retreading on Red's story arc, especially when Steven has already played Hoenn's displaced Champion hiding in caves.

Liza and Tate
We find out that they have the same power as Inver and challenges you to a Double Inverse Battle.

Norman
Norman's gym originally had a theme to them that wasn't really obvious in battle. I think his new rooms should be as follows:
  • Double Battle Room
  • Triple Battle Room
  • Rotation Battle Room
  • Trick Room...room? (Singles; effects of Trick Room are already in play)
  • Wonder Room (Singles; effect of Wonder Room in play--imagine someone using Blissey)
  • Magic Room (Singles; effects of Magic Room in play)
  • Gravity Room (Singles; effects of Gravity are in play)
Norman will have a traditional Single battle against you. Given the complexity of the new gym, he's considered the final gym leader.

It's not a sequel, and I can't see them swapping out gym leaders and Elite 4 for anything less than that.

I like your idea for Norman having a set of rooms with different battle formats, though.

Unlike everyone here, I absolutely do not want Steven to be the Champion. He needs to be what he was in Emerald. The helping hand of the journey. The PC's mentor.

And I don't want the leaders to have this 3 Pokemon limit they've been given. Its a joke. Make it less of a challenge. Honestly Hoenn is one of the most challenging regions ever. I remember having so much trouble with the league when I was young.

If they were to make any adjustments, then I'd be more than happy to see Normal go. Most of the gym leaders and E4 members were forgettable to me, so I wouldn't mind if anyone got the cut... Just not Wallace/Juan. They were both so fabulous that they need to stay. ;~;

I'm also all up for upgrading their teams. Particularly Phoebe and Glacia. Seeing them using two of the same Pokémon made me cry.

Steven was one of the better champions with a good team, though. As long as Wallace isn't the champion AND Steven contributes to the story a lot, then maybe a new champion wouldn't be so bad. In fact, maybe Steven could retire from being a trainer all together, and actually appear as the new CEO of Devon. I mentioned this elsewhere, but maybe he would give us a bunch of gifts - maybe a Devon Pass or something that gives us access to Devon products for free or at least discounts. I mean, he's really fond of promising trainers with lots of potential - surely he'd be willing be our sponsor XD

Wallace and Juan can stay as gym leaders, but I won't be disappointed if they're replaced. They can still be involved with contests.

Tate and Liza... I like the idea of Double Inverse battles, but that would probably make 90% of us stumped at the 7th gym on our first try XD;

I don't think they should be replaced. It would be unfair, because we're getting a remake, and not a sequel like Black 2 and White 2. Imagine if they had done that with HeartGold and SoulSilver; people would have raged. I do, however, think that they should be given more personality, a backstory, because they were among the nullest, grayest, blandest and most irrelevant Gym Leaders and Elite Four EVER. They had so little depth one couldn't really tell they were battling a person who is supposed to be important in the games.

As for the difficulty, hell, even NOW, being 21, I still have some difficulties beating Wattson and Norman every time I start a new file. Wattson isn't very hard, I know, but somehow I'm always underleveled every time I reach him. Norman, well, has those f*cking Slakings of his that make my life miserable. Tate and Liza used to be hard for me as a kid because I didn't really understand Double Battles at that time, but now all I do is Surf my way out of the battle, like another user said. LOL.

That being said, I hope they get new teams, or at least bigger ones. Give Roxanne one or two additional Pokémon, and give Tate and Liza more Pokémon than just Solrock and Lunatone so one can't just Surf their way out like I did. You know, they had Claydol and Xatu in Emerald, too, but Claydol can also be beaten fairly easily with Surf.

I would like to see the Gym Leader/Elite 4 unchanged. Keep it how it was for the originals. Then in the post games, make Wallace the champion, Juan the 8th Gym Leader and Steven go MIA. You could rematch the Gym Leaders post game, so the Juan situation shouldn't be too much of a problem.

As for teams. Yes. They need to be changed. Especially Phoebe and Glacia. Give them both a Froslass if they need to, just make them diverse.

Two water specialists in the same region as 8th leader and champion seems like a waste though. If we're talking about diversity, then shouldn't there be only one of them in the game? That was one of the downsides of Emerald, imo.

I think phoebe and glacia shouldn't stay coz their pokemon aren't quite challenging enough and I can beat them IN 10 MINUTES when I play the original r/s

No, thanks. Phoebe should stay. Just remove one of her Banette, give her a Froslass, a Chandelure and evolve one of her Dusclops into a Dusknoir. Also, give Sableye a Mega Evolution and make her Sableye mega evolve during the battle. Not sure what they could change in Glacia's team (I don't even remember what her team was?).
