I've been thinking about Serena for a while, so I just came up with some move-sets for her team if they were ever to show up in the anime again.

Braixen:
-Magic Room
-Fire Blast
-Sunny Day
-Psychic

Pancham:
-Stone Edge
-Hidden Power
-Circle Throw
-Dark Pulse

Sylveon:
-Moonblast
-Misty Terrain
-Mystical Fire :wynaut:
-Misty Explosion

Now, I've never touched an actual pokemon game in my life, so I have a strong feeling that these move-sets are terrible, but eh. It's what I've got.

They haven't been gon for too long, but I decided to do some revamps on some of the Alolan Gang's Pokémon:

Mallow's Tsareena:

  • Trop Kick (signature move)
  • Magical Leaf -> Leaf Storm (an upgraded version of the move for long-ranged attacks);
  • Stomp -> High Jump Kick (better than Stomp and it already has in the manga, so...);
  • Play Rough (coverage);
  • Sweet Scent*

* ''Wait Enzo, 5 moves?" I wanted to keep Sweet Scent as a move she would only use out of combat, since it's been proven to come quite handy in Mallow's cooking

Lana's Primarina:

- Sparkling Aria (signature move)
- Icy Wind -> Ice Beam/Blizzard (IB since it's stronger, more precise than IW, Blizzard could work too since it's more visually close to IW than IB is)
- Aqua Jet (it's good to have a move it can use to mitigate it's poor speed and agility, specially while it's out of the water);
- Surf -> Moonblast (no need for 3 Water moves, plus Fairy STAB).

If May were to ever return, I'd like for some of her Pokemon to get new moves:
  • Blaziken- Blaze Kick, Sky Uppercut, Flamethrower, Brave Bird. Flamethrower serves as a stronger Fire-type attack than Fire Spin and can still work for the Fire/Water fusion. Brave Bird is extra coverage that I think could also be used for certain combinations akin to Dawn's Peck/Sky Attack fusion, not to mention it's a very imposing-looking move all on its own, so it would be interesting for appeals.
  • Glaceon- Shadow Ball, Mirror Coat, Freeze-Dry, Aqua Tail. Freeze-Dry serves as Ice STAB that gives Glaceon additional coverage due to its ability to hit Water-types super-effectively, while Aqua Tail is a move I could see working with the Fire/Water fusion combo.
  • Wartortle- Ice Beam, Rapid Spin, Water Pulse, Zen Headbutt. I gave Water Pulse to Wartortle mostly because with me giving Glaceon Aqua Tail I decided the turtle should have a different Water STAB move to differntiate itself. Zen Headbutt is because I think it would be interesting on it for appeals.
  • Venusaur- Petal Dance, Energy Ball, Earth Power, Body Slam. Revamping most of her moveset both to give her extra power and make it more interesting, so I gave her moves that I thought would be interesting to see be used in combinations and/or useful in the battle rounds. Petal Dance is the only move that stays because it was kinda her signature.
  • Skitty- Blizzard, Double-Edge, Wake-up Slap, Shock Wave. Skitty gets a mostly revamped moveset as well. Double-Edge serves as a stronger and more visually-interesting STAB than Tackle, Wake-up Slap similarly is a Double-Slap substitute that gives Skitty something to use against Rock and Steel-types, and Shock Wave is additional coverage that could work neatly in combos. I would also say that I'd like to see Skitty evolve.
  • Munchlax- Metronome, Solarbeam, Focus Punch, Giga Impact. Evole into Snorlax and replace Tackle with the last move. Tbh, I'm not sure what changes I could give May's Munchlax/Snorlax without making it too similar to Ash's, so it only got a stronger STAB.
Beautifly's last seen moveset I think is perfectly fine the way it is, so it's the only one who doesn't get any changes due to not really needing any.

Beautifly's updated move-set was a move-set done right; hallmark staples mixed with new moves to indicate growth as well as mastery over time, each of them shown to full effect during its reappearance. I love how explicitly impressed Ash was with it learning Aerial Ace given the amount of time he spent trying to teach his Swellow the move.

I love how explicitly impressed Ash was with it learning Aerial Ace given the amount of time he spent trying to teach his Swellow the move.
Not to mention a rare moveset with plenty of variety both visually and utility-wise: Beautifly had long-ranged Bug-type STAB, close-ranged Flying-type STAB, long-ranged Psychic coverage, and a healing move. Usually Pokemon movesets will forgo utility for visual variety or vice-versa (though the latter is much rarer), but May's Beautifly is an unusual case where both things managed to be present in a moveset, which is really nice to see.

Swellow needs a coverage move (and looking at its learnset made me realize how bad it is) so let’s give it Steel Wing. Facade is a definite and I don’t really think it needs Double Team, it’s already fast enough.

Swellow’s Moveset:
Aerial Ace
Facade
Steel Wing
Quick Attack/Double Team

Also always thought Talonflame should keep Quick Attack.

Talonflame never used Quick Attack, though. Probably because Flame Charge effectively served the same purpose, and with it being STAB I guess the writers saw no point in giving it Quick Attack as well.
Besides making it's speed go up every time it used it: Talonflame became even more of a threat each time it performed the move.

Giving Noivern a steel type move would cover all its weaknesses, though Steel Wing would be redundant as Talonflame already has it.

For Gible (evolved into Gabite):
Draco Meteor
Sand Tomb
Metal Claw
Bite

Like many of you, I also enjoy May's Beautifly's moveset.

As for Ash's team, I've also given this some thought over the years and here's what I've come up with:

  • BUTTERFREE: Bug Buzz, Aerial Ace, Psychic, and Quiver Dance; Ability: Compound Eyes
  • PIDGEOT: Aerial Ace, Double Team, Tailwind, and Mirror Move; Ability: Keen Eye
  • BULBASAUR: Sleep Powder, Sludge Bomb, Magical Leaf, and Frenzy Plant (if any pre-evolved Starter Pokémon could handle learning the most powerful Grass-type attack in the game, it's Ash's Bulbasaur!); Ability: Overgrow
  • CHARIZARD: Flamethrower, Dragon Breath, Steel Wing, and Seismic Toss (if I recall correctly, this is the same moveset he used against Noland's Articuno and Brandon's Dusclops); Ability: Blaze
  • SQUIRTLE: Ice Beam, Skull Bash, Brick Break, and Hydro Pump (I figure fighting those fires with the Squirtle Squad (and possibly joint training with Captain Aidan's Team Wartortle) might've taught Squirtle Brick Break, which he could utilize for breaking down doors along with Skull Bash); Ability: Torrent
  • KINGLER: Crabhammer, Mud Shot, Brick Break, and Hyper Beam (I don't remember why I chose this moveset, but it still looks okay); Ability: Hyper Cutter
  • PRIMEAPE: Bulk Up, Close Combat, Stone Edge, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Anger Point
  • MUK: Body Slam, Sludge Bomb, Dark Pulse, and Acid Armor; Ability: Stench
  • TAUROS: Take Down, Horn Attack, Zen Headbutt, and Giga Impact; Ability: Intimidate
  • LAPRAS: Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Dragon Pulse, and Safeguard; Ability: Water Absorb
  • SNORLAX: Rest, Body Slam, Ice Punch, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Thick Fat
  • MEGANIUM (evolved from Bayleef): Aromatherapy, Body Slam, Earthquake/Bulldoze (depending on whether or not I could get away with Earthquake), and Frenzy Plant; Ability: Overgrow
  • TYPHLOSION (evolved from Quilava): Swift, Aerial Ace, Smokescreen, and Eruption; Ability: Blaze
  • FERALIGATR (evolved from Totodile): Scary Face, Slash, and Hydro Pump; Ability: Torrent
  • NOCTOWL: Foresight, Sky Attack, Hypnosis, and Extrasensory; Ability: Insomnia
  • DONPHAN: Stealth Rock, Gyro Ball, Rollout, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Sturdy
  • LARVITAR: Screech, Hidden Power, Dig, and Rock Slide; Ability: Guts
  • SWELLOW: Aerial Ace, Double Team, Steel Wing, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Guts
  • SCEPTILE: Dragon Pulse, Detect, X-Scissor, and Leaf Blade; Ability: Overgrow
  • CRAWDAUNT (evolved from Corphish): Crab Hammer, Crunch, Swords Dance, and Iron Defense; Ability: Hyper Cutter
  • TORKOAL: Flamethrower, Iron Defense, Body Slam, and Sludge Bomb; Ability: White Smoke
  • GLALIE: Double Team, Ice Beam, Headbutt, and Hail; Ability: Ice Body
  • STARAPTOR: Quick Attack, Brave Bird, Close Combat, and Steel Wing; Ability: Intimidate
  • TORTERRA: Wood Hammer, Earthquake/Stone Edge (again, whether or not I could get away with Earthquake), Synthesis, and either Rock Polish (which would speed up Torterra, something I think Ash would likely do) or Stealth Rock (if Ash ever felt the need to use field moves); Ability: Overgrow
  • INFERNAPE: Dig, Mach Punch, Flamethrower, and Acrobatics; Ability: Blaze
  • FLOATZEL (evolved from Buizel): Aqua Jet, Ice Punch, Razor Wind, and Bulk Up; Ability: Swift Swim
  • GLISCOR: Fire Fang, Giga Impact, Stone Edge, and X-Scissor; Ability: Hyper Cutter
  • GIBLE: Dig, Sandstorm, Flamethrower, and Draco Meteor; Ability: Sand Veil
  • UNFEZANT:
* OSHAWOTT/DEWOTT/SAMUROTT:
  • PIGNITE/EMBOAR:
  • SERPERIOR: Attract, Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, and Dragon Tail; Ability: Overgrow
  • SCRAGGY/SCRAFTY:
  • LEAVANNY: Leaf Blade, X-Scissor, Slash, and Sticky Web; Ability: Swarm
  • SEISMITOAD (evolved from Palpitoad): Hydro Pump, Sludge Wave, Supersonic, and Drain Punch; Ability: Swift Swim
  • BOLDORE/GIGALITH:
  • KROOKODILE: Dig, Stone Edge, Dragon Claw, and Aerial Ace; Ability: Intimidate
  • GRENINJA ↔ ASH-GRENINJA: Water Shuriken, Double Team, Aerial Ace, and Night Slash; Ability: Battle Bond
  • TALONFLAME: Brave Bird, Double Team, Flame Charge, and Steel Wing; Ability: Flame Body

  • GOODRA: Rain Dance, Bide, Dragon Pulse, and Ice Beam; Ability: Hydration
  • NOIVERN: Supersonic, Acrobatics, Boomburst, and Dragon Claw; Ability: Infiltrator
  • ROWLET:
  • LYCANROC:
  • INCINEROAR:
  • MELMETAL:
  • NAGANADEL:

While I tried to make most Pokémon more well-rounded, I also attempted to keep them "in character", which is why some of them might have redundant or less-than-optimal moves (including multiple Hyper Beams—although my version of Ash's teammates don't all have the technique unlike my version of Lance's team!—as well as Aerial Ace, Flamethrower, Steel Wing, and Double Team moves which are quite common in the anime). I also haven't quite flushed out Ash's remaining Unova Pokémon or his Alola Pokémon, and with his Journeys, err, journey still ongoing, I'll save those until the end.

I've also got some movesets for some of Ash's friends, rivals, and acquaintances:

  • Misty's PSYDUCK: Disable, Fury Swipes, Psychic, and Scald (created before Misty and Psyduck returned in S/M, my thought was that Psyduck finally mastered a Water-type technique...unfortunately for Misty, that move was Scald, which as soon as that scalding hot water leaves Psyduck's mouth, it burns itself as well!); Ability: Cloud Nine
  • Brock's STEELIX/Mega Steelix: Stone Edge, Earthquake/Dig (again, see my Ash team for the reason(s) why Earthquake may or may not be used), Dragon Breath, and Iron Tail; Ability: Sturdy (Sand Force when Mega Evolved)
  • Brock's GOLEM (evolved from Geodude): Rock Polish, Stone Edge, Earthquake/Gyro Ball, and Mega Punch; Ability: Sturdy
  • Brock's Alolan GOLEM: Stealth Rock, Thunder Punch, Rock Slide, and Heavy Slam; Ability: Sturdy - plus, ever since the Alolan variants showed up, I thought for sure Brock would be the type of Gym Leader to use the two distinct Geodude/Graveler/Golem along with Onix/Steelix on his team).
  • Brock's SWAMPERT: Brick Break, Rock Slide, Ice Beam, and Hydro Pump/Hydro Cannon (this last move's a flip flop for me, because as a fully-evolved Water-type, it'd be just like the anime to show off the power of Hydro Cannon, although Brock may end up content with Hydro Pump); Ability: Torrent
  • Brock's BLISSEY (evolved from Chansey): Rock Slide, Egg Bomb, Zen Headbutt, and Softboiled; Ability: Serene Grace
  • Tracey's SCYTHER: Swords Dance, Double Team, Slash, and X-Scissor; Ability: Swarm (which, due to Scyther's advanced age, is always active).
  • May's BLAZIKEN/Mega Blaziken: Aerial Ace, Blaze Kick, Mirror Move, and Sky Uppercut; Ability: Blaze (Speed Boost when Mega Evolved)
  • Dawn's PIPLUP: Hydro Pump, Drill Peck, Ice Beam, and Aqua Ring; Ability: Torrent
  • Dawn's LOPUNNY (evolved from Buneary): Bounce, Dizzy Punch, Ice Beam, and Giga Impact; Ability: Cute Charm
  • Jessie's ARBOK: Gunk Shot, Crunch, Dragon Tail, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Intimidate
  • James' WEEZING: Sludge Bomb, Smokescreen, Dark Pulse, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Levitate
  • Gary's BLASTOISE/Mega Blastoise: Skull Bash, Ice Beam, Flash Cannon, and Hydro Cannon; Ability: Torrent (Mega Launcher when Mega Evolved)
  • Gary's UMBREON: Double Team, Shadow Ball, Psychic, and Dark Pulse; Ability: Synchronize
  • Gary's ARCANINE: Extreme Speed, Dragon Pulse, Wild Charge, and Flare Blitz; Ability: Intimidate
  • Gary's ALAKAZAM: Calm Mind, Disable, Drain Punch, and Psychic; Ability: Synchronize
  • Gary's PIDGEOT: Aerial Ace, Feather Dance, Mirror Move, and Steel Wing; Ability: Keen Eye
  • Paul's TORTERRA: Giga Drain, Stone Edge, Crunch, and Frenzy Plant; Ability: Overgrow
  • Paul's ELECTIVIRE: Brick Break, Giga Impact, Protect, and Thunder; Ability: Motor Drive
  • Barry's EMPOLEON: Drill Peck, Flash Cannon, Grass Knot, and Hydro Cannon; Ability: Torrent
  • Lance's DRAGONITE: Safeguard, Hurricane, Draco Meteor, and Hyper Beam; Ability: Inner Focus
  • Lance's CHARIZARD/Mega Charizard X: Flamethrower, Air Slash, Dragon Claw, and Hype Beam; Ability: Blaze (Tough Claws when Mega Evolved)
  • Lt. Surge's RAICHU: Thunder, Double Team, Body Slam, and Focus Punch; Ability: Static
  • Roark's ONIX: Double-Edge, Stealth Rock, Screech, and Stone Edge; Ability: Rock Head

Anyways, that's what I've got so far. Let me know what you think.
