my bad, not the trainers themselves but their Pokemon were highly implied to be in the opening as pikachu used thunderbolt on them

The only TS Pokemon was Sandelite. Even then it could've just as well been a wild one since those have caused trouble too.

There was also a Gumshoos in the shot, which was used by Zipp in the first episode, and then the Alola Rattata which was used by a random grunt in one of the Illima episodes. Im pretty sure it was implied they were team skulls Pokemon?

The title looks very inspiring. Hopefully they don't hold back on showing secondary characters this time, now that Misty & Brock are among them! A new ending will likely be announced soon.
