I don't understand the purpose of this episode: Serena isn't going to ve a racer, why have an episide about Serena getting serious at racing?

Also I think that the writers are trying to give Serena many episodes to make up for being useless during more than 30 episodes. And even though it's almost impossible to know, it looks like the staff was lazy about Serena; they noticed it and they want Serena get the development now.
