Re: Gen V Starter Discussion

Alright.
What do you guys think the likelihood of them having an electric, ghost, or dragon subtype this time around?

Dragon? No. That would make that one too unbalanced next to the others. Ghost? I could see that. Electric? Maybe.

Re: Gen V Starter Discussion

We could have steel, dragon, and ice as subtypes.
Steel resists dragon, and ice is super effective against dragon.
Dragon really would not need the type advantage, because lets face it, it's dragon.

A good signature move for a fire boar could be blaze charge or something. Like flame wheel, only useful. Light it up and let it loose.

As it's been said before, having a dragon type starter isn't even fair, due to the fact that it only has 2 weaknesses. Ice and dragon don't appear until late in the games, so your starter would be near invincible.

I'm hoping it's rabbity, not piggish, honestly. I'd like to get a really nice cute rabbit starter.

Starters are coolsticks. I hope they incorporate some way to get the other two after the E4, or something like that. I'd hate to have to start be denied my grassbird after dominating with fire-piggy (hereafter called BACON)

I know! I can never get all three starters from that region into one game.

YEAH! Or, like, Fire Stampede! Or ummm TRAILBLAZE!!!

I'm lovin' the possibility of Bacon being my starter.

Peacock thing could have something akin to petal dance, but with its crazy feathers.. like Dazzle Leaf or something.

And the water creature... ummm.. Surf 2.0.

Left: When I first saw it, I thought celebi head. But now I'm leaning more towards a bird with a leafy tail.
Middle: I'm thinking fire rabbit, not a pig.
Right: Water platypus.

I don't think they would ever do that with starters. It made sense you could get older starters in HGSS because they weren't readily available in other ways at least in gen 4 games. Being only able to get one starter enables trading, which has been a foundation of the game since the beginning. Also encourages purchasing more games.

Re: Gen V Starter Discussion

I hope they change the grass starter to where it has vine whip and improve how it works in the game. But for the fire starter its first move will probably be ember and the water one may have water gun first.

Re: Gen V Starter Discussion

Well except for the silhouette to the left, I really can't see any of them being dragon.

That said I don't see what's wrong with a grass/dragon, it does fit the whole 4x weak against ice thing, Gamefreak has got going on (except Kingdra and the non dual typed dragon types). And before you argue, could honestly say that having a level 36 dragon type would be broken. Surely you would've ran into something strong against it by then. Oh and assuming I'm not wrong. Grass/Dragon would be weak against flying, and you'd definitely run into a flying type really early.

As for movesets, I'd like to wait until I see them, but honestly I want those weak pesky attacks to be gone. I'd much rather they know something (useful), yes I know it's for beginning trainers in the beginning balance thing. But I'd like to see elemental tackles (maybe slightly more powerful) for them.

And would it kill them to give at least one starter a special weak attack (if not all 3)?

The only way I'd like weak attacks, is if they are at level 1. But at level 5 they should know something decent (and by that I mean a STAB move). It's times like this that make the anime look superior, because who knows what moves starter Pokemon have in the beginning on there.

But special/physical unique weak STAB moves from the start should be mandatory.

I kinda like this idea for a grass starter bird

I know it's fake, but it's just an idea.

I like this... I like this alot. I like the idea of how they had a hummingbird evolve into a peacock... keep in mind that Remoraid evolves into an octopus people, so I see this hummingbird --> peacock idea totally doable.

Re: Gen V Starter Discussion

I've seen so many fan drawings of all three starters unsilhouetted that I got burned out. And I was hoping I wouldn't see any fan drawings, but I lingered too long on places where I suspected they would be.

PLEASE, POKEMON COMPANY/GAME FREAK/WHATEVER, GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE! PUT THE B/W MASCOTS IN SILHOUETTED FORM!!! (Or better yet, just show us. It's okay...)

Fire type pig in the middle? You guys are crazy. Flying grass bird on the left? Pshhh. I totally view it as:

(Crappy drawing/painting/alteration, I know, but you get the general idea.)

I must say, that one is pretty clever...

Where do you think I got it?

Also, there's some potential rumors going around that the starters will be a grass Donkey, water Swan, and fire Tiger.

I think the silohuettes kind of disprove that, don't they? Unless we've gonna have bipedal donkey/tiger.
