Ash hasnt released a Pokemon since the Orange Islands...they aren't going to start going on one again and start releasing Pokemon pointlessly

Charizard and Squirtle both got 'released' in Johto Journeys. Misty even released Togetic in Advance Challenge, though most see that one as for the best.

Charizard and Squirtle are the same thing as all his Pokemon at Oaks. A released Pokemon is something you give away forever.

He hasn't released one since Lapras, (unless you count the Beedrill he gave to Casey).

You think getting chased by Beedrill countless times would have made him keep the thing. Maybe as a way of talking it out with them. XD
