Title says it all.

We got Fairy last gen. Sure, new types don't happen often, but we see that GF is willing to break traditions now. So why not?

Also, "Sun and Moon"? You mean like "Light and Dark"?

Let the Light type theories be revived. (Maybe that's why they have those little revives in the Japanese logo </forced joke>)

Dark type was not 'Dark' in Japan though. In Japan its the Evil type. A light type would not be opposing to it like it would darkness. If anything, I consider Fighting to be the opposite of Dark. Like Heroic vs. Evil. And Fairy being 'good' also a opposition to the Evil type. (Bug-type being strong against Dark... you got me there.)

I doubt there will be a new type, honestly.

ahh yes, I can't believe I forgot about that. I used to make that argument against the light type when people proposed it last gen. *sigh*

Dark needs an advantage over an additional type. Something to separate from Ghost offensively.

I still see Fairy and Light as opposite to each other, in my opinion, although they have some similarities, I'll admit. Fairy-types can be mischievous, while Light-types could be pure-hearted beings (in my definition of the Light-type.)

For Fighting and Light, I know that they have the same concept, which is fighting the evil (which is the embodiment of Dark-type in the main series,) but Fighting-types are Pokemon who specializes in having a certain type of Martial Arts, hence Fighting (and Fairy-types are, of course, fairies,) while Light-types could be holy and angelic Pokemon species (again in my definition of the Light-type.)

While certain Dark-types such as Sneasel and Purrloin are associated on doing bad things such as stealing, Darkrai, on the other hand, is mostly-associated on Darkness (correct me if I'm wrong though.)

I'm one on the minority or 1% who still hopes Game Freak to add Light-type to the type chart of the main series games, and Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon gave me another hope of them introducing the Light-type if the theme of the games will be about Light and Darkness (although it's 80% unlikely for me, it is still possible); and I know that Light and Dark is already a very cliched concept when it comes to video games, but I think Pokemon can still use it and execute it very well, and I still want to see holy and angelic Pokemon species, which would be perfect for the typing. I do not want to start a discussion anyway, just shared my thoughts.

My speculation for now is the Sun Mascot Legendary Pokemon will be Light/Fire and the Moon Mascot Legendary Pokemon will be Dark/Water.

Then Ghost would be weak offensively because Dark does everything Ghost does and more. Separating Dark and Ghost is going to be tricky, they'll need two separate types for them to be good against.

I really don't think we're getting a new type. The types seem fairly balanced right now, aside from some minor tweaks. I think they could do some minor tweaks to the type chart, like removing Fairy's resistance to Bug or having Ice resist Ground and Water, but if we're seeing anything it probably won't be beyond that.

i don't think there'll be a new type. they might throw in another weakness for Fairy or remove one of its resistances, but i don't see them creating a new type to check it or any other type.

I think one new type was good enough for now. Everything seems to have balanced out.

And Fairy being 'good' also a opposition to the Evil type.
I run with the Fridge Brilliance that TV Tropes points out to us, that Fairy and Dark are two sides of the same coin - underhanded and/or ulterior motivation, just that Fairy does it by concealing this nature and Dark is open about it.
(Bug-type being strong against Dark... you got me there.)
Think about how many times the bad guys call the heroes "little pests" among other similar phrases! They see the heroes as nothing more than bugs to be squashed, and as it plays out in typical fashion, the heroes win!

Oh I LIKE that. Yes. That works perfectly. Thank you. I now have a way to remember this type weakness.

Out of all people I would have thought you would mentioned the Kamen Rider explanation.

more possible or probable would be pokemon now to have and use 2 of their abilities at once in battles.
Imagine Heracross with Guts and Swarm at once, or Moxie and Swarm.
(that would make some things more easy but would change other)
(Lunastone+Skill Swap=zero levitate; or change skill swap a little.)

I will be honest, I forgot about that because I'm mostly used to Heisei Riders. The ones I've seen aren't all immediately obvious on their insect motif (and no, I have not seen Kamen Rider Kabuto outside of Decade). That being said, yes, you do bring up that good point - the original Double Riders were grasshoppers. (And the as-of-current Rider, Ghost, is a firefly!)

I think we've all considered a Sound type, but it's maybe not an idea with much potential. Honestly, new types in general don't really appeal straight after fairy.

On a vaguely related note, the only 'type triangle' that doesn't have fire, grass or water in it is Fighting/Flying/Rock. I'd like to see that used somewhere, in the starters or something, since I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned.

Please for the love of god now new types Fairy was a terrible and simple minded aproach to balancing out dragon. "All the them have high stats though" so do all the legendaries and pseudo legendaries that aren't dragon. Yes I was opposed to the idea of normal specialist teams now longer fitting their specialty from the beginning. Give ice a resistances to 2 or 3 of these for types electric, ground, flying and fairy. Speaking of fairy get rid of it's bug resistance.

As for the concept of light type itself I think it shouldn't be a type since the series now puts divinity as something meaningful outside of the mortal plane of type relations. By quantifying it kinda ruins it punch lorewise.
