This is interesting, remind me of the Gameboy Advance in its non-clamshell design.

They probably made it cause parents were complaning of how 3D kills your eyes and stuff. I'll keep my newly purchased 3Ds, thank you very much.
Or because dropping a DS/3DS can break the hinge off.

I doubt Nintendo would even design something uncomfortable in the first place. If it indeed turns out to be super uncomfortable to play with, like many are worried about, then this will be a highly disappointing feature coming from a veteran game company with experience well over 20 years.

A handheld that's uncomfortable to play with? That's unthinkable. How could they call themselves professionals if the handheld they designed were to be uncomfortable?

Rest assured, I firmly believe it won't be uncomfortable as it may look.

one major flaw im seeing is that sure mario kart plays fine, but with that button layout i dont think games like metroid prime hunters or kid icarus uprising which are played with a combination of buttons and touch screen simutaneously would be comfortable.

maybe it might work better for those games placed flat on the table while playing? maybe thats why its thicker at the top

Watch trailer before you pass judgement on it as its surprisingly usable and portable for both kids and Adults

note that there was never a simutaneous use of touch screen and buttons in the video which is the issue im raising, they just played mario kart and animal crossing

I personally like the 2DS, even if I have a 3DS already. Me and others I know don't use the 3d effect often (mainly because you have to look at it straight on, hurts your eyes after a while.), and the 3DS (In my opinion) is easily breakable at the hinges. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't seem to be as portable.

Re: Nintendo 2DS announced for October release: Cheaper Nintendo 3DS without clamshel

I remember when the Gameboy Advance SP was announced.

"What's Nintendo thinking?"
"Only a little japanese person would be able to use that tiny thing!"
"how will anyone be able to use the L and R buttons?"
"WTF you can use AAs? What kind of crap is that?"
"the lid will snap off!"
"it looks like a fake toy cell phone!"

Ahh, those were the days.

Haha, I guess I wasn't one of those people. I loved the GBA SP! Even more over the GBA.

But honestly the 2DS is a great idea! It's cheaper and is coming out at a good time for people who want to buy Pokemon X/Y who don't have a 3DS and can have more of a chance buying a cheaper system then paying a lot more for a 3DS. I got no problem and I think Nintendo knows what they're doing. I have a 3DS and I can't wait for Pokemon Y to be released!

Thought I'd drop this video here. It's an interview from Polaris with Corey Olscvary Ker, Product Marketing Specialist for the 2DS:

Re: Nintendo 2DS announced for October release: Cheaper Nintendo 3DS without clamshel

I still don't really care for the 2DS, however my only real gripe with it is the price actually. I think a flat $100 (99.99) would be a much better and smarter price, including for Nintendo. A flat 100 dollars would sell far more units far faster. Honestly, I'd buy one if the price dropped down to $100. Otherwise, I'll probably get an XL.

I do already have an original 3DS, but it's not in the best condition. Not necessarily by my fault though. Mine is one of the originals with the screen defect (the bottom screen scratches the top screen due to a defect in the upper screen padding, it was fixed a few months after release). Also, my L and R shoulder buttons aren't always really reliable (if you use them off and on a lot, I've always seen that mine slowly start having issues).

I'm happy with my 3ds but i think the 2ds is gonna be pretty cool.
