Old story is old.

Anyway, the confusion is entirely their fault, no one in their right mind would call a product "New 3DS". The customers shouldn't have to suffer for incompetent marketing.

if they don't want to confuse consumers, they should come up with better names for their systems

All they did was just call Americans stupid

It's less confusing for consumers who don't like the XL but want a superior product.
Cos now instead of wondering whether I should import a US N3DS now or save up, I can easily say no, I'll wait for NoA to stop being stupid and release the one I want.
Congrats on making it easy for consumers to decide not to spend any money Nintendo

I think we will have the basic New 3DS by the end of the year in america though because all they have to do to end confusion is end production of all the original models minus the 2ds to ease confusion

I don't see how having the new 3DS and the new 3DS XL would be any more confusing than the regular 3DS and 3DS XL.

Although a good chunk of people I see want the regular new 3DS because of the faceplates, and I honestly don't think that would end up better than how amiibos did.

The only confusing thing that I see here is his excuse for not selling the regular New 3DS first before the XL. But, I ain't a so-called "marketing expert", so what do I know? :p

They just can't admit that they have terrible distribution in general, and probably wouldn't find it marketable to sell face plates across such a wide dispersed region.

@AgentRosa;
It would be terrible marketing to release the New 3DS, and then unveil a bigger version of it after people had already spent money. Even from just a selective sample on this forum, we can see that there are clear preferences to the size of the 3DS vs XL models--people with bigger hands gravitate towards the XL because it is more comfortable, while people who's hands are smaller find it cumbersome.

Why they couldn't give the big XL model customizable faceplates is beyond my understanding--unless the sole reason is so they can gouge our wallets by releasing limited edition New 3DS XLs (probably not as catchy with limited edition faceplates)

They should've said nothing and saved themselves the humiliation of spouting complete nonsense.

My guess is that if the XL did have custom faceplates, they'd need to produce both regular-sized and XL-sized face plates, and they viewed that as too resource-intensive (for a video game company, at least).

And making two models, one with face plates, isn't? Yes, there are people with preferences on 3DS size, but given the hardware differences, I'm sure that if they just released the XL model everywhere they'd come up with similar sales figures without anyone knowing what could have been

It's their fault it's named the "New 3DS" because this problem wouldn't have happened had it been called something else like the "3DS Neo" or something similar.

I never said it wasn't. Making the new 3DS XL have faceplates would add to the resources needed, since a bigger model obviously would require bigger faceplates than the smaller model. That would mean three things are using shelf space - the new 3DS faceplates, new 3DS XL faceplates, and amiibos. amiibos already have complaints about their limited availability thrown at them (at least in America; not 100% sure on the situation in Japan). Having one faceplate sharing the shelf space would make the problem worse, with the added problem of having the faceplates be blasted for being too limited.

Some amiibos are intentional in short supply because there are some that were manufactured with the ideas of limited quantities in mine
