Spoilers Official Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee Discussion Thread

I don't ever want microtransactions in the main series.

Whilst on the subject, I can't see micro transactions being a thing for any Pokemon game that isn't F2P. We're paying console level prices for these games, and there's no reason why Gamefreak needs to insult their fanbase or their core series games with micro transactions.

Just to be safe, you should tell everyone again one more time. Someone may have missed every other comment you left.

Sadly, some companies have started adding microtransactions in their full-price console/PC games. It is not getting those companies a good reputation, but they're doing it nevertheless.

Recently Reggie said in an interview that lootboxes (essentially the absolute worst kind of microtransactions) have gotten too bad of a reputation, and that he is open to the idea of seeing them in Nintendo games. Seeing as they've been present in Nintendo's mobile games for years, he's talking about console/handheld games. Sure, right now, he says "if there's another way to get those items", but that's how it always starts. Nintendo also said that they would never do paid DLC and turned around and did it with FE:Awakening immediately after. What Reggie said here is very scary.

I have noticed the psycho-manipulative effects microtransactions have in many games... And they are very strong on a specific mindset of people. Much of it is reminiscent of gambling, too: In fact, the origin of the term 'whales' actually came from "high rollers" - casino players who would bid tons of money on low odds. Gambling addiction is a truly scary and exploitable thing - and it's quite amazing that this happens in games, which have only self achievement as a return rather than money.

Loot boxes are the scariest of them all - and received the biggest backlash of recent times. I think that Star Wars Battlefont II, a 60 dollar game introducing them, was so badly struck down by the playerbase, that they gilded an AMA comment on Reddit of an EA rep receiving tens of thousands of downvotes. Disney, the owner of EA also came in to remove the loot boxes, noticing ethical concerns.

Now, if Game Freak even thinks about putting in mechanisms like this in a 60 dollar main series family friendly Pokemon game... That's a PR disaster waiting to happen if they did.

I could just see it... The game corner games will use Joy Con controls, perhaps to throw pokeballs at stuff.

Why have nothing just because of one failed thing? LGPE needs all the content it can get, even if said content is just a bunch of mini-games.

"Nothing" if whatever they were going to give us was the same as Voltorb Flip. Of course, realistically if they did include it, I would just not play it, but I hope they give us something a little more fun.

Their purpose is to attract more future players, without having hidden value that only competitive players care about. After having to deal with additions after additions with each new game, having something more basic and not as clunky and overcharged feels like a breath of fresh air.
If they are labelling some games "introductory" as another line of games, whilst continue to develop more difficult games, then I'm fine with it.

I personally think that having a simple game is better than having no games-- we used to have gap years in Pokemon, and I really hated gap years.
So if they fill in the gap years with simple games, like maybe 1 simple game per generation, then I think it's better than having a gap year.

Does this also factor remakes into the equation? Or does the LG series kind of "cover" that aspect?

I don’t think Nintendo would allow Microtransactions in Pokemon. They’ve been absent from their popular games like Mario and Zelda.

It becomes even more unlikelier seeing GameFreak's reluctance to include DLC in the first place.

You could say amiibo is a microtransaction of sorts that is i cluded in zelda and mario

The amiibo rewards aren’t anything significant and as far as I know can be obtainable in the games without amiibo (I'm not sure on the second part, though).
Amiibo don’t give game-breaking advantages to users who purchase a lot of them, and a single amiibo can be used in multiple games.

True, although currently, I don't see too many options for micro transactions for core series games to begin with. Letting us purchase in game items like Pokeballs and potions would be pointless, unless they decided to make in game currency incredibly scarce, and have Microtransactions convince us to purchase items instead of grinding for in game currency. I don't see that happening though. At best, I could potentially see Gamefreak allowing us to purchase BP (or something to that equivalency) using micro transactions, but that's about it. I'd say that they'd be better off focusing on proper DLC content if they want to go down that kind of road.

I think Super Mario Odyssey's content is all available without Amiibos, but I know that Breath of the Wild's is not. Sure, it's not game-changing content like in a F2P mobile game. But still without Amiibos you can't even have a classic Link tunic/hat, Epona, etc. All of those are only available through Amiibos. You don't 'need' that content, but in a game that is all about customizing outfits and the like, it is rather frustrating that something like a classic tunic for Link is only hidden behind Nintendo's microtransaction Amiibos.

The worst thing is the Amiibo cards they made for Animal Crossing New Leaf's update. Like Pokemon card packs, you're paying for a pack of random cards, except these cards give you access to content you can't get otherwise like villagers and furniture. It's a physical lootbox.

Items people might pay for: Master Balls, Shiny Charm and any items exclusive to the Battle Tower clones.

Any other suggestions I can send to Masuda? They're already working on the adopt-a-mythical service.

In zelda there are lots of items that can be only acquired in amiibo

Thia includes the best horse, best bow and arrow and some of the best items
