Spoilers Official Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee Discussion Thread

Actually when I think about it. Don't you kind of need Pikachu and Eevee to progress in the game? Since those secret techniques seems exclusive to them, and there's no HMs it seems. I mean, unless you're up to constantly switching pokemon in and out the box when you want to travel across the water or fly.
I believe even if you remove pikachu and eevee on your party they stay at your shoulder/head

Also i just noticed that they made the game corner into an arcade yes! Glad they listen and not remove it completely!

Pika Papow? Splishy splash, Veevee volley, sizzly slide?

Every day these games try their best to convince me they’ve been created for literal toddlers.

Seriously it sounds like something you’d say to your one year old.

Though I do question what exactly made the english department want to give these new moves such...cutesy names?
I think that's a tongue-in-cheek reference to everyone who said the game is too baby-ish. Or they just didn't want to bother wasting the cool names on moves that likely won't make it to other installments.

9,999 coins says the Celadon Game Corner will be retconned to be more like a Dave & Busters, rather than an actual casino with slot machines.
I'm actually hoping this turns out to be the case. A bunch of arcade-style mini-games sound a lot more entertaining than the slot machines and Voltorb Flip. Plus, I think these games desperately need mini-games since Kanto doesn't have a lot to do other than 8 Gyms + Pokémon League. However, the fact that none of the new trailers told us about the Game Corner in the Celadon City section (only showing what it looks like) make me believe it'll end up being a European Platinum situation because Game Freak couldn't be bothered to try and do anything with it.

I wonder if that means they can be transferred to 8th gen, that is if Let's Go supports transfers.

Wouldn't they be the ones who transfer it though?
I was replying to a comment saying that Game Freak won't allow Pikachu/Eevee to be transferred to Gen 8. That was what I was saying might upset the kids playing these games.

I read somewhere that people don’t like the gym requirement. I don’t see how it’s a problem. If you know Brock uses Rock types, just get a grass type in Viridian Forest.

The problem is that it forces you to use certain Pokemon. One of the main appeals was playing with your favorites any way you want, this is restricting it so much.

It is confirmed-the Nintendo Treehouse playthrough just involved showing it.

Now, whether you can swap out Pokemon in the gym or not has not been shown. (They didn't attempt to in the video)

It's really not as simple as "if you know they use X type, use the types super effective against them"-gym requirements can also involve level.

I think LGPE has at least gotten the main frustration out of the way by letting players access their PC anywhere, but it's perfectly understandable for people to dislike the concept.
There's always multiple ways to tackle a gym-stat-changing strategies, coverage moves (like the ones Pikachu and Eevee just got), playing with types that resist or that are neutrally effective, or even overlevelling. But requiring players to have a certain Pokemon that fits an easy solution takes a bit of the variety out.

New moves: The starters having access to loads of special powers fits the spirit of the game, I kinda like it.
Secret techniques: It seems they listened to the complains that Poke Ride was a good idea but that it didn't feel natural enough. I can see this coming back in Gen 8 with a few tweaks.
Partner Powers: Rotom Dex bonuses meet Amie bonuses. I thought they were OP at first, but now that they only work on your starter makes it a clever idea.
Erika: She looks terrible. I know her FRLG and HGSS outfits were glorious but they should at least had tried. The derpy eyes on the artwork don't help at all.
Kanto in-game map: As shown in the japanese trailer, it has blue points on the places where there are dungeons, and there are none near Cinnabar Island, which reduces the chances of a volcano dungeon.

I'm still not buying the game, but I'm glad we're past the "One line of news per month" era.

After my initial disappointment at the announcement of this game, I had been slowly trending upward towards wanting to buy it with the various information releases, culminating in the video clip of the SS Anne, which just looks amazing. I was going to compliment the marketing for this one, because I went from being disappointed, to intrigued, to almost excited about eventually playing this. But today's new release of information certainly has me trending downwards again as the new additions are way too gimmicky for my taste.

I'm really disappointed in the HM/field moves, as the point of these are that it takes a group of Pokemon with different skills to be able to help you through your journey. I get the nostalgia behind fly and surf Pikachu, but having your starters do all HM type moves is too much. And having multiple gimmick moves with embarrassing names is quite disappointing as well. I got used to the Z move names, but these are a whole new level of embarrassing, and seemingly far more gimmicky. I very much hope (and expect) these moves never make it into any other game.

Also, minor point, Misty's Starmie is level 18, when it was 21 in RBYFRLG, so of course, they are also making it easier (which doesn't come as a surprise).

They lowered Starmie's level because they gave it the move scald, an 80 damage water type move. The move more than makes up for the dropped levels.
