I watched the video and noticed something...odd to say the least. Pause at the part where they are looking at Pikachu's status screen. Apparently it came to Kanto Region through some mysterious force and that the met states that they "meet again in Pallet Town"...

Oh my gosh Pikachu is sooooo cute. I love all of the cute interactions between the player and the partner. The high five after beating gym and the little moments like the one after the rival battle where we see Pikachu's reaction; all of those make the game look so damn enjoyable and I can't wait to see more.

I also like that we get to name the rival again. I'd been guessing that for awhile since he hasn't been called Trace since the E3 demo.

So I have a theory. If you remember. In the trailer that introduced the new rival, it specifically calls him "your friendly rival".
I think this distinction is made (meaning they could have just called him "your rival") because there is another more non-friendly rival also in the game. I also suspect that this is going to be Jesse and James. We already know they have a larger role in this game vs yellow (we see them in the game corner, they replace the old man that teaches you to catch pokemon in veridian city)

While the starters being coded as different forms isn't a surprise, here's an interesting thing: Their models are also different compared to regular Eevee/Pikachu.

Starter Eevee has more detail than the regular Eevee. It's also lighter while the regular one is darker. Starter Pikachu's is hard to tell at first, but the stripes seems to be darker when being compared to the others.

That's pretty interesting. Makes sense seeing as our Eevee and Pikachu have to be more expressive than regular ones~

At the same time I've been trying to limit how much I watch because I want it to be a surprise when the game releases!

Who's that Pokémon? An undiscovered Pokémon, could it be? A Meltan, the Hex Nut Pokémon. A steel type. But it could be a steel and ghost type. Never seen that Pokémon before.

It was sadly confirmed to be Steel.

Starter Eevee has purple irises, regular Eevee has brown irises.

Yeah. Not only are they coded as different from the standard Pikachu/Eevee, they are also the source that you use field moves from in this game. Also, every remake (except FRLG) has a special Pokemon that cannot be sent forward to later games. HGSS has the Spiky-Eared Pichu, ORAS has Cosplay Pikachu, and LGPE has the partner Pikachu/Eevee.

@RileyXY1 I think that sucks if that ends up being the case. Gamefreak created those new moves for Starter Pikachu and Eevee (and possibly new stats), I can only imagine a Sizzly Slide Flareon or a Bouncy Bubble Vaporeon. But you're probably right that it won't happen.

I think that the transfer could be a feasible scenario in this specific case. After all, you can use Pikachu/Eevee on the field without having them on the party already, so the mechanism would probably still work even if Pikachu/Eevee permanently left the party/box and were sent away.

It’s an unlikely thing, but still totally possible.

Does anyone think there is something more than meets the eye for Meltan? Like is there another form or evolution?

Evolution's unlikely, since we know it's the only Pokemon added in LGPE. (Still possible that it could be added in Gen 8, but it doesn't make very much sense to conceive of a Pokemon and its evolution at the same time and wait to release the evo)

Alternate form seems more likely IMO-even though there's no alternate form in GO yet, Meltan hasn't been fully released, so we might find something new.
