Also, Pokemon Generations had most Pokemon sound like animals.

So why couldn't Delphox be part of that handful?
Oriden already put example how foxes sound like, and Delphox even sound close to one, just that it's voice is high pitched

...okay calling that cry feminine is insulting to women everywhere. XP

But we don't know the gender of Delphox so why would they go out of their way to make gruff high-pitched sounds?
Cause that's part of how they determine genders in this show. You see this example plenty of times

Delphox sounds about how you would expect a fox to sound if it said words. The only thing remotely "feminine" about its voice is the fact that it's played by a female voice actor. Women are not typically that high-pitched.

And most pokemon are referred to as "it"- I'm pretty sure that the animation studio doesn't even assign genders to most of them.

Well of course they don't assign to all of them, they just bring in whoever they can get or willing to voice. But you seen to keep glossing over my point that even if there's a certain pitch to fit the animal, there's also a certain tone set that helps determine gender. For example, Aria's Delphox, had they not called her a she. Granted I can't even remember if they flat out called her a she, how else would you determine it's a girl?

...if they called it a she. Or gender differences. Voices do not determine gender for pokemon any more than they determine gender for a dog. That's just the way its species sounds.

Then let's point out one more obscure. Samurott. In the anime Samurott also has a feminine voice, but in pokempark it's voice sounds more masculine. Now Samurott is a very masculine pokemon, so how else would you determine it's gender?

In the anime- if they referred to it as a he or she.
In the games- whatever gender it is in the game. If any.
Voice does not determine gender.

I think you're forgetting that being gender ambiguous is a thing. Delphox is a gender neutral design, it doesn't have to swing one way or the other.

Would “elegant” make more sense than feminine? It’d fit starters from Sinnoh onwards.

It would, but it would also either disprove the trio theory, especially in regards to SwSh. Going back to Gen 4, if I'm understanding right that Empoleon should be the elegant one, then we already have a repeat of an elegant water starter, so the idea that they're using every archetype once per type doesn't work. And if we only go back to Gen 5, then the trio theory could sort of work (though I don't see you'd connect Emboar to Decidueye and Greninja), but now the trio theory doesn't matter, because it'd already be complete.

Well of course they don't assign to all of them, they just bring in whoever they can get or willing to voice. If they're using specific tones for gender, why do they use the same cry for Pikachu, regardless of gender?

Those are two different Samurott? Samurott is a species of Pokemon, and there's both male and female Samurott.

The easiest way to tell gender is just by looking at what pronouns characters use for the Pokemon. That's how Bulbapedia does it, too.

So what y'all gonna say if one of the final evolutions is feminine looking?
Personally, I wouldn't mind. I've been subscribed to Wickling's use of elegant instead for a few months, actually-- a conversation about it with my sister led to her saying that elegant might be more apt, and I feel that's fair. Though I've applying it specifically to Gens 6 and 7, like they decided to do this Bulky-Sneaky-Elegant trio for those two gens, for whatever reason. It could be way off the mark, of course, but to me the last two gens have followed that. Whether that combo finds its way into SwSh, obviously, has yet to be seen, but if it did, I kinda think Gen 9 would break it since that would be a full "3 Fire/Grass/Water Bulky, Stealthy, Elegant, etc".

To better elaborate on this, now that I have the time to do. Although there are also totally invisible walls in Let's Go (I didn't play Let's Go yet, but I sure I saw on some on a stream), the top down view perspective and the "symmetrical" routes makes it intuitive to the player where it can go. While in SwSh, we would have this:
B4mnkaP.png

That would be totally counterintuitive. All players would try to do that, and they would get frustrated. Not only does the camera's perspective allow you to see the entire field as it was open to you, but also there is something there that players would like to inspect and could not. With the trailer and the map, we can note that many areas of this game will be like this (you can tell that by the low quality textures used on distant objects).

So, I really don't think we'll have rideable Pokémon like Let's Go (where you can pick any Pokémon and fly away). Following Pokémon maybe, but even so I think it's unlikely too.
What you say sounds reasonable. Good catch.

I never really understood why some people balk at feminine designs. It's not some sort of new concept; do those people forget about the existence of Nidoking/queen?

I don't think anyone is saying there shouldn't be feminine designs (at least not in this conversation), just that the whole 'cool/masculine/feminine' starter theory has little precedence outside of two instances at best.

Was generally speaking, not necessarily implying was saying the such here =P Apologies for the misunderstanding.

But personally, it'd be nice for Grookey to have a feminine design this time around, which is something that hasn't happened since.... Meganium? Depending if you count Meganium as feminine.

Hey all I just realised something: all the past villains have a colour motif

  • Red: Maxie
  • Orange : Lysandre
  • Yellow (hair): Lusamine
  • Green (hair): Ghetsis/N
  • Blue (hair): Cyrus
  • Indigo: Archie
And then there is Black (Giovanni), White (Guzma, hair) and Grey (Colress, , clothes). The only one we're missing is purple. They even formed a rainbow team together. Coincidence? Well I have been awake for 22 hours, so maybe, but just in case I'm right I'm betting right now that the next evil team leader has purple hair and or clothes (pink, magenta and similar shades are acceptable too).
