How tall do you think Delphox is? It's shorter than a full grown adult?
Delphox is about the size of the mc. Everything over Delphox (let's say Feraligatr) would completely delete the mc from the screen and I honestly doubt they would restrict following mechanic in the cave to pokemon shorter than the mc.

Still though. It's only a hallway. I doubt you actually need to see your character to know that you need to move forward

What we have here are two sides of an argument. A more optimistic side that says we can't say following pokémon aren't in the game just because they weren't in the trailer and a more pessimistic side that says following pokémon aren't in the game for that very reason. I hope both sides realise that neither side is right.

Both opinions are valid. While it's fine to discuss why you hold your particular opinion, I hope no one sees this as an argument to be won, because it is just opinion with as little information as we have right now.

Personally, I don't hold out much hope of having following pokémon in SWSH. I think they made the allowance for fan service in LGPE because they were already including the overworld pokémon as a feature anyways. Remember that, while technically a main series game, the Let's Go games are a seperate main series line. Think of it like an alternate universe. I wouldn't automatically expect anything in the main series to be included in a Let's Go game and vice versa.

I don't think that's something they would do, like "who cares if they see where they are going". The truth is that if they wanted to put following pokemon in the game in that cave, they would have simply created a different cave.

That's bit of pessimistic logic. Saying that a feature's not in a game cause a cave isn't one size fits all.

I'm not saying that following pokemon is not in the game because of that cave. I'm just saying that there's nothing suggesting that following pokemon is in the game and there's actually something (like that cave) that suggests that I should not believe in something that was not even remotely teased.
When the games were revealed I was the first to be disappointed by the lack of that feature. But I know that I cannot blame GF for believing till November in something that since the first trailer was clearly not there.
If following pokemon comes back, I'll be happy but right now I have nothing to believe It will.

Then what do you think the over 1600 walk and run animations for every pokemon are for? They already used the 300 for Let's Go, plus 4 more with Meltan and Melmetal. I doubt they'd got through all that effort to not bring it back to a system that can now handle the full models.

What I always thought. That there's a big difference between what we think is logic to do and what GF decides to do with their games.

I agree with this. It is possible that they intended to include following pokémon, even back in SM, prepared assets for it, and then decided, after some testing, that the implementation of it just didn't work with other design choices that they wanted more.

But if that were the case, they would've avoided using them in Let's Go, where it obviously worked.

That isn't necessarily true either. They included overworld pokémon in LGPE to give that visual relation to Go. Including one of those overworld models following you around is different than including the unique models for a vastly larger number of pokémon in a world map that wasn't designed with having multiple moving models that aren't on preprogrammed tracks.

I dont think we will have following pokemon beyond MAYBE the starter pokemon, but
you have to remember if you look at the trailer, some shots of the same area had items that other shots didnt have. like the big rock by the grass gym. This means. i assume?, that the clips we did see where in different times of development. They were still adding and improving things in the over world.
So, its possible they didnt have the following pokemon thing in there yet to film/didn't film at all yet.
Eh, if we do get following Pokémon, I can't see it being restricted to the starters considering we already have walk/run animations for everything else. There just wouldn't be any reason for that limitation.

Aren't the overworld and in-battle models the same in that game? Plus we can see roamin pokemon aren't in the game, so doesn't that already greatly lessen the too many overworld models thing?

The walk/run models are in Sun and Moon- considering they are probably compiled with the model assets, I would bet that they would be in Sword and Shield regardless of whether or not the following feature is actually present in the game. Especially since even the item list has just been copy-pasted since at least Gen 4.

I guess box-art and maybe some characters, but anything more would be a pleasant surprise.
