kinda wonder if Game Freak/TPC intend on keeping everything secret until the day of release. unlikely, but something worth thinking aobut.

for people who want to play the games blindly, that would be a godsend.

No, else they wouldn't have revealed the starters, gyms and characters either.

They only need to do just that for the initial hype, and keep mostly everything else secret to keep people guessing. =P

But I'm just thinking out loud here and not actually considering that possibility.

Man, could you imagine if they had given us nothing and then just dropped the entire game one day in November with no warning...
It would be abysmal for marketing, and Pokemon fans would have been absolutely miserable up until then, but it sure would be interesting.

this has already been discussed to death in the thread but the most likely release date is Nov 22 (Friday before Black Friday). Winter "culturally" starts in Japan in November.
guess im a little late. sorry.
what is meant by culturally? google says winter starts in Japan on december 22.

i mean, it's not that complicated; it's just cultural behaviors. it's like the "Holiday Season" in the West.

It's like how stores in the US put the Christmas stuff out in November. In the marketing world, the winter/holiday season starts before the actual season. Clothes shopping is also like that- if you want summer fashion, you gotta start looking for it in spring.

It's not super relevant to the discussion, but I just wanna say that stores are not the best indicator of the season. I work at a Walmart and about a week ago they had summer clothes on the shelves but it was snowing outside :p

Also, we put our Christmas crap as early as September. But I do still get your point that November is sort of considered "winter" in the retail world.

X/Y were revealed on January 8th and released on October 12th. 9 Months/277 days after the reveal.
S/M were revealed on February 27th and released on November 18th. 9 Months/265 days after the reveal.

If we consider this range of numbers: 265 to 277, Sw/Sh should be released between November 18th and November 30th.
November 22nd is, right now, the most likely release date.

It might be October though, because looking anime-wise SM140 (XY140 being the last) would air around early October, and already the series is at the beginning of the end with the Pokemon League, dealing with Guzma and Team Skull and graduation. What else can they possibly do with the anime when Sword and Shield's anime coincides with the game's release? The episodes might drag for four or five more, so this isn't completely concrete as of now.

I don't think that's likely. For reference, the last episode of XY aired on October 27, 2016 in Japan and Sun & Moon were released on November 18, 2016 in most parts of the world.

the anime takes a two to three week break at the end of the season. XY140 aired Oct 27, SM001 aired Nov 17. similarly BW142 aired Sep 26 and XY001 aired Oct 17. there's likely to be some more filler and fluff before SM ends mid-October for SwSh to start early-mid November.

strokes chin I see... I see.

The wait for a pokemon game in the age of 3D models is basically a pregnancy without the cravings, body changes, and emotional mood swings wait no we still have that one.
