Since we know the day we'll get news, I'll post this for the last time with the final count of days without news:
118966

When Gen 9 will be revealed, remember we almost spent 100 days without news during gen 8.

So we're getting a direct and a live conference? I'm guessing that the conference is non-SwSh related? (just kinda got home from work so bit out of the loop!)

Yes, exactly: the Direct has been indicated to include details about Sword & Shield,
and, the conference is said to be for/about "some exciting updates"!

What do you think they'll mention in "exciting updates"? PokeBank or something else?

I really hope they announce PMD5 for the Switch tomorrow. I really liked Red/Blue Team and I LOVED Explorers, but I never touched Gates (which I hear is bad) or Super (which I hear is decent). My biggest fear, though, is that there's a non-zero chance that it could be a mobile game considering what happened to Rumble, and if that happens, then I can't even begin to imagine the backlash in the West

As much as I would love another PMD (Super was great by the way, but not as good as Explorers) I simply just don't think it's going to happen. I think the whole point of Super (and yes, the title is affecting my thought process as well) was that it was supposed to be the definitive end to the series given its inclusion of all 720 Pokemon that were known at the time of its release. Though it is not completely out of the question that another PMD could be in the works; the nature of the Switch supports this as the most likely spinoff to receive a release due to its pick-up-and-play ability. It's also worth noting that we've seen PMD on a home console before, with the Japanese-only WiiWare releases.

An interesting concept for sure, and something I didn't consider, but not something I personally think is likely.

I hope we finally hear about pokebank compatibility with swsh. I just have this bad feeling in my gut that these games will be the first since ruby and sapphire to not be able to transfer from older games.

I doubt that they would take away the ability to transfer from older games. Think of the backlash they would get from fans if this were the case. I'm sure it's not too difficult to make Pokemon Bank compatible with the Switch.

Maybe it's because I'm an N64-era kid, but I don't really see why being on a handheld/home console hybrid now means any really big changes for the series. Sure, there are some massive open world games now, but there are also a lot that just... aren't. And given how Gen 7 was, it wouldn't surprise me if the "switch" to console just results in graphic improvements and bigger and better cutscenes.

Sadly, I have to agree with you here. Everything we've seen about Sword and Shield to this point supports this idea, which I wish wasn't the case.

Open world in the sense of Mario Odyssey may be a good in-between point for the series

Couldn't agree with this point more. I can imagine Pokemon as a completely open-world game, but I think given the story-based, somewhat linear structure of the recent generations something akin to Odyssey would be the best fit for the series in its current state.

Well, there might be an additional complication they threw in the works. They have proven the Switch can communicate with mobile phones and GO. I think they intend to put in a way for Bank to communicate with GO by this same method.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, it does by bluetooth.

Im sorry if this is a bit off topic, but was there ever a time where they gave a pokemon a recovery in another gen by level up or by event?

Im really crossing my fingers for any silvally buffs in gen 8, its my favourite pokemon

They introduce new moves all the time. Tons of Flying types got Roost in gen 4, for example. Sometimes old moves become TMs or Move Tutors as well making them accessible to a ton of new Pokémon. Most recently, there was Leech Life for recovery.

Man I'm hella excited to see the new Pokemon next week. I really wonder if there will be a new dog Pokemon, and if so, if it'll be a pug or a welsh corgi. I really hope for a pug, since I have 2 IRL.

Maybe we won't get a dog, since we've had 3 in a row (Lillipup line, Furfrou, Rockruff line).

Hopefully we don't get a new cat for a while.

Why not both a cat and dog? That way everyone wins.

We get both every generation so I'm totally expecting them this generation too. The only time we didn't get a cat (other than Espeon) was Johto, and it still turned out that they had designed one but scrapped it.

Kanto: Meowth and Growlithe
Johto: (Rinrin) and Houndour/Snubbull/Smeargle
Hoenn: Skitty and Poochyena/Electrike
Sinnoh: Glameow/Shinx and Lucario
Unova: Purrloin and Lillipup
Kalos: Espurr/Litleo and Furfrou
Alola: Litten/Alolan Meowth and Rockruff

Edit: Added Shinx and Litleo in case anyone counts the lion cubs as cats. You still have a cat every generation without them, though.
Edit 2: Also added Alolan Meowth.

Honestly, I can only see them talking about the Pokemon Rumble game and whatever the new Pokemon Bank equivalent app. I don't see any new spin-offs being announced at the moment.

About the conference, I think we could create a thread for it. What do you think?

Oh that's so amazing that Ohmori is so immersed into Sword and Shield. It is probably the most amazing thing to see when writers get so into their creations. We might have something really good here guys, with tweets like that.

We could create a new thread for the Conference, but with it happening so soon, and with the fact that it might just spawn more threads with possible new titles, I am not sure if it's worth it.

That will be nothing compared to the gap between the SWSH release and whatever game comes next...But let's just not think about that.

Moveset buffs happen all the time, specially when the Pokemon has a decent role in the game: are in the regional dex and easy to obtain, their home region gets a remake or third version, etc. And in both XY and SM, many Pokemon from random regions got +10 or more in certain stats.
