Tonight on the Press Conference (I can picture it now):

The main man hosting the conference boldly steps up to the main screen holding a microphone... from there he stands elegantly, waiting to announce the exciting new Pokemon titles on the horizon. Ready to say something, he takes a deep breath and says...

"Pokemon..."

"the gacha game for mobile phones"

then he drops the microphone and walks off.

Go and LGPE were new ventures that required clarifications. You're right that Quest wasn't very special (although it was the first Pokemon spin-off game developed by Game Freak). A new live action movie wouldn't be a new venture, but the timing for an announcement is appropriate now that Detective Pikachu has proven to be a decent success (and it was announced 3 years ahead of its release, so another movie announcement wouldn't be too early).

So maybe my argument about PMD not being new doesn't stand if the main focus is the DeNA title anyway...

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Don't read into hype. SM's "it all comes together!" was less vague than Ohmori having a dream, but it still didn't amount to much.

I don't know what "forge a path to greatness" could mean, and maybe it can be just PR talk. But we had the connection to the first and second generation games through the Bank this generation, thus causing all main line games to be connected again. Several characters from various generations appearing in the games (Red, Blue, Wally, Anabel, Cynthia, Grimsley, Colress, Dexio and Sina). Alola Forms and all the entire connection between Alola and Kanto and Johto (referencing the connections between Hawaii and Japan). And so on. May have been just a reference to the 20th anniversary, as well. It is hard to say for sure that it was something empty of meaning. Even more so after XY and the "next evolution" prhase.

It meant something, but not much (the Battle Tree cameos were light compared to the PWT, and the Alola forms focused on a single region). This time it's just generic "look forward to these great games we've made."

Because TPCi aren't desperate for console games apart from the main series ones. These days, they pick one or maybe two seemingly lucrative options per generation.
This is the first time that the handheld and home consoles are the same, so there's no precedent for how Game Freak will treat handheld spinoffs.

What, by way of the Battle Tree? A limited version of the PWT? I hope you aren't referring to USUM.

I've argued about this in other places and honestly I'm not sure I have the energy to go I'm depth. But it has to do with paying homage to what is old by way of Alolen forms, and cameos. While still doing new things like Z moves and trials. The old and the new all in one place...aka "it all comes together."

Also that "it all comes together" line was after they listed off the years that each of the generations were released- it was never about the regions all coming together in one game, it was about the years of development coming together into one game.

I think people read too much into these catch lines.

Come on TPCi. Please announce a "Be a Gym Leader!" spin-off, and let me create my own Gym and design my own badass gym badge.

I want to kick challenger's asses on a daily basis. I want to have many admirers and be the star in my city.

Do it.

Not sure if they would allow you complete reign over how the badge will look like. At least, not after the whole Mario Kart DS decal fiasco.

I'm honestly more interested in designing a super cool Gym, with plenty of obstacles. The badge would just be an additional bonus point.
