True. Also, to add to your idea, why not also a way to modify and/or recruit Gym trainers?
Yes, good point.

Here are all the features I have in mind for this "Be a Gym Leader!" spin-off:

  • Choose a town or city where your Gym will be located.
  • Choose your Pokémon type
  • Design your own Gym
  • Design a Gym Badge
  • Accept/decline/modify the Gym Trainers in your Gym
  • Recieve daily challengers
  • Visit the town's Trainer Fan Club to see how many fans you currently have, and interact with them
  • You can improve your popularity and win new fans by winning battles, and also by helping some of the citizens (help a newbie trainer catch his first Pokémon, protect a shop owner against some low-key villains like Team Skull, help defeat a wild Totem-like Pokémon causing havoc in the city, etc)
  • Participate in a Tournament along with other GLs, E4 members and the Region's Champion
The main differences from the main series would be:

- the game doesn't take place around an entire region, but only in the city/town where your Gym is. However, the city/town would be a lot more realistic in terms of size and complexity. Imagine how in some games you can freely explore New York, but on a smaller scale.

- No EVs and IVs

- there is a level cap to make battles against challengers fair

Somehow I can just picture it as Pokemon's version of Animal Crossing.

What I think will be in this conference:

one of those game annoncement
-pokemon snap 2
-pokemon stadium 3
-detective pikachu remastered for switch

We'll get news on the next pokemon bank

I also think we'll get a really short trailer for pokemon Sword and Shield

We'll surely get a news for a mobile game.

Maybe,a big maybe, virtual console from previous games like red and blue or Stadium, etc for Switch.

I'm predicting a monkey's paw situation where a get a new mystery dungeon game but it's for mobile lol

The conference hasn't been specified as strictly video-game related like the previous year's, so I'm intrigued as what we'd see relating to the franchise as a whole.

Yeah, I wouldn't get my hopes up for any spin-off for the Switch for right now considering the new Pokemon Rumble is for mobile. I don't even think we'll get a break next year for main series games considering there's another Pokemon mobile game coming 2020.

This is the first time that the handheld and home consoles are the same, so there's no precedent for how Game Freak will treat handheld spinoffs.
I didn't use the word "home". Generation VI only had Art Academy (eh), SMD and Pokken, while Generation VII has had Detective Pikachu. I am not counting non-retail games or ports.

I don't follow your logic.

We still have Rumble Rush confirmed for Gen 7, so that's two spinoff games. With every generation containing at least two retail spinoff games, I don't think it makes sense to say that "These days, they pick one or maybe two seemingly lucrative options per generation". They've never chosen just one option per generation. (There's also no official word that it's been Pokemon's decision not to make sequels for these spinoffs or the developers of the games)

If spin-offs are released on the Switch, it will make the mobile ones sort of obsolete considering the Switch can be carried around anywhere and can be used as a console as well. Anyone would prefer a game without microtransactions than one with it, this obviously says that spin-offs being released on mobile won't be released in the same year as a spin-off being released for the Switch. Pokemon Go is the sole exception to the rule, but exceptions don't make the rules.

Haha... yeah there's probably less chance of a Pokemon Snap 2 or Pokemon Stadium 3 than there is of a new Mystery Dungeon.

By that logic, shouldn't spinoffs on the DS and 3DS already have made mobile spinoffs obsolete? They can be carried around without microtransactions, too. Plus, Quest was released on both mobile and Switch, and the Switch version still included micotransactions. Same goes for Pokemon Shuffle on 3DS.

But Quest was released on both platforms. Pokémon Shuffle also was released both on 3DS and mobile. The difference is that in both cases on both platforms they had the same type of approach (free with microtransactions).

Edit: Ninjad. See the Tech's post.

Mobile games are not created for the videogames fans in particular. Don't forget that all videogames Pokemon fans have a mobile phone while not all the people who play pokemon on their phone have a console.

I don't know what to expect really, but the fact that Pokemon's social media accounts are hyping it up tells me its SOMETHING.

I don't know if anything Sword and Shield will show up, since they are having a whole Direct for it next week, but maybe a small teaser for the cover legendaries could happen?

It's a mobile game (and it's already out). There a lot of those and it isn't what people want for PMD.

If you really think that we could get as many as Switch spin-off games as we did for the DS, then okay. I think it's completely reasonable for someone to want something other than another PMD entry, without really caring if the latter happens anyway. Not to mention that some of Spike Chunsoft have their own priorities.

They did hint at Pokémon Snap in a Pokémon GO tweet back when the new camera capture feature released. It said “Taking photos is a snap ”

I could see the "create a gym" thing being a feature in a main series game or a post-game multiplayer activity, not a full game.

As for the conference, I'm very curious. The other conferences were for let's go and pokemon go I believe. But I think it's too early for let's go johto, and I think they'd reveal that in a direct or a surprise trailer.

I also don't expect much for sword/shield news especially with a direct coming. If they show anything new in the conference I'd expect a new type of spin off game or mobile experience.

I also don't expect any new pokemon mystery dungeon game...ever. Super mystery dungeon was called the "definitive" PMD game.

At no point did I say it was unreasonable for someone not to want a MD entry. All I said was that if it did happen, it's not likely that the actions of Spike Chunsoft would affect whether other developers could make their spinoff games or not.
