Official Pre-Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield Speculation & Leaks thread

One of the most popular Pokemon(Lucario) is humanoid. And besides Jynx there isn’t really a lot of “backlash” for humanoid Pokemon.
But Lucario looks enough like an animal to get away with it.

Likewise with other pokemon who have spikes and/or fur that make them look less like humans and more like something else.

Okay, but still, there really isn’t any “backlash” for human-like Pokemon.

Object Pokemon probably get more hate and there’s a lot more of them than human-like Pokemon.

Which makes even less sense since there were more object pokemon in gen one that humanoid Pokemon (ironically the two humanoid ones were the most controversal ones)

Well, in Meltan's defense, I guess it's because we have not seen the Sugimori artwork. At least, I don't think this is Sugimori.

Those black outlines scream Sugimori to me. Unless someone tried to mimic his art style, those are pretty distinctive.
Look at this Sugimori Altaria, for example:

Something to know about Sugimori art, the shading in various parts. Question is, are those starter Pokemon properly shaded in their artwork? That's a key thing to know whether they are real or not.

But why would someone who works for game freak leak information?

That's the real question.

Alola starters were drawn by Ohmura and not Sugimori.

EDIT: What I'm saying is that we can't take for granted that Generation VIII starters' art is going to be made by Sugimori.

Okay.
1- Guess I got the whole humanoid Pokémon thing wrong. Sorry
2- Object Pokémon can be kind of excused since Pokémon were never supposed to be only based on animals, they were based on different monsters and tropes from RPGs, too. Example: Voltorb and Electrode are mimics, Grimer/Muk are slimes/flans, etc.
3- I was not exactly sure about if it was Sugimori or not, so that's why I decided to err in the side of caution. Maybe it was the shading or something that me doubt.

While the starters are likely fake...

It does seem to line up with the “patterns”. Especially the water Starter not only filling the “bulky” criteria but also leaving it open for “facial hair” (its a bear), like Chesnaught and Incineroar.

The Fire Starter seems to be the “cool” one, and will probably feature some sort of mask/hood.

Then the Grass Starter will evolve along the lines of Delphox and Primarina. It will probably have some sort of “hair”.

Those "patterns" can only be tied to gens 5-7at most-that's less than half of the franchise. (And some of those, like connecting Delphox and Primarina because they have "hair", are a pretty big stretch) And assuming their evolutions will just happen to line up with pre-conceived patterns when we don't have any indication of what they'd look like is really stretching things.

“Hair” isn’t the pattern. Basically what happened was, after we got the Gen 6 Starters, the Gen 7 Starters where the same but shifted around. You had the tough, bulky Chesnaught, feminine magical Delphox, and cool stealthy Greninja. Gen 7 also had the bulky/feminine/cool or stealthy trend. Decidiueye was the cool/stealthy one, Incineroar was the tough one, and Primarina was the feminine one (who also had a magical class. Delphox was a wizard, Primarina was a Siren/Healer).

It’s assumed that Gen 8 will continue this trend. They could do something completely different, but we’ll lose out on a feminine magical Grass Starter, cool stealthy Fire Starter, and bulky tough Water Starter.

I mean, we thought we got 3rd games with every gen but it turned out that pattern wasn't real.
While there are no real “patterns” you have to admit things have been fairly consistent. They are more so “trends” than patterns. For example, while it happened 4 years once... a 3 year gap has been fairly consistent. We got Gen 6, 3 years after Gen 5, then Gen 7, 3 years after Gen 6. We can only assume Gen 8 will be released in 2019... And it has already been confirmed we will get a new game in 2019.

Or what about the Fire Starter Zodiac trend? In the beginning it was a bit off with Typhlosion, but so far it’s beem fairly consistent. It’s highly likely the next Fire Starter will follow suit.

Or then there is then there is the lower/higher new Pokémon each Gen trend (which points to less Gen 8 Pokémon than Gen 7), or the remake pattern that puts D/P Remakes in a 2020 timeslot.

Edit: Yes, Trends would be the more correct term than pattern, because “Trend” allows for more breathing room. You can’t say the Fire Starters Zodiac connection is a pattern because there’s are some inconsistencies. It is however the general direction they appear to be taking the starters, or a “trend” :)

That Zodiac trend is a myth as is all the other "starter trends".

And every game has been three years after the other because that's generally in the timespan it takes to make and market a game while simultaneously allowing you to have a year or two to play the previously released game.

Lets do the Bulk - Stealth - Feminine pattern

Gen 1 - Grass (Feminine), Water (Bulk), Fire (Stealth)
Gen 2 - Grass (Feminine) - no need too go further, since the pattern is already destroyed.

Then lets do the attack (Special and Physical )and mixed pattern since gen 4

Gen 4 - Torterra (Physical) - Infernape (Mixed) - Empoleon (Special)
Gen 5 - Snivy (Mixed) - Emboar (Phyiscal) - Samurott (Special). So the pattern cannot go on here anymore, and even if Samurott and Emboar are switched, you have a problem in gen 6 with Chesnaught being Physical.

As you see, you cannot base patterns on starter line designs, since its a mess. Nothing fits.

Not even the Mixed, Attack (Both) and Defense fits.

How is Venasaur feminine?

Again, there are no patterns regarding Pokemon. It was already clear by now since Gen 5 sequels were released instead of a Gray version, Gen 6 having no follow up game whatsoever and Gen 7 having two third versions instead of one. We don't even know what kind of official starters we are going to get, after all, the Fire-type can be a goat instead of a snake, the Water-type can be a water buffalo instead of a bear and the Grass-type could be a falcon instead of an armadillo.
