Official Pre-Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield Speculation & Leaks thread

The pic on the right is just to promote the Pokemon Center's Valentines Day 2019 merch - the "Hearts Take Flight" collection. Plusle + Minun also appear on the fleece throw. Plusle and Minun just reference the concept of love and if really reaching the standard switch joycon colours and the migration to the switch. Not a reference to a outdated leak from 2014.

The very positive side of perhaps if the first news/reveal is not for another few weeks or even longer than a month, is that it will be more surprising, and somehow basically feel even more amazing than if something had already happened! :) :)

In certain ways the Sun/Moon and Let's Go prerelease journeys/reveals were still really impressive, but, the gameplay and graphics were not exactly out of left field. It made sense that they were as visually impressive as that! Theoretically this is going to be quite the opposite effect even once we have started getting used to whatever it is that we will be seeing!

With the Switch now, I hope we see a 360 degree rotational camera. I originally didn't realise how much of a difference it would make in the Pokemon games, but with the traditional, fixed bird's eye view it would change a lot. The angle and view of a camera can genuinely make the world feel more alive, immersive and bigger. E.g. A camera like BOTW, Super Mario Odyssey, or even the AC franchise.

Imagine riding on Arcanine in a Pokemon town and seeing NPC's walking around. Seeing 3D models of buildings, such as the Pokemon Centre and Gym. Adjusting your camera to see the roof of the buildings because they are too tall close up, and even for the first time, see the back design of them too.

So since I brought back nothing. Is there a Pokemon, any Pokemon, that you would like to see a regional variant of this generation? (if they brought them back). Would it change types, and what would it be if it did?

I would want to see regional variants of Ariados and Ledian with Bug/Dark and Bug/Psychic respectively. Both type combinations have never been used before and fit them nicely. The types match up with Umbreon and Espeon for Night and Day, as well.

I know Bug/Fighting has been speculated for Ledian before, but since Ledian is one of the few dual screeners, I thought it would be better to emphasize its psychic abilities.

So anyone know of youtue channels that are covering Gen 8 rumors that are a bit more...solid?

I mean I am aware rumors and all, but any channels that focus on the topper tier rumors and not just any random thing on reddit?

I would love to see a regional variants of fossil Pokmeon that because they adapted to this new area, they didn't go extinct, and are thriving in the region they are in. I think that would be a really interesting idea to explore, because it would explore this idea of adaptation more that regional variants really introduced to the series. The first thing that came to mind was maybe seeing a fairy type of Amaura and Aurorus. But any fossil Pokemon would be cool.
*excited buzz* Water-type Ponyta! Maybe Water/Grass- give it a very swampy look, maybe base it on a kelpie. Or just pure Water, give it a tail fin and base it on a hippocampus. I would love that.

Really really want a swamp horse, though. I don't care if it's a regional variant or a new pokemon, a swamp horse would be cool.

I could also go for a Ghost-type Ponyta- ghost horse, why not.

Also that Water Arcanine we didn't get because there's so much potential for a great design there.

Oh yeah Arbok and Ekans should get something cool. And I think its only fair if Koffing and Weezing got forms as well.

It would be really cool to see starters possibly get a variant. It would be another play on that idea that you don't see starters in the whild because they are very rare, but maybe in another region they have a form where they can actually thrive in the wild.
Oooooh, I was thinking how I would rule out starters as having variants before I read this- I like this idea. Still kinda feel like that it would be super unlikely, but this concept is very very good- GameFreak should consider it. Of course, if they did, it would most likely apply to the Kanto starters, no big surprise. But hey, it's something.

It's safe to say that Z will be here to stay. Z was a even bigger hit with the Japanese than mega was and with less community complaints. Fully expect future generations to get more Mega and Z support.

That being said. I dont want any more gimmicks introduced, can we just have some normal cross gen evolutions for a change or a Generation where only new pokemon are introduced like in BW lol Really dislike how in new generations new pokemon are insanely rare and you have to go out of your way to bling out your team XD
Heck yeah, I am really hoping that we will get some cross-gens again- that could help solve the lack of new pokemon thing by making it so old pokemon can become new pokemon.

Just server maintenance. Nothing to really note there.

Yass @Oriden ! KELPIES! Though I'd kinda like another mythological horse pokemon on it's own, turning Ponyta and Rapidash into kelpies for a regional variant sounds awesome!

When it comes to pokemon I'd love to see have variants one of the things I always think of is the Nido lines. Even though they're gen 1. I just really want them to get more love!

Oh man, maybe combine cross-gen evolutions and variant idea. Making a variant of Unova's elemental monkey trio that evolve into different pokemon be it with different stones than the normal ones or just evolving in a different way even.

Also give Dunsparce something. Variant? Evolution? SOMETHING. Give that boy some love too!

In generation 7 we has regional forms from generation 1 so it would be cool if now they make new forms for some pokemons from generation 2 and in generation 9 from generation 3 etc.

GF is certainly starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel with these ones.

I know we want variants from other gens, but I was looking through the pokedex and I just can't see how any of the newer designs could be changed up... Gen 1 pokemon were pretty blank slates, which makes them very easy to work with, so I can see how they might be easier to make variants for than any of the other gens.

That said, still hope they surprise us and come up with something good for non-Gen 1 variants.

Corphish is said to come from another region. Maybe it has a different appearance in its native region? It could be a nice flip, with the 'Regional Variant' being the actual appearance while the Pokémon we knew always was a specialised adaptation instead.

Same could be explored for other 'non-native' Pokémon like Yungoos, and fossils like Aerodactyl.

A scenario where fossil Pokémon survived as it is in remote areas: Ground/Flying or Dragon/Flying Aerodactyl, Water/Grass Cradily, Grass/Steel shieldon, Normal/Flying Archeops, and like @techitisJ memtioned, Fairy/Ice Amaura with Fire/Dragon Tyrantrum as a counterpart?
