Official Pre-Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield Speculation & Leaks thread

Yum, another leak to dissect (my thoughts in Bold):

I work helping with the international releases. That's all I'm willing to say, as there's a microscope over every department right now making sure nothing leaks before the big reveal.
That's still endangering your job.

* We don't know the titles yet and wont until just before the reveal. There's mock-up art with placeholders, but no version names yet. Everything's ready to be typed in and published. Given the theme of the game, King/Queen & Crown/Scepter are appropriate.
Not again. At this point I want the game as far from the UK as possible.

* The game takes place in a "near-future" western medieval country. UK was an influence, but there are prominent Italian/Roman elements. They want to avoid it being too similar to Kalos. Most major game changes are explained away by technology/human influence on Pokemon over time.
I have a bad feeling about this...

* The secret Team/Gang this time is a conservative/traditionalist faction, feeling the world and Pokemon are becoming too numerous and out of control. Men wear goofy powdered wigs and suits, women in Victorian gowns with fancy hair. Leader is referred to as royalty.
This may beat Team Flare as the team with the most ridiculous appearance.

* Massive overhaul and rebalance of the Pokemon. A lot of the Gen 1-2 mons have been retyped, and there are now only 16 types. Some weakness/resists have been changed. Bank still works but is like a reverse time capsule. Mons downloaded to Gen 8 are converted, given a special marker, and are unable to be sent back to previous games.
Yeah, right. I doubt they will ever do this.

* Related to above, there was a strong push with the new Switch engine to redo how pokemon data is stored, including data encryption. Team is very aware of programs like PKHex. Strong culture shift to make the game viable for "professional" competitions.
If there's something I know about Pokémon hackers, is that doing that won't stop them. In fact, they will take that as a challenge.

* Lowest number of mons added, around 40, but regional variants from Gens 2-3. A lot of Steel types. Theme is "mutation" or "enhancement" so there are several new weird type combinations. Many ideas have been scrapped for being "too similar" to other mons.
A region full of Steel Pokémon? No, just, no... Also, being too similar to other Pokémon has not stopped Game Freak of including them. In fact, with the exception of the flower rabbit and the Dolly Pokémon, most of the excluded Pokémon don't have an exact reason of exclusion.

* Longest part of development has been rebuilding the engine. Let's Go was a test, which is why stuff was cut and recycled.
And this is were the leak fails. Held items and abilities were not cut from LGPE, they were just disabled. This is why we know Meltan and Melmetal's abilities.

I sincerely doubt they will overhaul the system like they are doing, specially when Game Freak has been given the chance to change things but they have not. I guess it's because they want to keep things more or less consistent unless they add a major change like megas or a new type.

Agreed with all of this.

In regards to the part about Hacking.

The switch has already killed off powersaves completely, we won't be seeing that for Gen 8 thankfully since games can only save to the console and never the cartridge.

We can already Homebrew, PK Hex and modify our Switch right now. LGPE has no legality checkers whatsoever ironically lol

The console itself has very minor Encryption which is easily bypassed through modding. Even games like Splatoon 2 had a awful time of tracking mods online due to a specific processor used in the Switch. It's only in recent months with specific system updates that they were able to address it. You can still bypass those measures however.

Gen 8 is going to have a really rough time with Pk Hex this time since save reloader mods through homebrew allow easy access to pokemon modification.

Until Nintendo make a console with no SD card support and or make pokemon games online only forcing a connect to the PGL servers every time they open, youll get easy modding and editing.

How come nobody (except Prog)'s pointing out this one?

Removing two types? Requiring not only a retcon of every one of those Pokemon (which would have been designed with the type in mind-the only exceptions are the Magnemite line and the retyped Fairy-types), but also that of every type specialist, every move (also designed with that in mind), and removing two Z-Moves, just after creating them? No way that'd happen!

I guess the idea behind that was having those types consolidated or absorbed into one of the other 16. I could actually see Ice being absorbed into Water, but then its offensive potential would be wasted. Aside from that, there isn't much else unless Rock/Ground were merged into Earthbending type or whatever.

Gotta hand it to them for being a little original at least. Not every day you hear a "leak" talking about removing types, it's always adding some. XD

My thoughts are Rock and ground will be fused into earth type, and then normal/fighting or fairy/psychic idk

Normal and fighting wouldn't work. Normal is supposed to be the vanilla of pokemon types. Nothing that special but has a wide movepool and stuff. And Fairy and Psychic are totally different too. One is for magical myth critters and psychic is psychic powers. While a fairy might have something akin to psychic powers it's not the same. Like.. Fairy = Magic and Psychic does not to me.

Eh...Even then, it's still going to lead to some pretty drastic changes-especially considering that it would make all Ice-types that were weak to Fire suddenly super effective against it. (Not to mention the huge contrast between the Ice and Water gyms of various regions, or even the regions that have both, like Sinnoh, Unova, and Alola)

Is there supposed to be something special at the end of their stream?

Spaceworld one? Seems like a Gen 1 Beta stream, I was following the 4chan thread and there is only disappointment and Groudons.

There might (as in slim chance) be, but I don't have the fortitude for 3 hours.

@TechSkylander1518

Oh, I certainly agree. Maybe if this were still gen 2-3 then I could see type removals or consolidations. I don't see the idea as feasible this late into the series unless this is some alternate universe type scenario.

They said they would explain at the end, because I feel I got tricked. I wanted Spaceworld info, not a Blue hack with beta elements.

This most recent rumor doesn't seem promising to me. The fact that they would remove 2 types being the biggest red flag. Each type is very unique and has made it's place in Pokemon. Yes, there is a small handful of Pokemon I can see them retyping, but still not fully removing 2 types from the game and having to retype all those Pokemon.

The new Pokemon thing also makes me question it. Yes, I could see them going lower numbers in the Dex again. But like, the starters would take up a whole 4th of the new Pokemon if there were only 40 of them. I don't think we're ever going to see anything below 60 when it comes to the amount of Pokemon in the dex.

The fanbase would set itself aflame if they removed two types from the roster. Because no matter what type they chose, it would be the favorite of SOMEONE. Plus I think it'll be quite a few generations in the future before they try to rework the typings again. I mean we only just got fairy typing in the grand scheme of things. Imagine all the recalculation they'd have to do to the advantages, disadvantages, immunity, and even the move typings themselves upon the removal of those types. And then having to recalculate further if they're merging types into other types.

You got me. It is I, heiress of clan Gamefreak. Next games are pokemon stuffed and pokemon famished.

I don't think I'll be able to handle the backlash when they end up skipping Pokémon Satiated. Or when they make Pokémon Too Stuffed and Too Famished instead.

This conspiracy is next level shit and kinda getting out of hand.

Saw this collection on twitter XD

Don't forget we've also had fake posts trying to debunk legit leaks before.

Such was the case with the Gen V starter evolutions.

If they merged Rock with Ground and Ice with Water, that would buff Flying types significantly and nerf Steel types.

Maybe they worked around it. But I still find it doubtful. Still, gutsy for going the removing types instead of adding types path.
