Here's a list of characters I would love to see in journey.

-Brock and misty, yes they came back in sun and moon for some episodes, but now, Ash is in Kanto, there is a high chance for him to meet them. And maybe he can fight them a bit.
-May . Last time we saw her was in Diamond and pearl, more than 10 years ago.I want to see what she became, if she is still doing constest. Have wartortle evolve? Did she catch new pokemon? Wich ones?​
-Dawn. It's been a while too. She had such a good chemistry with Ash . And now with the imminent Diamond and Pearl remake , I think there's a high chance she might come back.
-Paul. Would be insane if he was competing in the tournament.
-Trip. No it's a joke, would be better off dead.
-Some league rivals Ash has met during all of his journey, like Tyson,Harrison, Ritchie,Etc
-Butch and Cassidy, team rocket need a bit of devolopment , they are kinda lame right now. It could help them.
-Ash previous pokemon, it would be insane to see a mix of the pokemon he just caught, and all the previous ones. Maybe some of them could evolve too.

I instead think that Barry will be the returning Sinnoh rival if there is one. Not only is he from the games, his Japanese VA is already on the cast as the voice of Raihan.

Before answer me the last time. It seems to me that this idea of video game from Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl Remakes may guide anime for Dawn to return and reunite with Ash and Goh as the team but it won't work out like last year.

I will explain to you about May never return in series to make nine years of sad, disappointment returns and it never worked.

I will tell you something sad, the disappointment returns and it never worked. Nine years ago, we remember we hope that May will return with Ash and his new friends in any all episodes of Pokémon the Series: XY until the last episode that was announced eight years ago, the video games of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to guide in anime but it does not work and disappoints. And another about Serena goes back with Ash in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon we are hoping that she will appear the same as May in Diamond and Pearl and Dawn in Black & White but they were disappointed that they are not the same as before and that made us sad.

Sorry. Oh, well. We'd better continue Ash's older friends without May, nor Serena.

Include Dawn so it won't work in the future the same as May.

You got a good point with May, she never came back in X an Y for ORAS. So it's possible that Dawn does not return either. Therefore, I think that Dawn is more popular as an anime character then May. And that the chance of her returning might be good. She return for like 10 episodes in black and with so we never know.
 
May didn't return in XY because that series was very anti-continuity. Iris didn't even appear, despite the long running tradition of bringing back the most recent Poke-girl. In addition Kaori, May/Haruka's VA, developed a throat-related illness that forced her to retire from voice acting, at least until she recovers.

There is talk that Kaori has partially recovered and returned to light va work. There are also rumors that they could be replacing Gary/Shigeru's voice actor, potentially opening up the door to replace May's if needed (although that may simply be joke). In any case, May has a much higher chance of returning in this series than she did in XY. I don't see a single barrier that would prevent Dawn from returning, and Serena should return unless the writers are too uncomfortable to acknowledge her crush on Ash, and therefore decide it's easier to omit her. :rolleyes:

I don't get the thing against Serena returning if the writers put some effort in her return could be interesting (expecting that from the writers currently is highly unlikely).

They could make it when Serena returns suddenly Ash is awkward and has difficulty talking to her while she is unaffected by it, they can skip any ship moments just having Ash in that uncomfortable situation would be interesting to see.

Problem is for an episode like that to work Goh will have to be sidelined which is highly unlikely.

So just give him a moment when he doesn't realize anything about the situation that is occurring because he is obsessing over catching a new pokemon and include Koharu in the situation instantly figuring out what could have happened (being right of course don't underestimate a women's intuition).

And now I get eaten alive
