I hope it's done better than it was during the beginning of Journeys. I hope it shows progression or future events, not just a preview of the episode. Kinda like how Naruto's 5th opening did it.

As much as I’ve seen people groan at the prospect, it does make some sense that she’d at least try it out especially since Dawn is the companion she bonded with, showing her the world of Contests. Now if only they’d give her another Pokémon.

However... I wouldn't mind the Pokémon switched up after a while. I mean, the new captures of Goh deserve a place in the opening.

Now, what I realy mean is I wouldn't mind if the concept of captured Pokémon representing the regions is repeated, only with Ash's Pokémon next time. Like all Ash's Kanto Pokémon at Oak's lab, his Johto Pokémon at a Johto location and forwards. A person can hope I guess.

Some thoughts:

-The animation and energy are GOOD on this one! I replayed the sequence of Ash’s team battling from times than I care to count.

-an expanding shot list of Goh’s roster? Pretty cute idea.

-is this implying Ash’s Alola party might be more than five second cameos? PLEASE imply that, thank you.

-sooo, Crown Tundra? Man, those two cardboard cutouts with the Urshifu better make themselves even slightly memorable.

-Paul is coming back, huh? Hopefully they do him justice if he battles Ash.

-Clemont and Bonnie are as adorable as ever!

-oh boy, here comes the frog… yay? I mean, I’m glad to see Greninja, but I’m not sure what’s the point of bringing it back if Offscreen Squad will clearly be doing the lifting.

-Lucario fighting Charizard? They really wanna keep us guessing.

-No hints of Ash battling Cynthia, and thank fuck for that, I don’t trust the writers to make that even slightly believable.

-I love how the ending shot has everyone happy and cheerful and then you have Sirfetch’d clearly going for the kill.

??? Ash has to battle Cynthia and the early Masters 8 opponents to even reach Leon. They didn't put Raihan or Lance in the opening either so I don't know why you think the absence of Cynthia means anything.

Why would they include the same 4 people in all those ending screen montages if Ash wasn't going to battle them?

Her version being this epic has partially redeemed One Two Three as a song, though not it being so overused.

This opening was really good. I loved how fluid the animation was. Since there was a lot of focus on Ash's current team, it does make it less likely for him to rely on reserves going forward in the PWC. Not impossible of course, but I just don't see it happening at the moment. Greninja returning is pretty cool. A part of me wouldn't be surprised if they pull a BW Charizard and have Ash bring it back to Professor Oak's lab, if only because it would give them easy access to Greninja in the future, but they'll probably just have it featured for an episode or two. Paul's return was definitely a surprise since I didn't think they'd care about any anime original characters. He'll most likely lose to Ash, but seeing their dynamic will be interesting and hopefully the battle will be good too.

I also didn't realize that Chloe was wearing the OR/AS Contest outfit. Honestly, I'm okay with her becoming a Coordinator. It does make sense that she'd want to at least try them out after bonding with Dawn and it would give her something to do. The brief shot of Dawn and Chloe talking in the opening makes me wonder if she'll appear again, but I also hope that they'll at least make room for Serena to return given that Chole hasn't met a Sylveon yet.

I think the opening visually looks amazing and has me looking forward to things to come
They definitely made Ash, Goh and even Chloe look good in the opening

I liked the shots where with Goh’s Pokemon it highlighted each gen
Funnily Gen 4 had the least but it had Dawn lol

I though exactly the same when I see Go, Koharu and Ash with their performaces. The use of flowers in the episode of Leafeon give me a similar impression too.
