Lately I have been listening to the different Pokemon OSTs, so I decided to ask what did you think of the ORAS music?

-What's your general opinion of the music?

- What's your opinion of the missing Gen III RSE themes in ORAS? Did you miss any of them? Like the Mauville Game Corner, some Frontier Facilities, etc which weren't included...

- What's your opinion of the brand new songs added in the game? Like Zinnia's, Going to Space, etc. which were not in Gen III?

- How do you rank ORAS music compared to the original RSE music?

- How do you rank the ORAS music with that of past remakes? Which one of the three remake ones do you prefer?

I just don't care for any of the 3DS Pokemon music in general...

My issue with it is that all the instruments lack that certain oomph that made them stand out on previous handhelds...trumpets especially for ORAS.

I missed the frontier facilities, those were really good tracks from the originals IMO

Zinnia's theme was interesting, but again was just too quiet and didn't really have an edge to it that past games have had...

RSE>>>>>>>>>>>>>ORAS

I prefer HGSS over ORAS, but ORAS over FRLG...ORAS really needed to at least remix/remaster the extra legendary themes, it was downright lazy to copy and paste them right into the game...."

I hope they up their game a bit next time with instrumentation, if I wanted it to sound like an orchestra I would have gone to the concert series that had this past year, I think that the aesthetic of the franchise not going realistic but more cell shaded and relaxed should reflect the music direction as well, the orchestration they are going completely clashes with the visuals...that's just me...

Personally, I think ORAS' soundtrack is fantastic, and even better than the original RSE one, which was outstanding.

The tracks present in RSE have all been either improved or at least on the same level with the originals, which is great. I don't remember even one that I liked more in RSE. I have practically nothing to criticize in the transition from the originals to ORAS.

However, what bothers me is the exclusion of the Mauville Game Corner theme... Although the Game Corner was closed, the music could've been used somewhere else, right? Same with the Frontier Facilities tracks: Pike, Factory, Pyramid, etc. Maybe you could listen to them all in a house or something? Idk.

About the new tracks, I like them as well, although I am not that impressed by Zinnia's and Wally's themes as most people seem to be. Going to space had a cool track, that one I like more!

Even the fact that they ported the legendary Pokemon themes instead of rearranging them, makes sense, as it reflects how the legendaries are basically being dragged to ORAS from their original dimension, which ties in well with Hoopa's rings.

My only annoyance with the music in ORAS is basically the lack of Mauville Game Corner music, and some of the Frontier Facilities themes.

But I don't know if i am being too strict by wanting them to include tracks that don't have an in game purpose (no Game Corner, no Frontier) in ORAS.

ORAS didn't destroy the tempo and general feeling of the soundtrack like HGSS, so it has that going for it. I'd say its not better or worse then the original soundtrack, its equal. There's not a lot you can really improve besides the quality, which they did. Its really the last soundtrack with room for improvement, and I feel it was sufficient. Not to say its nothing short of amazing, RSE has the best soundtrack in the series, and hearing it with better composition was excellent.
I don't miss the trumpets despite the nostalgia, and the new tracks are a cool additon.
Peoole ximplain that some tracks are missing the oomph and intensity that the teumpets gave the soundtrack, but I disagree. Sometimes it was a bit too intense, and it was a bit alien for the series. Take the rival theme, the lowkey feel to it is much more fitting for fighting your nextdoor neighbor, compared the trumpets blazing all ou for your firdt traner battle. Also the segueways for mixing the old theme with the new one for the primal battle is perfection, its such a wonderful concept considering its usage.

I pretty much agree with everything you said.

But did you expect them to add the Mauville Casino, and Frontier tracks from Emerald, like I did? I'm not sure if it's a logical expectations that I had, or was I expecting too much xD

I enjoyed the OR/AS soundtrack, overall. The old music was reworked well, and the new themes were nice. Zinnia's theme, Countdown to Destruction, the Primal battle themes & the Deoxys theme are some that stick out to me.

My overall favourite remake OST is the HG/SS soundtrack, as it contains the GB Sounds collection on the last disc. It's the closest we'll ever likely get to an official G/S/C soundtrack.

Shoutout to the Gym leader battle theme and Sevii Island themes from FR/LG soundtrack, though. They were great.

Btw, I read somewhere that in ORAS, GF used Zekrom's theme for Reshiram. I didn't notice this, personally. Is it true?

I have Alpha Sapphire, and Reshiram doesn't appear there so I haven't heard his theme. And did Kyurem get his own theme with the electric guitar, or did they all get Zekrom's theme for some reason?

I'm probably in the minority, but I wish they would have done something more with the soundtrack. Don't get me wrong, I love it and it's definitely an improvement, but most of the tracks seem like they just took the MIDI file from the original games and updated the instruments used. I wish more tracks were like the rival battle music or route 113, they added a new level of composition in some way. The updated elite four battle music was especially underwhelming for me. You can't even hear the sick bassline from the originals.

Overall, I do like the soundtrack. Don't get me wrong. I was just expecting more from it and so let myself down.

I'm personally hoping they go a more electronic route in the future, since until they record live instruments playing, the midi will ALWAYS sound like midi, and there's no getting around that.

OR/AS is IMO the first remakes without an overall inferior soundtrack to the originals.

HG/SS destroyed many good themes like Dark Cave, but there are some good remixes tho. There are only a couple of tracks I like more than G/S/C.

FR/LG soundtrack was just terrible for me.

OR/AS had some inferior tracks like the E4 battle theme, but also many superior tracks like the oceanic museum or the normal battle theme.

I really love it, but I wish they had added a GBA Sounds feature akin to HGSS.

I think they added the GB Sounds because the music was very different in HGSS, and they probably thought some people could be annoyed that it was too different from the original, and that's why GF included GSC's soundtrack as a bonus.

ORAS on the other hand was a lot more faithful to the originals, so a GBA music item would have been a bit redundant.

I'm pretty indifferent to the old tracks, but I am completely in love with the new ones.
Zinnia's encounter and battle themes, AZOTH, the new Sky Pillar, the going to space music, Wally's theme (I think this is new? I don't remember his theme in RSE)

Outstanding. The perfect fusion of nostalgia and innovation, much like ORAS as a whole.

Honestly, I hadn't noticed that some tunes were missing. I didn't particularly care for Mauville Game Corner's theme anyway. Now, Veilstone Game Corner? That's a whole other ball game...uh...excuse the pun.

The Soaring theme just blew me away! Ack! Where are these puns coming from?!
How do you rank ORAS music compared to the original RSE music?
The original versions were superb for their time, but music in the series has definitely had a noticeable improvement. The remixes in ORAS perfectly blend nostalgia and newness, much like the games in general, and are a real treat to hear.

The FRLG and HGSS tunes are good, though they lack a certain retro charm; this is especially true for HGSS's GB Player conversions, which sound a little off. ORAS, however, has the best remake soundtrack to date, at least in my opinion. It took a good soundtrack and made it into a superb masterpiece.

It all sounds very close to the originals, but made better with the newer hardware. So I like the soundtrack overall. Mostly for the over-world themes though, because Battle themes are kinda hit and miss to me. Having heard their re-orchestrations in Pokemon Colosseum, the Trainer/Gym/Champion themes just didn't stand out to me here. But I like Zinnia's battle theme, the Frontier Brain remix, the Elite 4 remix, and last but not least the theme for the Primals...That track is genuine perfection...I love how it weaves in bits of the GBA soundfont with the edgier, updated version.

Oh man, my mind was flooded with nostalgia during the battle with Primal Kyogre. It's a little thing, but it really captures the "newstalgia" which is ever-present in the game. Plus, it gives off a vibe of both mascots reverting to a primordial state, as though the soundtrack itself is undergoing Primal Reversion. In one word: epic.

Overall I think ORAS did a very good job updating RSE's music. Some songs that really benefited from the upgrade were the Rival Battle Theme, Mt. Pyre Exterior, and the Team Aqua/Magma Leader Battle Theme. Although some I prefer in their original formats like the Elite Four Battle Theme, and Route 113. And all of the original songs that ORAS had were great too, the stand out being Zinnia's Battle Theme. My only problem with them is how different they are from the rest of the soundtrack. It shows how Pokemon music has evolved, but I wish they had done that without making the new songs so drastically different.

Also I don't know how to categorize the Primal Reversion Battle Theme, but it was amazing. Mixing the new and old versions of the Super-Ancient Pokemon Theme worked wonders for the spectacle of that battle.

Newstalgia is the perfect definition of ORAS's soundtrack and ORAS as a whole. I love it :)

The soundtrack was all around pretty good. Some themes, like the Regi theme, we far weaker than the original, and other themes like the Team Admin themes, were stronger than ever. Overall, I liked it.
