This is the story of a world that's a mirror of our own. Called Gaia, it's very similar to ours. However, there is one key difference: Everything is stranger. For in the world of Gaia, the supernatural is real. Psychics, vampires, ghosts, all of them are real. They are studied by Paranaturalists, scholars of the strange. Your character is a young person who aspires to join their ranks, and is part of the Paranatural Study Club at the local Middle school. But little do they know, that a harmless after-school activity will turn into an amazing adventure.

Paranaturalists
A Paranaturalist is someone who studies supernatural phenomena. Objects, events, or creatures that don't conform to the normal rules of reality. Paranaturalists who have been recognized and licensed by the Global Paranaturalist Initiative, or GPI, are given many services. This includes lodging and access to many tools and resources civilians aren't allowed access to. However, becoming licensed is very difficult. This job is often very dangerous. Paranaturalists are often called in to study Kaiju, animals born with powers and mutations that make them a threat to humans. They also often battle rogue PSI users, ghosts, and all manner of other threats to humanity. Thus, not only must officially licensed Paranaturalists be very knowledgable about the paranatural, they must also be capable of defending themselves and others.

Abilities
The most common means is through the power called PSI. PSI, short for Psionics, is a paranatural ability anyone can develop. It can be obtained from training, inherited from parents, or recieved by chance from an uncommon event, such as being stuck by lightning. PSI powers can be anything, and while it's possible for one person to have more than one power, they tend to follow a certain theme, such as "Fire control" or "Turning into a metal werewolf with knife claws" or "Extrasensory perception."

On the world of Gaia, humans can become much stronger than ones in our world. Though the average person is about as strong as the average person in our world, through intense training, humans can achieve feats that we would consider impossible. There are people who can throw vending machines around, people who can breathe fire, people who can shrug off bullets like they were bug bites...The only problem is that this sort of training takes a lot of effort, and most people simply lack the ambition to do so.

Finally, there are many races besides humans. Sometimes, kaiju obtain sentience, and a few of them become Paranaturalists. People afflicted with the vampire or werewolf disease become paranaturalists so that they can find a cure for their ailment. Cyborgs are often created by the military and independent groups. In other words, paranaturalists can have any kind of power imaginable.

Gaia
Gaia is the same as our world in terms of geography. Countries like America and France all exist and have more or less the same borders. Politically, it's also mostly the same. However, the GPI operates as its own group. However, it usually cooperates with governments of any countries it operates in, and members that break the law, or at least do so too blatantly, are reprimanded. Usually.

Gaia has all the animals we have on our world, and then some. There are a lot of creatures that are stronger and smarter than the ones on our world. These include fire-breathing housecats the size of bears, dinosaurs, monkeys that know martial arts, and electric hedgehogs. These creatures are called Kaiju. While difficult, there are a few people who can train them.

As far as pop culture, they have more or less the same things we have. The RP is set in the late 90s/early 2000s. So Pokemon is popular, Seinfeld is on TV, and the Xbox and Gamecube and PS2 are out. It's still another world, so don't be too worried about keeping things totally accurate.

The tech level on Gaia is a little more varied than ours. Because humans on Gaia have more potential than ones on our world, technology is a little more impressive. But the really neat stuff isn't really widespread. So there are laser swords and plasma guns, but they're mostly relegated to elite military and the GPI. In the hands of normal people, guns are best for self defense. However, due to things like PSI and some people on Gaia training to be super strong and fast, archaic weapons like swords and battleaxes can be just as strong.

The RP will start in the town of Cedar Peak, Colorado. It's a large town, at the base of the mountain called Cedar Peak. It's March, and the snow is just starting to melt. Your character is part of Cedar Peak Middle School's Paranatural Study Club.

Rules
-No godmodding. So no autohitting, and while this is kinda a crapshoot, try not to make your character completely OP.
-Keep things PG-13ish.

Sign-Ups
Name: Pretty self-explanatory. What does your character go by?

Gender: Boy? Girl? Grody tentacle monster? Do you want me to check my privilege?

Age: Your character is part of a middle school club, so probably 12-14. That said, the club does let non-students join.

Appearance: What does your character look like? Humans on Gaia have a wider range of hair, skin, and eye color than on earth. So it's completely possible to have someone with naturally blue or pink hair.

Personality: How does your character act? This is gonna be a fairly light-hearted RP, so don't be shy about making your character a bit on the strange side. This section is optional.

History: Any important events? Feel like explaining why your character has the power to shoot lasers out of their fingers or is a sentient landborne squid? Feel free to put it here. This section is optional.

Powers: Your character isn't a full-fledged paranaturalist, but they probably have some ability that makes them able to hold their own against things like zombies and dinosaurs. Put either one strong power here, or two less strong powers. You can gain more as the RP goes on. Make them as simple or as complex as you like. For bonus points, give your power a snazzy name a la JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.


Example:
Name: Nick Cortez

Gender: Male

Age: 13

Appearance: Nick's a tall, thin young man, seemingly of latino descent. He has dark skin, and messy black hair. He has really, really dark brown eyes. His choice in fashion is a bit questionable. He has a flair for video game or anime t-shirts, and also fingerless gloves. He thinks they make him look like a character from one of his japanese cartoons.

Personality: Nick's a nice enough guy. But he's obsessed with video game and anime. He decided to become a paranaturalist mostly because he thinks it will be like being a video game character. He has a strong sense of justice, and dislikes people who pick on those weaker than him. He can be a bit harsh in this respect at times, however. While he is the founder of the Paranatural Activity Club, he's not really the leader.

History: Nick's mom raised him alone, and she spent a lot of time at work. So he was more or less raised by video games and TV. He had few friends, and was picked on a lot. After getting beat up when he was 12, the janitor of his middle school found him. The janitor gave him a book on Paranaturalists and the techniques they use to develop their powers.

Nick began to study it dilligently, and began to train. He stopped playing video games, because he knew that his life would be like one if he could become a paranaturalist. He eventually founded the Paranatural Activity Club.

Powers:
Imagine Sword: Nick's PSI power lets him create objects using his mind. He must meditate for long periods of time to create a new object. So he has only one as-is. He calls it the Imagine Sword. It takes the appearance of a large claymore. It has a dark-blue hilt with a cross-guard. The blade itself is about three and a half feet long. It's always polished, and very bright. It has no actual weight, so despite its size, Nick can wield it quite easily.
The blade is very sharp, since Nick's basically making a new one each time he manifests it. It can also deflect energy-based attacks. To manifest the blade, Nick must hold his hand put to his forehead. The hilt pops out, and he needs to pull the blade out of his head. It doesn't hurt, but it does tickle a little.

Conditioning: Ever since Nick decided to become a paranaturalist, he's been training. He's now in great physical shape. He can throw other people around like dolls, and can shrug off minor wounds easily. He's also quite agile, able to beat most of the track team if he pushes himself hard enough.

TL;DR
You are a middle schooler with awesome powers solving mysteries with other middle schoolers with awesome powers in a zany world.

Scooby-Doo meets Dragon Ball or HunterxHunter.

The RP will begin in one week.

Gender: Male

Age: 14

Appearance: Jett is moderately short, with white hair and pale blue eyes. His skin follows a similar theme, being extremely pale in terms of complexion, though that may be due to his abilities more than anything else. As for attire, he usually wears grey jeans, a plain white t-shirt, and a navy blue coat, regardless of the outside weather. In general, he always seems to be dressing for some freak winter storm year round.

Personality: Jett is unfortunately a bit cocky when it comes to his own capacities, often quick to strike and slow to exercise any kind of forethought. It's not that he means any ill by it, but he's just recklessly impulsive a lot of the time. Consequentially, he is also a very prideful individual, which further fuels his impulsive behaviors towards starting/jumping into fights.

History:

Powers: Chilled Constructs Jett is able to chill the air around his immediate body, allowing him to freeze water vapor and other forms of moisture to create somewhat sturdy weapons out of ice. These can range from simple blades to ice spikes to fire from a distance. This also is likely why his body seems to always be bone-chillingly cold even in the hottest of weather. Jett can also utilize this ability to add an icy edge to pre-existing conventional weapons, though this is rarely used. Most often, he will default to an icy spear as his main weapon. However, Jett can only use this ability as long as there is sufficient moisture to fuel it in the air nearby, and while his body does secrete some moisture that can be used to fuel it, doing so has vast physical effects on his stamina. Additionally, all of the applications for the skill are executed through his hands, meaning if he was incapacitated to where he couldn't properly use them, he'd be effectively powerless.

Gender: Girl

Age: 14

Appearance: Lilu has very long and bushy hair that's a light shade of lavender. She usually has it tied back into a ponytail. Her eyes are bright purple. Her fingernails are claws and she has fangs, a side affect of her lycanthropy. She wears leather boots and boot-cut jeans, and t-shirts that generally have some purple on them. Her smile looks a bit scary because of her fangs.

Personality: Lilu really likes people. She's super easily excited and loving. She acts a bit like a dog sometimes- for example, she turns around in a circle before she goes to sleep and she'll play fetch for hours on end. She gets very withdrawn and jumpy around the full moon, and avoids people so that she won't hurt them when she turns into a werewolf.

History: Lilu is actually half-werewolf and was born to a werewolf father and a human mother. Her powers are inborn because of this and they strongly affect her personality. She doesn't want to cure her lycanthropy because she feels it's too big a part of her to get rid of. Instead she wants to find other people who've been made sick or cursed by magic and help them.

Powers: Wolfy Morphing Powers: Even though she has no choice about transforming into a wolf on the full moon, she can also transform all or partly into a wolf and still have control of herself at pretty much any time.

Nose of Amazingness: Lilu's nose and ears are super-sensitive, which makes her an expert tracker and hunter, especially in wolf form.

Tends to wear a lot of clothing, bundling up their form somewhat, but it's fairly obvious they are slight of build underneath the excessive layers. They are roughly 5'1, with hair cropped just enough to not cover their eyes through some miracle of hairdressing. Generally, their usual outfit is a thick overcoat, with woolen layers beneath, and a thick scarf. The oversized woolens extend to about their knees, where sturdier cargo pants are more apparent.

Personality: Ray tends to be excessively quiet, going days without speaking, before eventually opening up with new people. Eventually. They dislike loud noises and crowds, preferring to keep to themselves or a trusted small group.

History: They were the result of a possession and botched exorcism at least 5 years ago although possibly a lot more than that. As such, their head is awash with the remains of the ghost that possessed them, and this interference makes their own memory difficult to access and interpret sometimes. Someone dropped them off (read: dropped out of a moving car) on the school's doorstep two years back, and they've been living nearby ever since.

Powers:
-The Talking Dead- Telepathic communication with ghosts. Remains of the ghost lurking in their head allow this. Only works with sufficiently strong spirits at this stage.

-Dissociation- Can effectively ignore a certain amount of damage, and continue fighting as if healthy, by essentially blocking pain signals from reaching them. Hella dumb.

Accepted. You can make your power a bit stronger if you feel so inclined.

Gender:Male

Age: 14

Appearance: Will stands at 5,3 and has a rather slender build, weighing about 120 lbs. He's the kind a boy whose small for his age, but he compensates for it with his intelligence and confidence. He has pin straight black hair, with long bangs and dark blue eyes with white olive toned skin. Will Typically wears a light blue long sleeved shirt with a yellow tie and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, with a pair of blue jeans and brown leather loafers. When in colder weather, he usually wears a royal blue double breasted cardigan with silver colored buttons.

Personality: Will is very independent for his age, having been orphaned at the age 5. He tends to speak with a rather educated vocabulary, his body language is very formal for a middle schooler. While he comes across as aloof and cold, it's actually more his attempt to maintain a professional appearance, along with his ineptitude with people that make him come across as an ice king. He's quite intelligent, and while he chooses not to get involved in silliness, he can easily be provoked when being given weird or insulting nick names, like "Pipsqueak". His hobbies include reading, writing, and chess.

History: Not much to it, he lives on his own since his parents passed away in an accident, while his grandfather provides for him financially. He was trained heavily in the use of firearms conjoined with psychic powers, making him quite dangerous for someone starting out.

Powers: Will uses what looks like an antique looking revolver called "Algernon". Instead of firing bullets, Will uses it as a medium to fire his own psych energy in compressed shots. He's an excellent marksman, who excels at attacking at range and keeping out of the opponent's reach through agility and acrobatics. However his close range skills are rather lack luster, and exerting himself too much with his gun will cause him to feel dizzy, and he will pass out if he tries to push himself to his limits.

Age: 8
Gender: Female

Appearance: Victoria is 3 foot 8, and weighs 96 lbs. She has red eyes and blonde hair that is done in two large pigtails. She is usually wearing a red dress, white shorts, and black shoes. She wears a red and white witch hat that cannot be removed by any physical means, due to being stuck.
She usually carries a foot long wand with her.

History: She only got in the club because she happens to be the daughter of the vice-principal.

Personality: Being a child, she lacks a very clear sense of morality, and only sees things in black and white. Anything good guys do is justified, anything bad guys do is evil. When questioned on this, she tends to make excuses.
She also tends to be a bit of a show off, especially when it comes to her power.

Power: By channeling her power into the wand and saying the magic words, she can create large blob of bubble gum, which she can freely reshape and manipulate. This gum can be reshaped into a variety of constructs, though their usefulness tends to be rather lacking (she hasn't figured out how to harden it yet). Using the wand again will cause the gum to vanish.
While the magic words aren't necessary, she insists on using them.

She can also manipulate pre-existing bubble gum, though she can't do as much with it as she can her own.

Age: 14
Gender: Male

Appearance: Ken has short spiky hair that he usually combs back so as to allow people to get a good look of his brown eyes, which he takes great pride in, he has white almost pale skin and wears a black long sleeved jacket that he keeps with the sleeves rolled up and ap air of black jeans. He also wears a red shirt underneth the jacket with the letters UQ in white. He also dons a pair of black and white sneakers and carries a long thin black katana on his back.

Personality: Ken is very earnest and straightforward in what he does, to the point that he has issues in thinking what he's going to do before actually doing it. As thus he tends to act rashly at times and has a bit of a temper once people are able to get on his bad side. Aside from that he's very friendly if a little simpleminded, usually having trouble understanding how others might feel depending on certain situations but still trying to understand and support them regardless anyways.

He's not the brightest of people and is very much a jock, preferring physical activity over mental one. Tha tbeing said he is pretty crafty when it comes to the situation and when in danger is able to think on his feet quickly.

History: Ken was born in a pretty normal family, something that he wasn't very happy with growing up. He always wanted to have a power and dreamed of one day becoming a Paranaturalist just like his grandfather used to be, unfortunately he wasn't able to inherit his grandfather's powers just like his father and as thus tried his best to forget about his dream.

One day he and his family were involved in a car accident, or at least as far as he can remember, he had lost consciousness and when he had come to he ws in a hospital. What he realized later is that during the accident he had somehow been found and bitten by a vampire. This caused Ken to be turned into a vampire as well, giving him increased strenght, speed, durability and healing powers. He didn't know what exactl had happened or who had turned him but decided to train himself and control his new powers.

Eventually he joined the club after transfering into the school with the hopes that he'd be able to learn more of what it would take to become a Paranturalist and try and find the person that turned him into a vampire.

Power: Thanks to his vampire abilities Ken has increased strenght, speed, durability and healt, something that allows him to withstand and regenerate practically any wound as long as he gets some time. He can also change the input of this abilities, meaning tha th ecan distribute his energy to increase his strenght or healing powers if necessary.

He also carries with him a sword that he himself called Blady, the sword is pretty much normal sword except that it comes with a switch that Ken can turn on and move around, this allows him to increase the weight of the sword. The more the weight increases the stronger it'll become as well as the heavier it'll get.

Appearance: Sid has tan'd skin and short, spikey black hair. He wears wide goggles on top of his head with a silver and blue horizontal striped T shirt. Sid also has black shorts and one blue armband.

Personality: Sid can be a little reserved around strangers and friends but he is generally nice once you get to know him. In the past his self confidence took a major beating but little by little he is getting his self esteem back together and will probably end up even more awesome than before! Loves it when it snows.

History: As a hardcore trading card game maniac, young Sid nearly foamed at the mouth at any chance to get his hands on shiny new cards. One day around the age of 10, while he was carefully tearing open booster packs of the popular TCG of the era, a glowing card granted him strange powers. Oddly enough, the kid already had massive magic power flowing through him without knowing it. Now he has both. Sid joins the Paranaturalists club as soon as he hears about it.

Power: King of Games (actually more like Peasant of games until he regains more confidence) Sid has access to a trans dimensional deck of cards, each card has a black backside with white star shapes all over. When Sid draws a card from this deck, almost anything can happen. But there are a few drawbacks, grabbing a card costs a certain amount of magic energy and it also costs energy for Sid to "activate" a card once drawn. Meaning that only a few cards can be used before Sid must stop and let his magic self recover. The other catch is that these special cards are directly linked to Sid's state of mind, fighting spirit or whatever you call it. Which means that until he gets stronger through experience or what have you, Sid's most powerful cards have a high chance of back firing or going out of control. The only exceptions being defensive or healing cards because Sid has no uncertainty about wanting to help others. Sid has been practicing for years but there is still some room for improvement.

Weapon of choice: Heavy TCG binder used like a club. (lugging around a backpack full of these things has given Sid a bit of upper body strength)

Gotta ask you to put a limit on what your powers can do. Like I dig the character, but if your dude can theoretically do anything that sorta obviates the need for the others. Maybe a list of two or three cards he can use and their effects? He can get more later.
 
Certainly, (his deck is larger than this but here are what some of the core card types could look like)

Health recovery for self or ally (amount depends on card)
Movement (I wanted to use a flawed Teleportation attempt in the first post but I can drop this if too over powered. Also possibly a high leap card or two?)
Summon monster or special attack for a one time use. (would be unreliable until much later on in the story. Each draw can be activated once but previously used spells can cycle back around eventually)


I made the cards trans dimensional so he doesn't have to worry about getting wet and to have it be easier to pull stuff from out of different card universe's. (my card game knowledge is pretty limited though)
Sid is more or less a glorified healer with some melee ability and potential to grow.
 
Yeah, but what exactly can the summons and attacks do? It just seems like he could use his powers to do more or less anything. The concept seems fun, I'd just prefer his abilities to be more specific.
