Pikachu in a detective hat returns to Pokémon GO in an event starting October 5th, to mark the upcoming release of Detective Pikachu Returns

Detective Pikachu Returns, the sequel to 2018's Detective Pikachu on the 3DS, will be released worldwide on October 6th. To commemorate the release of the game, Pokémon GO will be running a special Detective Pikachu Returns event, commencing October 5th at 10:00am, and running through to October 9th, at 8:00pm local time. Pikachu wearing a detective hat will return to Pokémon GO as part of this event.

Trainers who catch Pikachu in a detective hat will be able to evolve it to obtain Raichu wearing a detective hat.

Event Bonuses and Activities
The following bonuses will be active during the event period:

• Trainers can earn an encounter with Pikachu wearing a detective hat once per day by taking snapshots
• 2× XP for spinning PokéStops during the event

Timed Research and Collection Challenge
Free event-exclusive Timed Research will be available, with Trainers assisting Professor Willow in tracking down a "Pokémon of interest". Players who complete the Field Research tasks associated with this Timed Research will be able to earn an encounter with Pikachu wearing a detective hat. Trainers must complete this Timed Research and their rewards must be claimed before October 9th, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

An event-themed Collection Challenge will also be available as part of this event, requiring players to complete Field Research tasks.

New Avatar Pose
A Detective Pikachu Avatar Pose will be available for purchase from the in-game store from October 5th. This item is a permanent addition to the shop.
