Aloe is name of a plant, so I think grass type gym is more likely.

I'm not sure, but I think someone said that ALL Gym Leaders in the Japanese version have names of plants...
Also, if I'm right about Aroe being related to Iris and being a fire type GL, that makes me believe even more that Iris might get Pokabu

Was being sarcastic... still, I could see Dento's job to be more battle oriented then simply making food and healing the sick. Quite frankly, I don't see him be as outdoorsy and uber prepared as Brock. Hopefully he or Iris will do contests...

As for what type he's gonna specialize in... IDK... Electric appeals to me, but for in game reasons only, since fire types have a tough time against rock, grass against flying, it'd be cool if this time around, the first gym was tough for water pokes...

Yes, all Gym Leaders in the Japanese are named after a plant. Or actually a pun between a plant and their type of preference. Aroe is speculated to be a Steel Gym Leader, while Dento has been speculated as an Electric type one.

I don't know much about Iris being related to Aroe though... could be, could be not. Only time will tell.

What if Iris is a gym leader herself?

Is that question directed at me?

If it is directed at me, I don't believe she is. If she is however, then we will learn whether she is based on a game character or not much sooner P:.

I hope Ash pulls of a good fight against Dento though, and not an sorts of deus ex machina happens.

I guess it was directed to you. xP

Anyway, it occurred to me (after browsing it online) that Iris is also a name of plant, or a flower to be precise.

This is easy enough to find, but I'll post the link anyway:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_(plant)

Now I've got chills. If Iris is also a Gym Leader... gosh, I won't know what to think. Other than maybe they need to start feeding these Leaders something a little more substantial if all of them are turning out as puny as Iris.

I think Iris might be one of those girls that just do nothing and follow the guys arround. It'd be different than the other girls, the past ones have been in contests. Than again, I know fans would say she's a waste if she doesn't do any thing, course she could have a lot of screen time meh. I can't wait for offical posters.

Eh, Iris being a gym leader would be only explained by the fact that writers are following Masuda's example. Gamefreak wants to make the games Black & White more nostalgic by including possibly over 100 of new Pokemon just like in the original RBY games.

That would mean the writers are trying to reach the same thing by making both Iris and Dento gym leaders like in the original saga but with major differences. It almost feels like they're trying to make up for Misty and Brock for not having any actual goals, creating fresh character with enjoyable personalities, for which I'm sure they'll have.

And maybe, I'm just looking too much into it. It probably means nothing. We have to wait and see.

I guess Dento's fate in all this shall be a mystery. I have no idea what kind of pokemon he could have. His name simply means "to act in a refined manner", which would seem to fit the role they've given him in the anime. Of course, his role here should be no indication of what kind of pokemon he has. No type of pokemon immediately comes to mind as equaling high class, either. His gym is adorned with brown pokeballs, although we can't be certain if that really does indicate what type it is. I would not expect him to always have that type of pokemon unless they really want to preserve that about him. I do expect him to begin with the same pokemon he uses for the gym battle in the games.

Honestly, I sometimes forgot that Brock was a GL :/
(Maybe they'll fix this with Dento...I dunno)

I tend to forget that, too. I mean, how often is it mentioned in the show? And that's without saying that everyone would expect him to actually battle, as that's what GL's do. Instead, he only uses his Pokémon to... well, apart from Croagunk Poison Jabing him, they don't do much either. I just hope they don't make Dento another Brock.

The thing that makes me curious him is this: it's been speculated that he might use electric type Pokémon, and with Dento joining Ash in his joruney through Isshu, how will the writers handle his Pokémon in relation to Ash's Pikachu? Apart from Dawn's Pachirisu, electric Pokémon have been somehow banned from joining the main cast, but if Dento turns out to be electric-type, then they'll have to change this situation.

Where is this about Aloe being a Steel-type trainer and Dento being an Electric-type trainer coming from?

But if he is, he better have an Emonga!

Aloe sounds like "alloy" and 'Den' in Japanese is a suffix for electrical things, like Volkner whose Japanese name is Denji (there's also Denryuu, Ampharos' Japanese name, too). And yes, he MUST have an Emonga!

I'm sorta afraid of Iris being a gym leader... Only because it would then be inevitable that hundreds of comparisons to another female character who is a gym leader would be made.

More senseless bashing is never a good thing.

I could see Dento being a psychic type gym leader. I mean I've always said that Koromori seems like the perfect pokemon for Dento with his whole friendship thing going on and Koromori has that heart theme that could be a symbol for it or something.

But I wouldn't mind if he had any other type such as being an electric gym leader like people suggest.

Even though we've seen gym leaders join Ash before, it's nice to see it happen again since the last we've seen this was back in Kanto. I wonder what would be the reason for Dento to travel with Ash and co. Maybe he'll go the Juan/Wallace/Jasmine/Fantina route and do contests or something? Assuming his whole Pokemon Sommelier isn't the only thing he'll do in the show that is.

Can't wait to see more from Dento.

It's funny, the heroine we're getting seems more mysterious than our second male character. Which is nice, I like Iris' goal and everything else about her are pretty open ended at this point. More surprise when see what she does on the show.

You do know that an aloe is an African plant. Right?

Yes, so what? ALL the Gym Leaders are named after plants in Japan, so the name Aloe doesn't mean she'll be a grass type specialist, at much it only tells you about her ethnicity, which wasn't a mystery to begin with.
