Anyway, I'm still holding onto the hope that he's a coordinator.

If contest stays, I kind of find it hard to imagine them letting a guy do a quest that caters to girls and has been done by a female character for the past decade. And yes, the way he dresses, Dento looks like a coordinator, but he dress that way because he's a sommelier/waiter, not for coordinating. Likely he'll be wearing something else more casual when he travels.

Iris, the way she looks, I also find it hard to see her doing contests or musicals. I can only see her doing a special quest that has to do with wilderness or exploring etc...

I think it would be good idea to make Dento a coordinator,a quest that appeal to girls will be there and in addition people who think that girls can be tough too, can enjoy Iris's quest. This will destroy the stereotypes.

No, he's shown in this outfit in the poster with Iris and Kibago... no reason to advdertise him in random clothes instead of his main outfit
I'm sure this will be his main outfit...

Anyway... about Dento doing Contests... I don't know, it'd be strange to see a sidekick do Contests... though in case it happens, we'd still have an equal star heroine like Dawn (Iris) and the girly plot (Contests), just not both in the same character... so I guess it can happen, especially with Dento's design apparently being "girly" as some say...

But we still can't be sure on anything... I wonder what Iris would do if Dento is the Coordinator (or if there's no Contests at all, which will be sad but possible)

Dento... I hope his main goal doesn't have anything to do with pokemon musicals...

No one was talking about skin tone, you're the one who brought it up in this post. Though since you mention it, he's paler in his game art than in the anime, perhaps they thought he didn't have the white part of his eyes.

Perhaps its because Sugimori's style got better while the anime didn't. Let's just hope its a case of bad animators with that character design and he'll look better.

That's the biggest color difference so I mentioned it.

They did pretty good with emulating everyone else. Why did they accidentallu give Dento a less bishonen look white-less eyes?

All of you shouldn't judge Dento based on his official anime art and a badly animated episode clip.Just look at, compare her game artwork with her anime artwork, she looks horribly off-model and looks like a fanart.

I really don't see them taking Pokemon Musicals and making it one of the main characters goals. If anything, I think they might have an episode or two focused around them and that's it. I really hope they keep contests and that Dento competes in them along with whatever title they already gave him.

The most logical thing to do would be the insert Musical into Contests
As an additional round (or instead of performance, though I'd like performance to atay)

I'd rather them just ditch contests altogether, personally. I feel we've more or less seen it all now, and since they've gone as far as bringing in two new main characters this time around, while there are bound to be a few...uhh...bounderies in place, it's obvious they're not feeling as restricted when it comes to what they can and can't do on the show. Idealy they won't have a set 'career' path at all, and their introduction to the series will be purely story driven, but I suppose that's wishful thinking on my part.

If they do include musicals as one of the main goals, I hope that they kind of combine it with contests and still have battles and stuff. Or even have three rounds of contests with one being putting on an act.

Well they could have the Musical part replace the appeal round. So even if they keep some type of battling, it'll seem different as the appeals will be gone and replaced with musical stuff.

But yeah, I feel like they've done all they can with Contests. They've been around for almost a decade and they've made around 35 of them in total.

With this logic, Gyms are even worse...
Anyway, in the games Musicals is pretty much identical to the DPt games' Super Contests... so I say either it becomes a part of the regular Contests in the anime, or the anime ignore it
Of course, there's still a chance they'll completely replace Contests... but I think that would be stupid since it'll be very similar

Also, if they do keep Contests and add dress up and dancing, it'd be stupid that it happens NOW with Iris/Dento/whoever, and not in DP with Dawn - since that what the DP games did to Contests...

I honestly don't think a main boy doing contests would hold interest much.

I dont know how the hell people can imagine the writers having musicals as one of the main goals in the anime. Stop dreaming, they won't have something as tedious as that as a main goal. They'll treat it as they treated Pokethlon - one ep about it only, then throw it in the trash.

LOL, kinda harsh, etc?

Pokeathlon got screwed over because it came in the middle of a gen, so the writers had no time to make a big deal out of it. This Musical stuff comes at the start of a gen.

If contests are out, and the second goal is to advertise the second goal in game, musicals will have to come in. If contests are featured in game, then yes they will return.

To be honest musicals look similar to the dress up and dance portion of Super Contests. I think it'd be pretty redundant if musicals replaced contests if we see a performance round and a battle round. I think it's better if musicals are implemented in the performance round of contests instead.

I sorta agree with that and quite frankly given the obvious city v nature, modern v traditionnal themes surrounding Dento and Iris, I think we'll see them introduce in that sense. Though I'd like them to get their own quest along the way since I don't want solely Ash to get gyms and the other two just wait around for the Reshiram/Zekrom Nature/Civilization plot to kick in.

Meow... claws are out!! Let's rip that evil musical...

But in essence, I sorta agree. Musicals do sounds terribly similar to in game dress-up and dance portion of super contests and I don't really see any of the main quests not having to do with some sort of battling. If they don't merge contests and musical, then yes, I sorta see musicals only getting one episode. The problem is the same as pokeathlon, no battles.

That problem also existed with Contests; the writers simply tacked on the battle round. Granted, they eventually found a way to make the battles seem connected to the appeals, but that wasn't always the case.

It has occurred to me that Iris may promote the High Link feature where players complete various missions. Now, the in-game missions revealed up till now all have to with items, but the anime wouldn't have to be faithful to the games in that regard.

Some of the missions are just normal battles, so if nothing more Iris' quest could have her battle strangers, which is something that Ash rarely does. Furthermore, she could also find random partners for tag battles. Finally, the missions could have Iris actively stop Team Plasma, rather than accidentally bump into them on her merry way to the next town.
