I'm excited for the Hyper Training. I'm curious to see if Kojiro would be ready to exchange its precious bottle caps of his beloved collection. And the Alolan Meowth;.. I'd like to see the James's family in an episode about it... If only...

I'm excited by the fact that
Lila/Anabel could appear!
But the fact is:
Lila/Anabel is growing "older" than what she was in Emerald
Will it really be possible when the anime no more valuing any overall cross-series continuity?

Or alternatively:
Ash is finally growing older somewhere during this season!
(Though highly unlikely, in the same possibility as the chance of Ash winning any in-game regional league)

Please make this region and series great in the anime writers! The pokemon anime needs some redemption.

Well, I went and did a marathon of the ten trailers released of S&M anime + preview of S&M001/002 to see how many 7th generation mons + Alolan forms are going to appear/debut in the first episodes and lord, I think they're rushing a bit, no? the list:

Bewear
Turtonator
Bounsweet
Litten
Popplio
Pyukumuku
Grubbin
Alolan Exeggutor
Tapu Koko
Togedemaru
Yungoos
Rockruff
Rowlet
Mimikyu
Pikipek
Bruxish
Komala
Salandit
Comfey

I mean, there are only 99 new mons including alolan forms and probably most of the legendaries and ultra beasts will be saved for movies or specials :s

Will it really be possible when the anime no more valuing any overall cross-series continuity?
Regardless of the ageing aspect of this (after all, time-related elements have been consistently ignored by the anime!
I am hoping that this series will mark the return of some cross-series continuity. After all, it was only XY of all the series which had so very little.
Besides which I find it hard to believe that the writers will forgo a chance presented like this on a platter to bring Handsome/Looker back!

I have been doing my best to avoid spoilers on the games, so I can't say whether or not the anime would incorporate elements from the games' storyline. However, I do hope that the show will be fun and enjoyable, regardless of how much of a faithful adaptation is is of the storyline. The anime tends to do its own thing more than strictly being an adaptation, for better or for worse, but the last few trailers have been really good. I like how happy and exciting the series looks and seeing all of the new Pokemon and characters is pretty awesome. As long as the series has good characters, good battles, an engaging story and is all around fun to watch, I'll probably be happy with that.

One thing I do hope is that SM doesn't overdo it with advertising Z-moves. I get that they're Gen 7's signature shtick and all, but I really didn't like the massive overglorification they gave to Megas in late XY which ended up often replacing actual strategy. I hope we'll get to see more improvised moves and strategies like in DP and early XY, they're one of the most fun parts of the show if done right imo. Hell, Ash could even start improvising to counter other Z-moves.

Of all the artwork material I've seen of Ash in the new SuMo series, this poster is definitely my favorite by far.

This depiction of him, for me, looks more like the Ash I have come to know over the course of the anime's run as I have watched him grow and mature (regardless of his numerical age) from the original Kanto saga to the end of Sinnoh, and then picking back up with Kalos. This looks like the Ash that is capable of dealing with the emotional distress of an abused Pokémon (yes, I'm referencing Chimchar). This Ash looks reminiscent of the take-no-prisoners side of Ash that emerged, and we became familiar with, through his journey in Kalos.

When that first round of artwork came out, with that look on Ash's face that seemed to suggest that he felt he looked like a complete dork doing the Z-move pose thing, coupled with the original description of the series as being centered on comedy & slapstick, that understandably upset a lot of people in the fandom.

Look, Pokémon is a product, and we are the consumers of that product. And when you've been hawking Ash to us for 20 years, the majority of those years portraying him in a certain way, (not getting into the BW thing) and then you do a sudden complete 180 in how you are presenting your product to us, that is naturally going to throw the consumers of said product off in a big way.

If the marketing folks had thought to put out their artwork with this portrayal of Ash first, and then afterwards made their release blurbs about how the show was also going to focus some more on comedy with some slapstick thrown in here and there for good measure, I don't think most folks in the fandom would have become so upset over it. It probably would have been more like - we understand the basic foundation of the show is being built on a serious tone, but then they're going to make a concerted effort to include more humor into the show.

All things considered, I am feeling pretty positive about how they're portraying Ash to us on the new poster. I'm slowly getting used to how they've redesigned him but I know, for me, I'm going to have to see the actual full-length episodes to be able to really process the change fully. The clips are nice, but they bounce back and forth between various scenes and I just need to see the full scenes play out.

I'm excited by the fact that Lila/Anabel could appear!

"could" being the keyword there. Doesn't mean it will.

If they couldn't use the World Tournament to bring back old characters in BW (Dawn and Cynthia don't count since it hadn't been long since we saw them), I doubt they'll use the Battle Tree to.

Besides, it's been so long--and so unimportant--I bet a lot of people don't care. Arceus knows the kids this show is made for wouldn't get it...

Oh, I'm not against it. In fact I'd be all for it. But the way the producers seem to refuse to bring back old friends unless they're desperate or lazy (depending on how you look at it) gives me much pause in getting my hopes up

They won't be able to adapt this:-
"I am not your mommy"
(It was said to Lillie by her very own mother, the boss of Aethar foundation)

I doubt they'll use the Battle Tree to.
But doesn't she have a plot-role? Or a post-game? Or something?

That being said the points you make are absolutely valid and until and unless some serious cross-series continuity is brought back I too will remain cynical that it ever will...

I've put all my continuity hopes in the Anime's 20th anniversary, thanks to

Ash's Pikachu. If it was Pikachu with the OS cap and the SM cap I would not care, but it's a Pikachu with ALL of Ash caps. There has to be something that celebrates all series.

Not the biggest fan of the anime nowadays but I am actually kinda interested in seeing where this series goes. I mean of course I'd rather not see Ash and Team Rocket there, but the new characters seem cool. Let's see where it goes.

For irony purposes, I hope Ash catches an Alolan type Rattata/Ratticate (he can trade it away or release it afterward).

Here are some summaries of the Sun and Moon anime, which Dephender translated. There are also new images as well.
