Preview Pocket Monsters the series (2019)

Because all-female casts are often targeted only at women (unless it's ecchi or whatever), but Pokémon tends to be targeted at both boys and girls. I mean I'm open to the idea of dual male protagonists, but it does feel weird if there's no girls in the main cast, at least for this show.
I still hod to my idea, that this new anime will give Ash and Go for each region, one female companion. Maybe even the former lead characters like Misty, May, Dawn, Iris, etc.

Some thoughts I have:
  • The series will not start in Galar, but in Kanto.
    • Satoshi will only travel to Galar after a while (I'm expecting February) and he will do the badge quest there when he does get there.
    • However, Galar will still be introduced (see next point).
  • From now till February, I'm expecting there to be a tournament arc where important trainers from everywhere show up in Kanto.
    • This is where the Galar promo can come in as important trainers from Galar should appear in the tournament as well.
    • We will revisit many of the older characters and their stories may be retold here for the new generation.
  • There will not be dedicated years to the various regions and hence no badge quest in the other regions.
    • Satoshi and Gou will travel to this and that region for specific activities in one-off episodes or mini arcs at the very most.
Now a question I have is whether Satoshi will have any of the Galar starter. The only Galar starter I could see him having was Scorbunny and it went to Gou. His signature pokemon will always be Pikachu, perhaps it may indeed be better off for the starters to be associated with other trainers. I think Bede/Marnie with Sobble and Hop/Gloria with Grookey will be nice.

English name for Gou? Gower? :wynaut:

Ash is guaranteed at least one starter, since he is the main source of marketing, so he is prolly getting Sobble.

That doesn't necessarily confirm that there won't be a female cast member though. It could be a case similar to DP where Ash and Go are effectively co-protagonists, so it still comes off as a big assumption more than anything else to me, especially when people are claiming that it is confirmed that
I don't think I said anything about whether or not there will be a female companion? Just that the trailer said "double protagonists" and about the possible ways that they could introduce one later, since there doesn't seem to be anything else about other characters.

I do agree that basically what we have is all we have: aside from Ash, Go, Pikachu, Scorbunny, and the posters, nothing else is confirmed. Speculations in "finalized statements" might be best rephrased so people don't get confused on what the anime team will and won't do.

unless there's someone's uncle who works on the team and has inside information about their decisions

Pretty surprised that we may have only 2 main characters here. I'm already having some low expectations...
Eh, it's still too early to have that assumption in my opinion. When Diamond & Pearl were being introduced, most of the early teasers focused on Dawn and then moved to Ash, Dawn, and Paul; Brock wasn't even featured. Then Ash, Dawn, and Brock became a trio come the series proper. We won't really know until my birthday November 17th.

Waiting for the big surprise, TPC pulls a 180° and reveals Gou is the rival for Ash or maybe they start out journeying together but eventually go their separate routes just to have clashes every once in a while.
Yeah, well, I'll be just waiting for more, occasionally throwing in some ideas that pop up as time floats along and then see what actually is going on in "Pocket Monster". Man this might get irritating when I want to watch stuff about the new series but always just get Indigo League slapped in my face...

Is Ash still the champion??????
I'm inclined to believe so. Going on a world tour of sorts seems like a kind of "next step" for ash after becoming a champion. Traveling unsupervised all over the world also implies that Ash must be considered more mature now. Remember he needed an escort to fly to Kalos, and went with his mom to Alola. Plus, statements implying that winning a league is "one step" of becoming a Pokemon master probably means that they won't retcon his achievement.

There's also a dedicated site for Sun & Moon. In fact the dedicated sites for XY, BW, DP and even AG are still up as well. So nothing new here, really.
The old ones all fall under the general Pokemon site: pokemon, pokemon_ag, pokemon_dp, pokemon_bw, pokemon_xy, pokemon_xyz and pokemon_sunmoon. The new one is pocketmonster.

Yup! By looking at that calendar it seems like Sobble would belong to Ash whilst Grookey to Gloria or other Female Companion that will journey with Ash and Go in Galar.

That's just each section's name, the domain is the same for all of them. The new one is pocketmonster because of the new series having that unique title and not following the pattern from previous ones, but it's not like it's overriding the "pokemon" the previous series had since there's no slash ( / ) separating them.

I think that it's possible that we could see new characters join Ash instead of old ones.

I thought that you were using the double protagonist line from the trailer as a way to explain why people believe that a female character won't be part of the group. My mistake. Sorry about that.

I just want to say I really like the idea of Ash and Gou being rivals. This is hinted at by being presented in blue and red in the trailer respectfully, and both having similar ambitious (and impossible) goals. If there is some kind of world-wide event (champions league, etc.) it would make sense for both of them to constantly find themselves in the exact same region, even if they don't travel together. Also because they are both considered protagonists, the story can be told from both of their points of view, which assuming they aren't travelling together will give us two concurrent storylines which would be cool. They will probably have very similar personalities that will clash, and of course after hating each other's guts and constantly competing, they will eventually grow to respect each other and become close friends.

You know, this reminds me of a character from DP.

Aoi from the Sinnoh summer camp arc. Coincidentally, she is a girl who looks very much like a boy, to the extent that Ash assumed she was one. They couldn't get along because they had such similar personalities, but grew to respect eachother...yadda yadda. Who knows, maybe Gou IS a girl and the twitter posts were only meant to misdirect us.

I should also add that this would fully open up Ash's companion slots for new or past characters.

If this will be set in an AU universe. Plus, M20's credits did show Ash's old companions, so there is a chance of them still showing up in whatever region the two protags will be in.
