PokeAni Missed Opportunities

The Anime missed out on discarding Wally when he could've been a pretty unique rival for Ash. Rather than a random Hoenn League competitor stealing the win from him, maybe Wally could’ve battled Ash over the course of AG and been the underdog before defeating him in the League's Top 4. Alain worked as a league rival who was well established before but I mean one who Ash had to encounter in the region.

  • Showing the effects of Team Galactic creating a new universe has on the entire Sinnoh region and neighboring regions during the whole incident.
  • Showing the effects of the major storms going on throughout the planet during the second movie, it only showed the effects on Kanto a little bit and the Orange islands. They can just simply showed flooding in some random town, a rather huge sand storm ravaging a desert city somewhere, beaches being destroyed, and endless possibilities of what can be shown.
  • Telling what happened to Charon after the Team Galactic incident, he just vanishes. They can replace the episode involving Heatran and the Pokemon Ranger instead have Charon trying to capture Heatran, but was stopped by Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Looker and he gets arrested.

They actually showed that in the early trailers.

Natural catastrophes happen at 0:22. What appears to be Tamamushi City (?) and Safari Zone, among other locations, got completely fucked.

They sure knew how to make movie trailers back in the day...

Anyway, the biggest missed opportunity is a Ho-Oh arc in Johto. They should have had Ash encounter the three beasts as a prerequiste to obtaining the Rainbow Wing, maybe tie in the GS Ball for a time travel story about Ecruteak's lore, and finally have Ash summon Ho-Oh. As a result, Ho-Oh would have regained the connection to Ecruteak with its faith in humans restored. And Ash's story would have ended.

Would've been better than filler galore. When I was watching the series, I doubted if Ash would even reach blackthorn for his badge.

Several game characters like Charon and most integral villainous team members in general didn't meet their full potential, and some important characters like Zinnia and AZ didn't show up at all. And I'm still salty about the Chatelaines getting snubbed as well.

The Aether Foundation should be in the story from the get-go, shown as responding to danger or being in the background as patrolling for said danger. I mean, even if they don't want to jump the gun with Ultra SM coming, they could at least make use of them and change gears if they get orders from uptop.

It's too early to call the Aether Foundation not appearing a missed opportunity since we're only 32 episodes into Sun and Moon. Team Flare didn't appear in the anime until 94 episode into X&Y if you're not counting the mega evolution specials.

Team Flare plot isn't a big part of one of the main characters' storylines.

And you're not counting them because?

It seems the anime won't have Nebby.
Right now it's too early to call Nebby not appearing a missed opportunity since we're only 18 episodes into Sun and Moon. Zygarde didn't make it's first appearance until 94 episodes into X and Y along with the forth Mega Evolution special. The only seventh generation legendary Pokemon to appear in the anime is Tapu Koko and most legendaries don't appear as early as the first episode of the series and the only other legendary Pokemon that did this is Ho-Oh and Mesprit. Tapu Koko is the only legendary Pokemon who is appearing in 5 episodes out of the first 19 episodes and counting (not counting Solgaleo and Lunala since they only appeared in the opening). We haven't seen the other Tapu Pokemon yet as of the writing of this post. For all we know, Nebby could appear just before or just after Ash and his friends go to the second island and that could be sometime around episode 25+, but then again I'm just speculating. Nebby will appear eventually, we just have to wait.
And now 6 months, 2 weeks, 5 days later, and 44 episodes in, Nebby will appear in the anime along with Lillie's mother and some others. :p

Now 3 months, 2 weeks, 1 day later, and 46 episodes in, the Aether Foundation is finally making an appearance.

This is why you shouldn't call things in the games a current generation a missed opportunity until towards the end of the generation since some of those things (like here on this post) will appear eventually, and now look where we are. You can call current generation a missed opportunity, but keep in mind that they will appear eventually a few weeks/months later and start making your post kind of wrong. You can still call events in past arcs in the generation a missed opportunity such as most of Ash's old Pokemon not showing up in the Kanto arc.

1. Miyamoto never appearing in the anime, even in a special episode.

2. Musashi and Kojiro's backstories are a big mess and lots of things were never explained in depth or were retconned. In the end we stil don't even have a clue how they ended up in TR. It's a big shame since they're imo the most interesting and complex characters on Pokemon.
