"All right, looking at your new born Pokemon, I can say that you've all done a good job," Brock nodded his head as he started listing everyone's grades on his sheet. "All right, now, let's start class."

***

After class was done Alex was on the transporter as Drake tapped on his shoulder. "Hey man, how are you?" Drake asked him while smiling. A Growlithe on his head.

"Was that the Pokemon you got?" Alex asked.

'Yep, cute isn't it." Drake laughed. "Where's Carey?" he asked.

"Ever since a little accident that happened a few days ago she just gets out of class and heads back to her apartment." Alex answered.

Kyle had made the decision to skip breeding. Instead, he was outside by the water enjoying the blessings of a beautiful day. One of the things that Kyle liked most about the academy island was the weather. After all, it reminded him of the always warm and sunny climate of his adopted home town of Lilycove. At the moment, he was basking in the afternoon sun leaning against his surfboard with a content smile on his face. He had a book on his lap; on the cover was the famous surfing gym leader Brawly, and the book itself was the former leaders memoirs on both training and surfing.

Kyle was about to stand up and get a surf in when he had an impulse that he should turn around. He did and his premonition was correct. Walking in his general direction were two girls who brought a smile to his face. It wasn’t their looks that made him happy, although they were both thin, shapely and had pretty faces, but what they were wearing. The girl on the left, who had long flowing blonde hair and ice blue eyes, was wearing a tight black top with a James Dalton jersey over it. The girl on the left, who had somewhat exotic looking features, slightly shorter brown hair and sea-green eyes, was wearing a tight Lilycove Blaziken’s t-shirt.

Kyle, being who he was, couldn’t resist the temptation. Leaving his book on the ground, but picking up his surfboard, walked casually over to the girls and tipped his amber aviator sunglasses off his eyes as he said playfully, “I notice that both of you two are James Dalton fans.”

The girls looked at him and rolled their eyes simultaneously. “So?” The blonde asked Kyle bluntly.

“So, you want to meet him?” Kyle asked the girls, who both rolled their eyes once more.

“Yeah, we would like to meet him.” The brunette said this in a voice that made it clear that she thought Kyle was a complete fraud.

“Alright then.” Kyle pulled out his phone and called James.

“Hey kiddo, what can I do for ya?” James asked Kyle.

“Can you come by for a few… I’m at my favorite surfing spot.” Kyle told James.

“Sure.” James cut the connection. Kyle was grinning at the girls, who looked confused.

“I’m Kyle by the way. Kyle Drake.” Kyle introduced himself and the girls actually looked thoughtful.

“We’ve heard that name a lot lately.” The blonde said carefully. “I’m Liz and that’s Elise.” Kyle was about to respond when there was a crack and a flash. Standing five feet away was James Dalton. He was wearing his red, white and gold basketball shoes, black dress pants, a white t-shirt and a black fedora tipped low over his eyes and cocked slightly to the right.

“Hey cuz.” Kyle resisted the temptation to laugh. “Liz, Elise… meet my cousin and adopted father James ‘The Hoenn Heartbreaker’ Dalton.” He pronounced and James tipped his fedora in greeting.

Liz and Elise took one look at James and then both girls squealed. Loudly. “Oh. My. God. It’s really him!” Elise shouted after a moment and then both girls started screaming and jumping up and down in excitement.

“This is why I called.” Kyle muttered to James, who was grinning.

“I thought so.” James whispered back slyly. “So I sign a couple of autographs, they take pictures on their cellphones and you get the glory?”

“Exactly.” Kyle answered.

“I’m such a good father…” James muttered sarcastically before doing just what he promised.

“James James James!” Liz and Elise were shouting. “Can you sign our shirts?” James actually smiled at this request; this was something common that he got considering his talent and his model caliber looks. Of course, his wife disliked this particular behavior immensely. There was a reason his basketball nickname was the Hoenn Heartbreaker and it wasn’t strictly his ability to do magical things with a basketball in his hands.

“I’d love to.” James pulled a felt-tipped pen out of his pants pocket and signed personalized autographs on both girls’ shirts. After they snapped a number of pictures with him on their cellphones, James said goodbye and left.

“So, I guess I wasn’t messing with you then.” Kyle pronounced after James vanished into thin air.

“No, you were not.” Liz admitted. “Listen Kyle, we’ve got to run, but please… call us sometime.” She slipped a piece of paper into his hand and both girls ran off. When Kyle looked at the paper, he saw their names (with the ‘I’s’ in each name dotted with a heart instead of a dot) and their phone numbers and apartment address.

“Score.” Kyle grinned as he looked out to the water. “Thank you cuz.”

"Ya, I wonder whats up with her," Andrew said, walking up behind him. "I mean, it should be all in the past now, shouldn't it?"

"She still feels bad, you really don't know anything about girls." Alex sighed as he saw James and Kyle and what the two did. "I guess it really helps." Alex said as he got down. *But at least now I don't have to call him* he thought as he got to them trying his best not to fall off. "Hey James."

"Yeah?" James spun around to face Alex. He was just about to go home when he heard the boy's voice. He looked slightly preoccupied, but he still walked over to Alex. "What's up?"

"Heh, I guess I don't," he said, smiling. What's he doing? he wondered when Alex walked over to James.

"Could you talk to Carey, she's been a bit off because, well I'm sure Kyle can give you the play by play since it's mostly his fault." Alex said frowning as he looked at Kyle.

"He already told me what happened." James told Alex. "Well he didn't tell me... but I have my ways of finding things out." He said vaguely. "Sure, I'll go talk to her. Do you know where she is?"

Kyle heard their conversation, but didn't interrupt or choose to defend himself. After all, Alex did have a point, and getting into an argument really wouldn't help all that much. So Kyle was simply content to listen and see what happened.

"Ah yes..." James was smiling at Andrew now. "I'm also aware of the fact that you were involved... don't blame yourself though... you didn't do anything wrong." James told Andrew honestly.

"I didn't? Well, it sure feels like it," he sighed, feeling guilty for causing all of this.

"If it's anyone's fault... its the girl." James told Andrew. "Based on what I know about what happened, both you and Kyle didn't choose to do anything... granted you chose to resist and Kyle didn't, but that's more a difference in personality than anything else."

"She's at her apartment." Alex answered to James. "But it's also my fault I should've made her feel better."

James knelt down next to Andrew and Alex and smiled reassuringly. "This is not either of your fault." This was said slightly sternly in an attempt to make Andrew realize that he wasn't at fault. "I understand you're concerned about Carey, and I'm thankful that you are... but don't feel guilty about something that you couldn't have prevented or changed. I'll be right back. I'm going to see Carey." James told them and vanished in a flash.

He reappeared outside Carey's door. He knocked and said, "Hey Carey... it's your brother. Can I come in?"

Carey opened the door and let him in. 'What is it?" she asked

"I just wanted to stop by and see how you were doing." James told Carey. He knew that he needed to approach the conversation carefully because of how well his younger sister-in-law knew his usual tricks.

"Hey Alex," Andrew said. "Should I be worried about Carey, or should I leave that to you?"
