"Arceus..." Kyle breathed out of shock. He had mistakenly assumed that Sam's super strength came from the suit that she wore in combat. "Well, it looks like I've got some work ahead of me then."
"Yup, if you want to compare yourself with her. Now, I want to see 20 laps on that!" Chuck said, pointing to a track that mostly made up of platforms that had bars in between them just right to if you misjudge your step, major wipeout.
Kyle took a careful look at the track before nodding. "Yes sir." Kyle said before getting to it. Kyle's speed and natural athletic ability allowed him to keep a reasonable pace and also not fall. For the early going at least.
"He's even worst than what my sister said about you when you were his age," Carey sighed. "I'm just gonna leave it at that we always end up fighting." she frowned.
James just laughed for a few moments. "You see why he and I are so close then..." James told Carey before thinking about what to say next for a moment. "Look Carey, I'll be the first to admit he's a bit of womanizer... but you have to look at his good qualities as well. That's what your sister realized after a few years."
"I don't see any good qualities in it honestly," Carey argued still frowning. "If all I'm always getting in trouble because of him, I even risked my own neck to give him a chance to repair his grades and not get expelled and what does he do, he yells at me."
"I heard about that Carey." James told her. "And as much as I appreciate the gesture, you have to understand something... kids like him, like I was... we hate rules and restrictions. And we rebel against anyone who tries to enforce them. So even though you were trying to help Kyle, he thinks you were trying to make his life miserable." James explained. "Look, I think you can see some good qualities if you just look past the ego and the womanizing... because you always seemed to think highly of me... and I'm pretty much the same as him."
"Yeah but there's a difference, you grew up...to a extent," Carey shrugged. "So why don't you tell me what these qualities are because I don't see them."
"You're not making this easy for me you know." James chuckled. "Well he's loyal to his friends, he's willing to help them out no matter what, he's reasonably intelligent when he chooses to apply it, he knows how to make people laugh, he's a talented athlete and a good trainer who cares for his Pokemon..." James rattled off a quick list.
"No but I don't think he could anyways," Carey frowned. "What I hate the most is the fact that well...everyone likes him, I mean everyone's always around him thinking he's so cool but what do I get, I worry about everyone else and the only thanks I get is people not caring what I say just ignoring me most of the time and treating me like the bad guy of the story."
James sighed. "Well... he's incredibly charming like I was, and when you combine that with his demonmancer skills... well he's going to be very, very popular." James said reasonably. "But Carey, it's only because you're the most mature of the group. When they all realize what you've tried to do for them, they're all going to appreciate it immensely."
"Of course I'm mature, I have the most experience from watching you guys, I know this is no tea party which is why I accepted the training with Dante in the first place," Carey explained. "Thing is, as long as they realize it, I'll just keep being the unnamed savior and Kyle will still be two steps ahead when it comes to being liked, and now that he's getting stronger it'll be even worst." Carey sighed. "And what's worst, honestly, I don't want to end up like my brother, always trying to get people's attention and not succeeding."
"And now I feel guilty." James told Carey. "Because you know the reason that Ellery never got any attention was because of me..." James trailed off, knowing that Carey didn't want to hear this. "Look, Carey... at the end of the day... all that really matters is if you can look at yourself in the mirror and say 'I did my best to do what was right' and if you can do that... everything will turn out just fine." James promised. "And you're not exactly unpopular yourself you know." James added.
