OOC: Once we're finished with the introductions, I can begin. By my count there's only... like one person missing, so it shouldn't take too long. Unless you'd like me to move things along.
Andrei nodded in approval as the students introduced themselves. At least they weren't shy, he reasoned as he prepared the write on the board. "Good, good. Now that we know each other a little, shall we begin?"
"Now, today I think we should start simple - so first, a referesher on basic biology. Let's start with plants. As you know from school, plants produce chlorophyll to harness the energy from sunlight, which it uses to photosynthesise the chemicals it needs to live. But on a cellular level things are more complicated than that. For a start, there are the cells on a leaf that secrete wax, preventing water being absorbed into cells that are not supposed to absorb water - like the top side of a leaf, where the cells contain chloroplasts..."
Not to bore everyone with the details, he talked about the detailed functions and anatomy of plants and their cells for a bit. Soon, he singled out a person at random from amongst the students to answer a questi - why was that girl smiling? "Time to see if you have been listening. Khomtii, you look like you were paying attention, so here's a question for you: Which part of a cell produces chlorophyll and in which part of the plant can you find them?"
"Good. If it keeps up like this I don't see anyone failing in Science." Writing out some of the things he had mentioned on the board, he looked back over the class and continued on plant anatomy, this time focusing on the roots and the stem of the plants, talking about xylem and phylem vessels. Although he didn't ask any more questions on the subject, he still kept an eye on the attention levels in the class.
At the end of class he handed out sheets showing several plant cells, a plant and several sentences about plants. "Alright, you've listened well so this first homework should be fairly simple. Just fill in the labels on the diagrams and the gaps in the sentences. We can get started on the interesting stuff next lesson, so I'd like to see these sheet finished for then."
After the sheets have been distirbuted, he headed back to the front of the class. "That concludes the lesson for today. I have to hurry, but if you have any questions you know where to find me." With a final wave of farewell, he strode out of the room and made tracks for the clinic.
OOC: Dinner's just finishing, so I finished up this lesson now. Be back in an hour.
Michelle was having some trouble getting her appeal ready. She kept over thinking what to do for it. "I could always do this.... Or, maybe something else..."
