BDSP Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl General Discussion

New trailer!!! I wasn't expecting this, considering the game is already out! Any idea why it is releasing so late?
Maybe they wanted to give people time to beat the game before revealing the entire postgame? Idk

For a second i thought it was going to be DLC and i would get genuinely upset. Specially if it was Platinum stuff. Because if this remake would get anything from Platinum, it should have been in the base game and not DLC.

I know it would send the wrong message to TPC/Game Freak, but I'd still rather have Platinum content via paid DLC than not at all.

Platinum doesn't even add that much to warrant paid DLC?
Does it matter if it warrants or not? They would still nickle and dime it because that's how it is these days.

I mean, you can argue that it does given that Gamefreak still asked 40 bucks for Platinum when a lot of it is still the same as Diamond and Pearl. So why wouldn't it now?

40 bucks?! That's CHEAP for a Pokemon Game!
That's 20 bucks cheaper than BDSP (but in all honesty, it makes sense because we got Platinum exclusives in the Underground)!
AND PICHU IS CATCHABLE IN IT :O!!! Chupi says that is much cheaper than 6 out of the 7 Pokemon games that we have (Black, X, OR, Sun, LG Eevee, Shield, BD; Black I got from my babysitter because her boyfriend left his copy of the game at her house and she gave it to me because they broke up, I hated having to delete so many good Pokemon (but some were hacked shinies like a level 1 Shiny Reshiram) to do my own playthrough of the game).

Platinum was released in a time when DLC wasn't a thing, so your only option was to pay for an entire game. There was no other means of releasing that.

But what did Platinum even actually add? New forms for pokemon (which are already available in BDSP), Distortion World (which would be redundant since Giratina is already obtainable in both of its forms), and the Battle Frontier (which probably won't be added for the same reason that we didn't get it in ORAS anyway). Aside from the Battle Frontier, that's really very little added in. Honestly, it's less or roughly equivalent to what New Pokemon Snap added in for free.

Lol all you just did was make an argument as to why even add anything from Platinum at all.

Distortion World is an actual dungeon instead of just the arena you fight Giratina in. More variety in pokemon to catch. Volkner and Candice have teams that make actual sense for type specialists. Fantina being fought third instead of fifth, fixing a pacing issue and removing a nonsensical reason to not fight her as the third Gym Leader. And i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people were willing to dish 5, 10 bucks just for the Battle Frontier.

Yeah? Kind of my point- if they bothered to add any Platinum DLC, it would be so minimal that it wouldn't be worth charging for it.
DLC might have not been a thing back then, but it is now. So why wouldn't they charge now when charging for Platinum still made 7 million people buy it? That is my point.

Because the times are different now. DLC is a thing. You don't have to buy an entire game over again for a little added content.

Platinum cost the same amount as Diamond and Pearl, they didn't charge extra for the little bit that was changed or added. If you didn't buy Diamond or Pearl, you weren't suddenly paying extra for Platinum. It was the equivalent of free DLC if you hadn't bought the originals.

In terms of nickle and diming players, it isn't. In fact it has gotten worse, very few games handing out some free DLC nonwhistanding (and even then, the free DLC is very small and far less than what Platinum offered).

True, and that's usually my defense when people like to bring up that DLC is better than third versions on all cases, when in this particular one it isn't. Still doesn't change the most likely fact that probably the majority of Platinum buyers bought Diamond and Pearl.

My main issue with a hypothetical Platinum DLC, even if free, is that they went through the trouble of making remakes with the worst version of Gen 4 as its foundation when Platinum is right there. ORAS did the same thing by disregarding Emerald and it was just as obnoxious there. So to now sell me Platinum DLC when Platinum could have been just the base is insulting to me. Sure, being free might soften the blow, but it would still annoy me.

Them selling Platinum DLC is a huge hypothetical, though. Like I pointed out, it's not likely because most of it is already there and the one thing that's missing has already been labeled "not worth adding" in the past.

And the nickle and diming might be true of games in general, but for Pokemon specifically, I'm pretty sure the only example of paid DLC we have is what we got for Sword and Shield, and that was actually whole added areas, story, characters, new pokemon, wild pokemon that weren't available in the main game... substantial new content. Otherwise, I think the only other DLC we've gotten was for New Pokemon Snap, and that added two courses and a new route for free.

So in all, Pokemon's been doing us good on the DLC front.
