Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl General Discussion

I would argue them not being monotype users makes them more unpredictable, and harder, but you can have your opinion.
Then maybe don't call them type specialists when the Ice type one has a random fighting type and the electric has a random water type (and weak one top of it). Plus, it didn't really make them any harder, specially not in this remake where you get overleveled extremely easily anyway and have forced affection bonuses that further trivializes the difficulty.

You know why Gamfreak changed it in Platinum? Because they knew type specialists having random pokemon not of their type was dumb. And they don't even fit thematically.
Yes but what we got in BDSP is still the Distortion World
We didn't, we got a background instead of the actual dungeon. Specially one of the coolest dungeons in the series with the whole gravity schtick. This is not the same thing as getting the actual Distortion World.

And last, i didn't expected actual Platinum DLC, but the trailer gave me the impression for like a second.

You can complain all you want, and hate everything about BDSP, but my point still stands on both the Gym Leaders and the Distortion World. Feel free to agree or disagree.

Oh and by the way, my original post wasn't directed at you. It was just a general observation.

Sounds like you're unintentionally making a consensus about what people mean and enjoy. I for example, am part of "people", and I disagree with you. I am perfectly happy with the Distortion World we got in BDSP. It's a perfect homage to the original, imo.
sorry, i guess i see where you're coming from.
Are you implying that the clock-based puzzle from Platinum wasn't a joke as well? It was very very simple imo. And like I said, I pefer the original DP/BDSP layout with the trees.
the reason i prefer the platinum version is because it doesn't even pretend to be a puzzle. i prefer some pretty visuals over a joke of a puzzle.
I DO agree with you about Fantina's gym layout tho, the Platinum design was better.
glad we agree on something

Me at Lake Acuity attempting to catch Uxie: "Uxie. Get. In. The. Ball."
It has broken out of all my remaining Dusk Balls (Azelf got in the second one, so why can't Uxie), ALL of my Timer Balls (at maximum efficiency, wtf), and I am still trying to catch this thing (I got it to red HP with my Absol's Quick Attack), this thing is super annoying, has anyone else experienced difficulties catching Uxie?

legendaries are always a pain to catch. you should try to make sure that your pokemon is a higher level than it though, otherwise it's pretty much impossible to catch

They knew moves of the correct type. And having type diversity makes them less predictable. They didn't change because it was "dumb", because it never was.

i have no problem with gym leaders who aren't type specialists. Blue is among my favorite gym leaders. but don't frame someone as a type specialist and then have them use random mons unrelated to their type.

“Type diversity” is one thing. A gym leader that’s type diverse would be entertaining. But these trainers weren’t meant to be them. They’re very much marketed as type specialists forced to use Pokémon outside their specialities because the originals had such an abysmal type distribution.

A gym leader not specialising in any particular type isn’t “dumb”.

But an Elite Four Member claiming to be a fire type specialist, with a fire motif, named keeping in view flames not having fire types because the game doesn’t have enough of them doesn’t really scream that “This trainer was intended to not specialise in a single type.”

I suppose it could be put that they made a good use of Sinnoh's limited Pokédex by having unexpected Pokémon on them.

Well, now you just changed the entire argument.
What other option did they even have? I guess they could pull a Lance by having 2x of the same Pokémon on the team. But the Flint situation still remains an odd oversight to me.

The fact that he gets a Fire type team in Platinum just affirms the fact that it was an oversight. Don’t really have anything much to say here.

to be fair, if we're hating on the gen 4 games for this, we should also criricize gen 1's Agatha and Lance for this. Agatha uses more poison types than ghost types, and lance has several mons that, although looking like dragons, aren't actually dragon type.

I checked the script and Agatha isn't actually referred to as a Ghost specialist in gen 1 (Bruno isn't given a specific type in dialogue either), so I think she's in the clear.
Lance not so much.

I'm not "hating" on the games, just stating a fact. I didn’t bring up Gen 1 because the thread is about Gen 4 remakes. Doesn’t mean that Gen 1 didn’t have an abysmal Pokémon distribution too.
It’s not "hating" to point out if something is intentional on the developer's part or a product of disproportionate type selection.

Well, thank Arkoos that my Absol was level 55 (I'm doing this to get the national dex, but I skipped the one trainer who had a Misdreavus which I need because I'm playing BD (and Misdreavus is a SP exclusive so that sucks) and now I can't get the national dex because I can't see a frickin Misdreavus)
So... after pressing B when my Finneon was trying to evolve (because I need to have the national dex (which requires a Lumineon) to get the super rod), I am close to getting the national dex, but my smol brain made that near impossible by skipping the one trainer in the game with a Pokemon I can't find in the wild.

according to Serebii, there's a trainer in the lost tower who has a misdreavus (at least in the original DP). just go back there and battle everyone.

I just threw random balls at those three because they just kept breaking out when using the same type of ball over and over. I ended up with Mesprit in a Dusk Ball, Azelf in an Ultra Ball and Uxie in a Premier Ball. False Swipe and Paralysis helped out a lot. For Mesprit I caught a Murkrow from the Grand Underground and used a Heart Scale to have it relearn Mean Look because I didn't want to use my Master Ball. Using that move makes it impossible for Mesprit to escape. There's probably easier ways to get it done though.

Funnily enough, I also used Absol to catch Uxie but I taught it the TM for False Swipe, which you can buy at Veilstone Department Store. I also paralysed it with Luxray's Thunder Wave. Sleep technically works better than paralysis for catching Pokemon, but I find paralysis more convenient because you don't have to keep re-applying it. I always find that False Swipe + paralysis works very well for catching legendaries.

Well, I caught it in an Ultra Ball. Finally.
